Lesson 3 Thinking Skills and Reading Strategies
I. Material analysis
Thinking Skills内容解读：本部分学习借助对比和比较的思维技能，谈论事物的相似点与不同点，让思维可视化。学生通过看图和阅读文本，学习如何通过对比和比较发现蝙蝠和鸟的异同，然后通过阅读文本，尝试运用对比和比较的技能对比大熊猫和棕熊的异同，并完成对比图表；最后结合所学，选取两种动物进行对比，发现异同，并和同桌分享。本部分共3个活动。
Reading Strategies内容解读：本部分学习看图猜词义的策略，学生先通过看图回答问题，为后续猜词做铺垫；之后阅读文本，通过图片猜测画线词的意思；最后运用所学习的策略，观察图片，阅读文本，猜测画线词的意思。

1. 运用看图猜词的阅读策略，理解文本中的生词。
2. 运用比较和对比的思维技能，介绍两种事物的异同点。
III. Teaching procedures
课时教学内容概述
本课时内容为思维技能和阅读策略的学习。思维技能的内容为比较和对比。首先通过定义帮助学生了解“比较”和“对比”的区别。之后共有3个活动。在Activity 1中，学生阅读文本和思维导图了解蝙蝠和鸟的相同点和不同点，初识比较和对比的思维技能，此为学习理解性活动。在Activity 2中，学生阅读短文内容完成比较和对比的思维导图，巩固和内化Activity 1中所学内容，此为应用实践类活动。Activity 3为学生两两活动，学生根据自己所知的两种动物利用思维导图进行比较，并和同伴分享，此为迁移创新类活动。 阅读策略为通过图片猜词，帮助学生学会利用图片猜测文本中的生词。Activity 1需要学生通过理解图片回答问题，并预测文本大意。Activity 2需要学生阅读语篇，通过Activity 1的图片猜测画线单词的意思。在Activity 3中，学生阅读语篇，通过图片猜测文中画线单词的含义，巩固本部分所学策略。

Step 1 Lead-in 1. Show students the learning objectives of this class. 2. Free talk. Talk about the pictures about a bat and a bird. ·What are they ·What do you know about them (color, size, food, home…) ·What do they have in common 教师观察学生回答问题的表现，根据其说出的具体信息，了解其对动物特征的表达的掌握情况以及其提取图片信息的能力水平。
设计意图：通过free talk引导学生观察图片，学会通过图片获取关键信息，同时激活描述表达蝙蝠和小鸟特征的词，为接下来的学习做好铺垫。
Step 2 Reading & Learning 1. Read the sentence above Activity 1 and discuss what the thinking skill-- comparing and contrasting is. 2. Look at the picture and read the text. Learn how to compare and contrast. 3. Enhance and refine the chart in Activity 1 using the result of free talk. 教师观察学生回答问题的表现，根据其说出的具体信息了解其对比较和对比这一思维技能的理解及掌握情况。
设计意图：引导学生在阅读文本和观察对比类图表后，通过讨论，理解比较和对比的思维技能。并依据此技能结合free talk的结果，梳理相关信息，补充和优化关于蝙蝠和小鸟的对比类图表。为进一步在真实情境中运用所学做好铺垫。
Step 3 Drawing & Sharing 1. Read the text in Activity 2 and complete the comparison and contrast chart. Then check the answers. 2. Compare and contrast two animals the students know. Draw a comparison and contrast chart. 3. Work in pairs. Share the charts they draw with the partner. 4. Compare and contrast more things, like two plants, two land forms, two cities and so on. 教师观察学生对比类图表的完成情况，评价其对比较和对比这一思维技能的运用。 教师观察学生绘制图表的表现，根据需要给出必要指导和反馈。
设计意图：引导学生利用比较和对比的思维技能，补全关于熊猫和棕熊的对比类图表，再进一步绘制自己熟悉的两种动物的对比类图表，最后将这一思维技能迁移到绘制人与自然主题下的两个事物的对比类图表。通过层层递进的实践性任务，帮助学生掌握比较和对比的思维技能

Read the text in Activity 2 and guess the meanings of the underlined words by using the pictures in Activity 1. Then check the answers. 3. Look at the pictures and read the text in Activity 3. Guess the meanings of the underlined words. Then check the answers. 4. Read the text in Activity 3 again and complete the following chart. 设计意图： 帮助学生掌握看图猜词策略，学习如何利用图片猜测语篇中生词的意思，培养阅读技能，加强学生的阅读理解能力。
Step 5 Summary & Homework 1. Summarize the content students learned in this class. 2. Show the students the homework for the class. 帮助并引导学生总结本节课所学内容，查漏补缺，发现问题，及时给予帮助。
设计意图： 运用所学知识，进行总结，内化语言。
