I'm 17 and since August 2022 I have been living on trains. I enjoyed travelling with my parents and was also interested in computer programming. I taught myself to program and decided that was what I wanted to do for my job.
I had seen a TV report a few weeks earlier about someone who lived on a train. I could not get the thought out of my head. I loved the idea of having the freedom to travel anywhere in Germany every day. A few days later, I bought my first BahnCard 100, which offers unlimited travel on Germany's national train network—the junior pass cost ?2,664 back then. On 8 August, I set off and boarded the first train.
My family were very doubtful at that point. They were worried I wouldn't be able to get enough sleep at night, that I would be alone and that it could be dangerous. They were still doubtful for the first few months, when hardly anything worked out. I would be worn out when planning it all, and struggle to sleep, so I often returned home to my parents. But now I have it figured out, they' re really supportive. I have so many new experiences; life is extremely varied and every day is different.
Living on the train means I have to do without some things that I used to take for granted. I don't have privacy. I have also had to reduce my possessions so that everything I own fits into a 30-litre backpack. But the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The original plan was to do this for only a year, but I have enjoyed it so much, and I've decided to keep doing it. At the moment, there's no end in sight.
24. Why did the author get the idea of living on trains
A. He wanted to gain freedom.
B. He was inspired by a media report.
C. His job required him to travel frequently.
D. His friends encouraged him to try living on trains.
25. How did the author's parents react originally to his living on the trains
A. They were supportive. B. They were concerned.
C. They were annoyed. D. They were excited.
26. What did the author go through at first
A. Difficulty finding enough food. B. Trouble with train schedules.
C. Tiredness in making plans. D. Loneliness and homesickness.
27. Which of the following words can best describe the author
A. Adventurous and independent. B. Humorous and determined.
C. Reserved and passive. D. Lazy and aimless.
C
Just like everyone has their own unique personal space needs, we also all have our own unique comfort zones. Personal space boundaries keep others out while our comfort zones keep us in. Yet until we're able to move beyond what is comfortable for us, we won't be able to grow or develop beyond our limits. Until you get outside your comfort zone and consider other ideas, you won't really know what you "know" or even know "why" you believe what you believe.
The fear of leaving our comfort zones is a natural human emotion that often keeps us from exploring new territories, trying new experiences, and accepting unfamiliar situations. It is a powerful force that can preclude us from reaching our full potential and realizing our dreams.
Not only does stretching past your comfort zone allow you to develop into an adult, but it also enhances your happiness in life. The happier you are with your life, the greater the positive change will be. Choosing how to stretch yourself beyond the familiar can be more satisfying, too, than being assigned a particular activity. In a study, researchers found that the most rewarding activity is one that stretches you to provide support or engage(使融入) with others.
It's true that doing something beyond your normal range of activities can lead to fear. In the study, while 41 percent of the "comfort zone breakers" expressed feelings of fear, 70 percent described their feelings of courage at breaking out of their comfort zone. In fact, facing a fear was a strong motivator for many of the participants in their choice of activities. Being able to encounter a fear and overcome it provides a boost to your sense of self and your brain responds with a boost of dopamine(多巴胺). There's less stress on your body, too. At the same time, the fear will decrease and eventually disappear.
28. What does the author encourage us to do in paragraph 1
A. Be aware of our own comfort zones. B. Show respect for others' personal space.
C. Stretch beyond our recognized limits. D. Step out of our comfort zones to grow.
29. What does the underlined word "preclude" in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Prevent. B. Differ. C. Change. D. Track.
30. What can we infer about dealing with fear
A. It is simply a response to stress. B. It is a sense of one's own value.
C. It is an ability to control emotion. D. It leads to positive outcomes.
31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A. To show challenges of stepping out the comfort zone.
B. To give suggestions on stepping out of the comfort zone.
C. To explain the necessity of stepping out of the comfort zone.
D. To present related studies on stepping out the comfort zone.
D
The UK's first large-scale seagrass nursery aims to restore(恢复)one of the world's most important and threatened habitats: seagrass meadows(草地). The project has processed 1.5 million seeds collected from Wales and England over the past two years. These seeds are grown in ponds using seawater from Carmarthen Bay, providing a vital habitat for marine(海洋的)lives like seahorses, octopuses, and cuttlefish, and serving as an important carbon(碳)sink.
Emily Yates, the nursery lead, mentioned the challenges due to the lack of a handbook for growing seagrass from seed. They found that planting seeds in a mix of good quality soil and sands works well. Two main UK species, eelgrass(Zostera marina)and dwarf eelgrass (Zostera noltii), are grown in controlled conditions within polytunnels and outdoor ponds.
The project is a joint venture by Project Seagrass and the wetland specialist Salix. They have successfully introduced the first batch of plants into the wild, contributing to the restoration of underwater meadows and increasing biodiversity. The UK has lost about 90% of its seagrass meadows, half of which has disappeared in the past three decades due to a wasting disease in the 1930s and increased human activities like pollution. Seagrass meadows are critical for marine biodiversity and act as significant carbon sinks, helping reduce climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide(CO2)from the atmosphere.
Project Seagrass argues that without replanting, natural recovery is unlikely. Replanting efforts are crucial because they help rebuild the ecosystem services provided by seagrass meadows, such as supporting fish populations, protecting coastlines, and improving water quality.
The hope is that over time, more ponds will be changed into seagrass nursery pools, helping to bring back this critical habitat. The project is not only about environmental restoration but also about raising awareness and educating the public about the importance of seagrass meadows and the urgent need to protect and restore them.
32. What challenge did Emily Yates meet
A. Insufficient funding. B. Lack of suitable climate.
C. High cost of planting the seagrass seeds. D. No related instructions for planting seagrass.
33. What do we know about seagrass meadows from paragraph 3
A. They have disappeared in the UK. B. They can create a long-term store of carbon.
C. They can prevent severe floods. D. They can increase water temperature.
34. Why is replanting seagrass necessary
A. It attracts tourists all around. B. It helps in fishing industry.
C. It benefits the ecosystem. D. It improves Project Seagrass.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. The Role of Seagrass in Coastal Ecosystems
B. Innovative Approaches to Marine Protection
C. Reviving the UK's Seagrass Meadows
D. The Environmental Impact of Seagrass Meadows

It was a warm summer evening, and the excitement in the air was evident as students gathered in the school hall for the annual welcome party. The event was a chance for everyone to showcase their talents and bond with new classmates. I had been practicing for weeks, preparing a dance routine that I hoped would impress my peers and help me make new friends.
As the evening progressed, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement building up inside me. The performances before mine were impressive, and the audience's applause(掌声)and cheers filled the hall with energy. Finally, my name was called, and it was my turn to step onto the stage.
Taking a deep breath, I walked confidently to the center of the stage. The spotlight shone brightly, and I could feel the eyes of the audience on me. The music began, and I started my dance. Everything was going smoothly until, halfway through my routine, disaster struck. My shoe lace(鞋带)had come undone, and before I knew it, my foot caught on the lace, causing me to trip and fall hard onto the stage.
Time seemed to stop moving as I lay there, and there was silence in the hall. Then, the silence was broken by laughter and the sound of cameras clicking. Some students were even pointing and laughing. My face turned red with embarrassment, and I wished the ground would swallow(吞下)me up right then and there.
Just as I was about to get up, still terrified, my teacher, Mrs. Johnson, appeared on stage. She walked over to me, her expression showing concern and determination. Gently helping me to my feet, she turned to the audience and addressed them with a firm voice.
"Everyone makes mistakes," she said, her voice ringing through the hall. "It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of the audience, and we should support each other, not make fun of each other. I expect better from all of you. We are a community, and we must lift each other up, especially in moments like these." The hall suddenly fell silent.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With a smile, Mrs. Johnson gave me a gentle push to continue my performance. After my performance, I walked off the stage.

M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday—Spanish; Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday—French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.

W: Hi, Raman. This is Christine. I'm afraid I won't be able to go to work today. My son isn't feeling well. He has a bad cough and he's home from school. I've got to take him to the doctor. But do you remember the training next week You know, the one about the new computer system I've explained everything to the trainer, so there's no need for you to call him. I've also booked the meeting room on the third floor. But there are a few other things. I need you to hand out some notebooks and pens for people attending the meeting to take notes. And you'll need to order lunch for ten people. Talk to Alison, my secretary. She knows of some good restaurants where we have ordered lunch before. She has the telephone numbers of the restaurants. You can also ask her to help you with it. You can also order lunch from a nearby coffee shop if you want. I'm really sorry to leave all these things to you on a phone message. If you have any problems, please feel free to call me at your convenience. Thanks a lot. Bye for now.

第二节:
参考范文:
With a smile, Mrs. Johnson gave me a gentle push to continue my performance. Though my legs were shaking and my heart was pounding, I took another deep breath, steadied myself, and restarted the music. The encouraging smiles and nods from the audience gave me the strength I needed. As I moved across the stage, I poured my heart into the dance, with each step and every movement becoming more confident. The audience began to clap along, and their energy inspired me. By the time the final note played, I felt a wave of relief and accomplishment wash over me.
After my performance, I walked off the stage. My classmates surrounded me, their faces filled with concern. "Are you okay " "That was so brave of you!" "I'm sorry for laughing earlier." The warmth and support I felt in that moment were overwhelming. It was as if the embarrassing stumble had turned into a bonding experience for all of us. I realized then that this was more than just a welcome party; it was the start of new friendships and a reminder of the power of support. Mrs. Johnson's words transformed an embarrassing moment into a lesson in kindness.
