On the outside,12-year-old Luna seems like your average kid. It’s not until you get to know her that you learn that Luna is anything but average.
Born with a heart defect(缺陷) called dextrocardia,Luna has had three open-heart operations and continues to pursue her interests in art and fashion. But when Luna was approached by athletic shoe company Saucony to design a shoe for sale across the country,it came as quite a surprise.
“This is so incredible.I got to use my art and creativity for something new that I’d never thought I’d be able to design,” Luna said. She is one of six patients from Boston Children’s Hospital(BCH) who have partnered with Saucony to design their own shoes to launch the Shoes with Soul campaign.
“Rather than just a donation,we wanted to create an experience and a moment that would raise not only money, but also awareness to highlight all the amazing work that’s being done at BCH,” says Chris,Saucony’s vice president.“Specifically,we wanted to give some of the BCH kids an opportunity to share their stories and their talents with the world.”
Luna’s design is fashion.“On the tongue, they digitalized one of my drawings, and then on bottom it’s a really bright pink color, and on the inside, the sole of the shoe is actually another drawing I did of a sunset,”she said.“Thinking about kids everywhere around the world wearing my shoes is amazing. It blows my mind.”
The income from the shoe sales will benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital Cardiac Fitness Program, which encourages kids to “find your possible” through personalized exercise programs tailored for each individual patient’s heart condition.
“It feels really good to help people and it’s really something I can relate to,” says Luna.“The advice I would give a kid or someone like me is never to give up.There are a lot of kids out there with your condition and you’re not alone.”

A robot may be defined as a machine that can be programmed to perform acts automatically. With the increase in high technology, robots are taking over boring or inconvenient work in many areas of life.
One area where robots are making an appearance is farming. There is a robotic revolution going on in the milking industry, and cows,as well as farmers are experiencing the benefits. The advantage for the cows is that they can choose when and how many times a day they want to be milked. On the other hand, farmers no longer have to get up at 4 a.m.every day to go to the milking sheds and this makes a huge difference to their way of life.
In traditional farming, cows are milked twice a day,in the morning and the evening, mainly because this is the most convenient way for farmers to get two milking sessions completed in one day. However, this is not necessarily the best way for each individual cow.Because the robots are programmed to milk the cows whenever they arrive, the cows can be milked once, twice or even four times a day.It is an entirely voluntary system for the cows. They decide.Farmers report that midnight is a particularly busy time at the milking shed. The interesting thing is that the cows like the system once they get used to it.Farmers report that milk production increases, the cows live longer and they seem far more relaxed.
The computerized robotic system is entirely automatic. As the cows enter the facility, they are weighed, milked and productivity and health checks are carried out.The facility cleans itself at regular intervals(间隔) and if there is a problem, the robot sends the farmer a message.
Equipping a farm with robots is not cheap. However, farmers who have installed the robotic milking sheds, say they would never go back to the old system. The commonly reported sight of cows queuing patiently in front of their favourite robot must mean the cows like it too.
28.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A.To introduce a kind of robot.
B.To tell the importance of robots.
C.To tell the readers what is a robot.
D.To provide the definition of robotic system.
29.What benefit may robots bring to the cows according to the text
A.They can be freer to be milked.
B.They can be milked twice a day.
C.They can get up at 4 a.m.to be milked.
D.They can choose the day to be milked.
30.Which of the following would the author probably agree
A.Morning and evening are the two most convenient milking sessions for cows.
B.The robotic system is voluntary for cows to be milked of their own free will.
C.The robotic system is entirely automatic except for health checks.
D.The robotic system is so expensive that farmers will never install one.
31.What would be the best title for the text
A.A Robotic Revolution in Milking
B.Cows’ Favourite Helper
C.Hands Free for the Farmers
D.An Expensive Milking Shed

Some big scientific discoveries aren’t actually discovered but borrowed. That’s what happened when scientists discovered proteins from an unlikely lender: green algae(绿藻),whose cells are decorated with proteins that can sense light.
The light-sensing protein promised the power to control neurons(神经元) by providing a way to turn them on and off.Such ability, first noticed in 2002,quickly caught the attention of brain scientists: Nerve cells which were genetically engineered to produce such proteins become light-controlled.A flash of light could cause a quiet neuron to send signals or force an active neuron to fall silent.“This is the light sensor that we needed,” says Zhuo-Hua Pan,a scientist searching for a way to control vision cells in mice’s eyes. The method is now called optogenetics(光遗传学).
In Pan’s lab,light-responsive proteins restored vision in mice with damaged eyesight,a finding that has now led to a medical test on people.Optogenetics’ promise wasn’t clear in early days,as scientists were first learning how to use these proteins in neurons.“At that time,no one expected that this optogenetic work would have such a huge impact,” Pan says.
The algae’s light sensors have been adopted for use in countless brain research fields.Talia, another scientist, uses optogenetics to study connections between cells in the mouse brain. The method allows her to comb the relationships between cells that produce and respond to dopamine(多巴胺),which might help uncover details about motivation and learning.
So far, optogenetics research has taken place mostly in mice. But findings into more complex brains like human brain may soon be confirmed.“We are definitely on the tip of uncovering some fascinating principles of the human brain, such as how the brain transforms signals from the eyes into perceptions,” says Yasmine of Columbia University.
No matter what happens next in this swiftly moving field, one thing is certain: Brain scientists will be forever in the algae’s debt.
32.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A.The origin of neurons.
B.The discovery of green algae.
C.The varieties of neurons.
D.The inspiration from green algae.
33.What can we learn from Pan’s research
A.Damaged eyesight is likely to be restored.
B.The findings are used to cure brain diseases.
C.Relationships between cells have been found.
D.The light-sensing protein is the key to the brain.
34.What’s Yasmine’s attitude towards the future of her research
A.Cautious. B.Confident.
C.Critical. D.Unclear.
35.Which section is this text most probably taken from
A.Health. B.Botany.
C.Figure. D.Invention.

A food allergy(过敏) is a medical condition that occurs when the body’s protection system perceives certain foods as a threat and responds to them with an allergic reaction.
Symptoms(症状) of a food allergy
36 However,a severe reaction can take up to a few hours following exposure.Symptoms can range from mild to severe. And they may differ each time a specific allergen appears.Symptoms can include: a skin rash or hives, swelling of the face or lips,or feeling light-headed or dizzy. 37 That can send the body into shock or make it difficult to breathe.
Judging a food allergy
Doctors consider a number of factors when investigating a food allergy. Those include both a patient’s symptoms and family history of allergies.A physical examination may be performed to rule out any other conditions. 38
Treating a food allergy
It may not be possible for a patient to completely avoid foods that induce(导致) an allergic reaction. For minor reactions, you can take some medicine. For severe reactions, however, turn to doctors for help.
39
The only sure way to prevent an allergic reaction to food is to carefully avoid the allergens. This can be a difficult process. That requires patients to carefully study food labels to ensure the food is safe for them. 40 So it’s necessary to inform family or friends of the food that can cause a food allergy.
A.Avoiding harm from allergy.
B.Preventing an allergic reaction.
C.Not everyone knows what a food allergy is.
D.But many people don’t know the allergens.
E.Other tests can include blood test or oral food challenge.
F.An allergic reaction to food usually occurs within minutes.

On Friday evening,Emmett and I went to a movie as scheduled. After purchasing the tickets and drinks,we entered the cinema with delight beforehand, waiting for the beginning of the movie.
When I got up in the middle of the movie,Emmett whispered,“Carter, where are you going?” “I forgot to call my mom to tell her what time to pick us up,” I whispered back, leaving my jacket on the seat.
I squeezed past the people in my row, trying not to step on any feet while still watching the screen.I didn’t want to miss a thing.Balfour, the good guy in the movie, was trapped in an underground cave.
When I came back,Balfour’s flashlight almost went out.An enormous snake was moving toward him, twisting its body.Balfour struggled to loosen the chains around his hands and feet to reach his magic cape. With the cape around him,he could completely disappear.
I crawled back across eight people(I counted on the way out),never taking my eyes off the screen.I sat down in my seat slowly, then picked up my drink, and swallowed it quickly. But suddenly my brain said,“That’s not coke. That’s lemonade.” I looked down at the cup, just as the girl next to me shouted,“He drank my lemonade!”
“Shhhh!” the people around us said, making quiet complaints.
“Where’s Emmett?” I asked,as if the girl had hidden him under her seat.
“Carter, down here,” Emmett answered in a low voice. He was two rows ahead of me.I was in the wrong row! Everyone was turning around to look at me.
“Here,” I said, handing the girl her drink.
“Eww,” she said.“You have had a drink of it,so you owe me a lemonade.”
“Shhhh!” everyone said again.
“OK,OK,” I said, starting my crawl across eight sets of feet again.Everybody was complaining as I inched out.
“Don’t come back,” the boy on the end said.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
But the problem was that I had to come back to bring this girl a new lemonade.
I thought about crawling out of this row and back into Emmett’s row,but I couldn’t.

W:That’s the best part.Like most museums in Beijing, admission is free!

M:Did you watch the NBA game last night
W:No,I didn’t see it.In fact,I almost never watch NBA games.
M:What You’ve got to be kidding! Basketball is the best thing on TV.
W:All it is a bunch of men in shorts running around with a ball. What’s so great about that
M:What’s so great about it Why,it’s the greatest sport ever, that’s what! To play basketball professionally requires a lot of athletic ability, physical determination, and speed. It’s a very fast game, and it’s very exciting to watch.
W:Well,I think it’s silly. All the players do is bounce the ball, throw the ball, run around trying to take the ball from each other...I just don’t understand it.I’d much rather watch a movie,a talk show,or even a game show than a basketball game!
M:Well,I can see that we are never going to agree on this.Let’s change the subject. So,what do you want to do this weekend
Text 9
M:Madam,do you know how fast you were going just now
W:Uh,well,no,I didn’t think I was going that fast...
M:This is a 25 mph zone,Madam. You see that school over there You were going 35 mph.
W:But today is Sunday, sir. There is no school today.
M:That doesn’t matter,Madam. There are signs that say what the speed limit is.Besides, children often come to school on weekends to play sports. You see all those kids over there What if you hit one of them by accident
W:I’m sorry, officer,I won’t do it again.Could you please let me off with a warning
M:I’m afraid I can’t do that,Madam. In school zones,I’m required to give tickets to all drivers who break the rules. It’s the law in this county.
W:Oh,dear! What is this going to cost me
M:I don’t know,Madam.Usually, these things can be taken care of for less than$100.Now please sign here at the bottom.
W:OK...is that all
M:One more thing,if you go to traffic school, your insurance won’t go up.Have you been to traffic school before,Madam
W:No,I haven’t.
M:There are many cheap options online. It’s definitely better than paying more for insurance.
W:OK,thank you.
M:My pleasure.

And now for today’s health news.A new study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania suggests that eating chocolate every day might actually be good for you.Researchers gave people different amounts of chocolate, from none at all to several servings, every day for six weeks and measured their blood pressure, body fat,and emotional condition. What they found may surprise you.It turns out that eating a small amount of chocolate every day is better than eating none at all! People who ate a small amount of chocolate regularly had lower blood pressure and reported feeling happier than people who didn’t eat any chocolate.Eating a lot of chocolate every day resulted in increased weight gain and higher blood pressure, but it actually had a positive impact on mood. The scientists were quick to point out that the chocolate under investigation was dark chocolate, which has less fat, less sugar, and fewer calories than milk chocolate. They also said that adding chocolate to one’s diet should be combined with a balanced diet and plenty of exercise.Although the researchers said that there is still a lot of work to be done in this field, the initial findings are no doubt great news for all you chocolate lovers out there!

To begin with,as Chinese youth of the new era,we are supposed to have specific dreams. Not only can they drive us study hard, but also they can help us live a better life with a good command of knowledge. Moreover,it is a strong sense of responsibility that we should have.If we possess responsibility,we may advance bravely when we encounter difficulties in the future. Finally,we have to train ourselves to be more confident, which is the key to success.
Thank you very much for your attention.

But the problem was that I had to come back to bring this girl a new lemonade.I bought a lemonade, took a deep breath, and went back. This time,I bent low, looking at every person on the end of each row. When I saw the same boy,I moved through fast to get back to that girl.Unfortunately,I stepped on a boy’s feet and banged my knee. After apologizing to him,I quickly fell into the seat next to the girl and handed her the lemonade.Everyone around us all turned to stare at me again with some complaints.
I thought about crawling out of this row and back into Emmett’s row,but I couldn’t.Maybe I would just stay there until the movie ended.Thanking me for the lemonade, the girl talked about the plots I missed.I whispered back,“Thanks.” When the lights of the cinema came on,I grabbed my jacket on the seat and hurried out.Emmett caught up with me,“Do you know that girl?” “No,” I answered.“Then why do you have her jacket?” I looked down and found a bright pink jacket.“Here I go again,” I said with embarrassment, spotting the girl in the crowd.
