教学设计
I.Teaching Objectives:
Knowledge and Skills:
Students will be able to describe the characteristics and behaviors of different animals, and present their understanding of the relationship between humans and animals through creative presentations.
Process and Methods:
Through group work, students will gather information, create animal profiles, and present their ideas in a clear and engaging manner.
Emotions, Attitudes, and Values:
Students will develop empathy towards animals and a sense of responsibility for animal protection, as well as a deeper understanding of the importance of human-animal relationships.
II.Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in (5 minutes)
Activity: Display pictures or videos of various animals, asking students to name the animals and share any interesting facts they know about them.
Purpose: To activate students' prior knowledge and interest in animals, setting the context for the upcoming activities.
Step 2: Group Discussion and Information Gathering (15 minutes)
Student's Activity:
Form groups of 3-4 students.
Each group selects an animal to research, focusing on its characteristics, behaviors, habitat, and relationship with humans.
Gather information from textbooks, online resources, or other materials provided.
Teacher's Action: Circulate around the classroom, offering guidance and support as needed.
Step 3: Animal Profile Creation (20 minutes)
Student's Activity:
Based on the information gathered, students create an animal profile. The profile should include:
The animal's name and scientific name (if known).
A brief description of its physical characteristics.
A summary of its behaviors and habits.
Information about its habitat and distribution.
Examples of its relationship with humans, including any benefits it provides or challenges it faces.
Students can use diagrams, illustrations, or photographs to enhance their profiles.
They should also practice using the target language (e.g., vocabulary and sentence patterns from the unit) to describe the animal.
Step 4: Presentation Preparation (10 minutes)
Student's Activity:
Groups prepare a short presentation to showcase their animal profile.
They should decide on a presenter or take turns presenting different aspects of the animal.
Practice their presentation, making sure to use clear and accurate language.
Step 5: Presentations (15 minutes)
Activity: Each group presents their animal profile to the class.
Purpose: To give students an opportunity to showcase their work, develop their presentation skills, and share their knowledge with others.
Teacher's Action: Provide positive feedback and constructive suggestions for improvement.
Step 6: Reflection (10 minutes)
Individual Reflection (5 minutes):
Students reflect on their learning experience throughout the unit, including their contributions to the group, challenges faced, and personal growth.
They should also consider how their understanding of human-animal relationships has changed as a result of this unit.
Group Sharing (5 minutes):
Students share their reflections with their group members, discussing common themes and insights.
The teacher can facilitate a whole-class discussion to highlight key takeaways and promote deeper understanding.
Step 7: Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary: The teacher summarizes the main points of the lesson, emphasizing the importance of understanding and respecting animals, as well as the skills learned through this unit.
Homework:
Students write a short reflection essay on the most significant lesson they learned from this unit, focusing on either their understanding of human-animal relationships or their personal growth in language skills.
They are also encouraged to conduct further research on an animal of their choice and prepare a more detailed animal profile for sharing in the next class.
III.Assessment:
Formative Assessment: Observe students' participation in group discussions, their creativity in animal profile creation, and their presentation skills.
Summative Assessment: Evaluate the final animal profiles and reflection essays based on accuracy, creativity, and the use of target language. Collect and review student reflections to assess their understanding of the unit's themes and objectives.
