When I was in nursing school,I had to focus more on my studies than other aspects of life, and learn so much in a short amount of time. However, the clinical experience of nursing school allowed me to have the opportunity to put what I learned in my classes and readings into action.
One of my favorite experiences during my clinical training was when I had a patient who was first starting chemotherapy(化疗).My nursing instructor Marie told me that patients often experience an anaphylactic(过敏性的) reaction to the medicine when they first start chemotherapy,so it is important to give the medicine at a slower rate.Marie said that if we had a patient who reacted to the medicine,we should stop running the chemotherapy, check the patient’s blood pressure, and then give the appropriate medicine from the emergency kit.
When I checked my patient a couple of minutes after starting his chemotherapy,I asked him questions related to an anaphylactic reaction.I also noticed his face was getting a little red and he looked short of breath. He mentioned having lower back pain,so I immediately stopped the chemotherapy, started taking his blood pressure, and reported it to Marie. His blood pressure was within his normal limits,so we gave him Benadryl via his IV.The Benadryl helped the patient, and we had the Benadryl running when we started his chemotherapy again, but at a slower rate. This time the patient did not have an anaphylactic reaction, and tolerated his chemotherapy well.
This experience taught me how important it is to assess your patient and to teach your patient beforehand about the reaction the patient could have due to the medicine.Marie and I taught our patient about the reactions he could have due to the chemotherapy; due to our teaching, our patient recognized his symptoms and was able to know that what he was experiencing was an expected reaction.During the clinical training,I had many experiences where I had to think on my feet and conduct nursing care quickly. These experiences taught me a lot about how to be a nurse and emphasized the importance of conducting proper patient care.

In this period of anxiety about the size of our waists and what we consume, simple dietary rules are appealing.“Eat like our ancestors” is a particularly catchy slogan(口号) to live by.
But who are these ancestors we are supposed to follow Are they our great-great-grandparents,cooking healthy things Or are they hairy animals we imagine “cavemen” to be The popular ancient diet blames modern health problems on the birth of agriculture, claiming that we should stick to eating meat, nuts and berries.
This kind of stone age trend is based on the false assumption that Palaeolithic(旧石器时代的) peoples all ate the same food, regardless of their location.Nevertheless,England’s 9,000-year-old Cheddar Man would not have eaten the same foods as his contemporaries on the Kenyan plain. The amount of meat peoples ate,and how much was obtained by hunting, are also up for debate.
Moreover, the stone age trend is focused on what’s perceived to be good for our bodies, without any concern for the rest of nature, including other humans whose livelihoods are threatened by Western overconsumption. Were I to eat like my Punjabi farming great-grandparents,my diet would be based on the wheat and milk products that people in the Punjab have relied on for probably at least the last two thousand years. But delicious and “original” as it might be for me to follow its lead, the morals of industrially farmed milk products in the 21st century make the situation more confusing and complicated.
Now,probably more than ever before, what we eat connects us to the fate of other beings, human and non-human,and to the fate of our planet.A dogmatic(武断的) approach to this would be a mistake.Better to preserve what’s worth keeping and remain clear-eyed about our cooking past, much of which is unknowable, immoral and impossible to follow in any case.
28.What does the text concern
A.An ancient study.
B.An immoral case.
C.A balanced diet.
D.A popular belief.

D.To introduce a theory.
30.What does the author focus on in paragraph 4
A.The eating behavior of our great-grandparents.
B.The connection between food choice and nature.
C.The relationship among eating, hunting and farming.
D.The impact of food overconsumption on the environment.
31.What is a suitable title for the text
A.Punjabi Diet:Popular Again
B.Should We Eat Like Our Ancestors
C.Is the Fate of the Planet in Our Hands
D.Our Cooking Past:a Complicated History

Few people can refuse a delicious ice cream, especially on a hot day.The only thing that stops the fun is that the treat is hard to enjoy slowly, ending up with a sticky, melted mess. Now,researchers from Colombia’s Pontifical Bolivarian University may have found an unlikely thing to help solve this age-old problem—a kind of fibre from banana plant waste.
Bananas,as you probably know, grow in groups on a tree-like plant. Each group is connected to a central rachis(叶轴),which is thrown once the fruit has been gathered. The team, which was led by Dr.Robin Zuluaga Gallego, began by abstracting/drawing out cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) from the powdered rachis. The tasteless fibre, thousands of times smaller than the width of a human hair, was then added to 100 grams of ice cream mix.
With the right amount of CNFs mixed in,the dessert lasted longer in its frozen state than the traditional ice cream, extending the amount of time that the treat can be enjoyed. What was even more exciting was that the fibre increased the stickiness of the low-fat ice cream to levels higher than the full-fat one.Since this is what determines the frozen treat’s creaminess and taste,CNFs could help create the healthier ice cream without influencing the taste of it.
The researchers, who presented their findings at the American Chemical Society(ACS) meeting in New Orleans in March,2018,next plan to study how different types of fat, such as coconut oil, influence the behaviour of CNFs in other frozen treats.
The Colombian researchers are not the only ones working on creating a slower-melting ice cream. In 2015,scientists at the University of Dundee in Scotland found that a natural protein called BsIA was very effective in keeping the treat frozen for longer periods of time. With both teams fighting to be the first to get to the market, the future of everyone’s favorite dessert certainly looks bright.
32.What prevents people enjoying an ice cream slowly
A.A kind of fibre from bananas.
B.The ice cream’s quick melting.
C.The ice cream’s stickiness.
D.The fat in the ice cream.
33.Why were CNFs added to ice cream mix
A.To improve its taste.
B.To increase its stickiness.
C.To reduce its fat content.
D.To make it melt more slowly.
34.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.The ice cream. B.The fibre.
C.The fat. D.The stickiness.
35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.BsIA is popular in the market.
B.CNFs are more useful and expensive than BsIA.
C.Ice creams with CNFs have been on sale at the market.
D.Slowly enjoying an ice cream will soon become a reality.

There are hundreds of genres(流派) of music,so while some might like one kind, others might like something completely different. Why do people like different kinds of music
36 At the same time, music can also help us feel like part of a group or a culture, especially one that shares an interest in a certain kind of music.
Music can also be nostalgic, that is,it creates a kind of longing for the past.Musicians leave behind a footprint with their music. 37 Even long after the musicians are gone, people still find something in the musicians’ recordings that they can enjoy.
We may also find that the music we like is strongly tied to our memory.Maybe there was a song that someone sang to us when we were little that brings up good memories. 38
When we listen to music that we like,a chemical called dopamine is sometimes released in the brain, which can make us feel good. 39 There are some algorithms(算法) today that can help pick up on the kind of music we like. When we are streaming music, some programs will let us like or dislike songs.
People’s taste in music can remain the same in their whole life or it can change many times. But the truth is,we don’t know all the exact answers to why people like different kinds of music—or sports,or food,or colors. 40 We are all different people who like different things.
A.It’s music to our ears.
B.Music can be a part of our identity.
C.It becomes a mirror that we are holding up.
D.They leave a permanent mark in people’s lives.
E.Therefore,we might want to listen to a song on repeat.

My husband Frank and I lived a simple life—carrying lunch to work, skipping vacations, and staying in.But it was our fifteenth wedding anniversary,so we decided to choose an expensive Italian restaurant.
Halfway through our very delicious dinner,Frank and I noticed that the two diners at the table to our right seemed to be looking for something under their table and all around. The elegantly dressed woman appeared to be in her late seventies, and the much younger male companion looked like her son.The woman kept touching her ear.
“Did you lose an earring?” I asked.
The woman shook her head and looked worried.
“My hearing aid,” she said.“My son finally convinced me to get it this week, and it’s so expensive,and...” she trailed off.“My son’s eyes are better than mine, but he can’t find it either.”
No waiters seemed to be helping, and the other Saturday night diners seemed to be purposely ignoring the small commotion.
Frank stood up immediately.“Let me look,” he offered.“You never know, maybe a fresh eye will spot it.”
“Oh,it’s very small, and it’s the same color as the floor,” the woman said, adding,“I don’t want to bother you.”
“That’s OK,let me try,” Frank said, and dropped to a crouch, moving a few inches at a time, eyes and hands sweeping back and forth.
Meanwhile,I stood over their table, scrutinizing(仔细检查),moving the dishes, using a fork to look under the bread in the basket, running my hand over the tablecloth, shifting the plates.
“Thank you so much,you two,” the woman said.“But I’m afraid it’s lost forever.Your dinner’s getting cold;please don’t worry.”
I saw tears forming in her eyes.Soon, her son sank back into his chair, too. But Frank kept looking until one of them thanked him again, and he too, finally sat down to finish eating.
Ten minutes later,as we were finishing our entrées,the mother and son were sipping coffee, silent.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
“I’m going to take one more look,” my husband said.
Frank smiled and said,“You are welcome.I’m just glad to be of help.”

语篇解读 本文是一篇议论文。作者围绕当代人为了防止冰淇淋融化必须很快吃完的现象展开话题,提出由研究者研究出一种添加物质可以让冰淇淋放缓融化,不影响口感的同时还能减少脂肪。
32.What prevents people enjoying an ice cream slowly
A.A kind of fibre from bananas.
B.The ice cream’s quick melting.
C.The ice cream’s stickiness.
D.The fat in the ice cream.
答案 B
解析 细节理解题。由第一段中的“The only thing that stops the fun is that the treat is hard to enjoy slowly, ending up with a sticky, melted mess.”可知,唯一阻止人们吃冰淇淋的快乐的就是人们很难去慢慢享受冰淇淋,慢慢吃冰淇淋导致的结果就是手上沾满了黏稠的融化了的冰淇淋。故选B项。
33.Why were CNFs added to ice cream mix
A.To improve its taste.
B.To increase its stickiness.
C.To reduce its fat content.
D.To make it melt more slowly.
答案 D
解析 细节理解题。由第三段中的“With the right amount of CNFs mixed in,the dessert lasted longer in its frozen state than the traditional ice cream”可知,混合适当数量的CNFs,甜品冰冻的状态跟传统的冰淇淋相比就能维持得更久。所以加CNFs的原因是为了让冰淇淋融化得更加缓慢。故选D项。
34.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.The ice cream. B.The fibre.
C.The fat. D.The stickiness.
答案 A
解析 代词指代题。由第三段中的“Since this is what determines the frozen treat’s creaminess and taste,CNFs could help create the healthier ice cream without influencing the taste of it.”可知,CNFs可以帮助生产出更健康的冰淇淋,而且不影响它的口感。所以这里it指的是冰淇淋。故选A项。
35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.BsIA is popular in the market.
B.CNFs are more useful and expensive than BsIA.
C.Ice creams with CNFs have been on sale at the market.
D.Slowly enjoying an ice cream will soon become a reality.

“I’m going to take one more look,” my husband said. Then, with his head down,he rummaged carefully, not caring about the mess, only worrying about missing a detail.Time went by bit by bit,and hard work paid off.“Ah!Here it is.” With a burst of surprise,Frank finally found a grape-sized hearing aid.The item he found was the elegantly dressed woman’s missing hearing aid. After cleaning up,the woman put on her hearing aid. It’s as good as new. They thanked Frank from the bottom of their hearts.
Frank smiled and said,“You are welcome.I’m just glad to be of help.” Frank came back to our table. We drank coffee and happily recalled the sweet life together. We imagined the bright future together.Later, the old lady and her son said goodbye and checked out. When we wanted to check out as well, the waiter told us that the two previous diners had checked out for us and left a note that said,“Thank you.Your help is like a lifeline, which makes me grateful.Best wishes, kind people.”
