阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

London, with countless famous sites and all manner of food, drink, shopping, history, and culture,is definitely a wonderful city to visit.
Time Zone
Greenwich Mean Time during the winter,British Summer Time during the rest of the year (starting at Daylight Saving Time).
Best Time to Go
The best time to visit London overall is in spring, when the temperatures have warmed up,the sun has started to shine and London’s gardens and parks are looking their best. However, the reality is that the best time to travel to London depends a lot on what you’re looking for.If you’re all about taking a look inside Queen Liz’s palace, you’d better make it in summer, while winter is beautiful and festive for those looking to get their fill of Christmas markets and traditional cheer.
Things to Know
Londoners, and English people in general, have a much different manner of interacting with one another than Americans do while an American might think nothing of smiling at a stranger they pass on the sidewalk or asking about work in the first few minutes of a conversation,Londoners might consider it impolite or strange.Don’t mistake this for unfriendliness;it’s just a cultural difference.Instead, talk about things like movies,TV shows, books, your travels, and the like, instead of work or family.
How to Get Around
Getting around London is unbelievably easy thanks to the well-maintained and extensive Underground. The Underground, unlike American transportation systems which often pay per ride or pay per length of trip,is paid in zones.Fare also varies based on time of day and the method you use to pay. It’s worth getting an Oyster card to make your life that much simpler.
21.Where is this text most probably taken from
A.A survey. B.A scientific journal.
C.A research paper. D.A guidebook.
22.When is the best time to visit London for people who enjoy a lively atmosphere
A.Spring. B.Summer.
C.Autumn. D.Winter.
23.Which of the following is a suitable topic for starting a conversation with Londoners
A.Daily entertainments.
B.Future plans.
C.Personal relationships.
D.Annual incomes.

Bard,Kinetic(Coffee House Press,2023) by Anne Waldman, one of the most important living American poets,is a new collection of autobiographical(自传体的) pieces, including published and unpublished essays, correspondence, interviews, and poems from the last 20 years.
Though the origin of the texts and poems is relatively recent,Bard,Kinetic tracks Waldman’s life from her childhood in Greenwich Village to the present.Rather than a memoir(回忆录),this energetic collection integrates her stories into contexts—literary, political, spiritual, familial.
In Sketch, the first and longest piece in the book,Waldman describes what guided her to poetry from an early age—Her intellectual and artistic parents encouraged her “to read widely,to write, think, talk about it,be curious and critical”.Reading Sketch for its wonderful autobiographical details and the successful moments that run through Waldman’s life is a pleasure. In Interview with Poetas,Madrid 2018,another piece from the book’s second section, she wrote,“We need cultural and humanitarian revolution. We need poetry to remind us of the magic we have had that needs attendance and recharge.” Her voice and vision have a collective width.
Waldman insists on combining art with nearly every aspect of her life.Bard,Kinetic,at all points,a high-energy construct, and at all points,an energy-discharge,puts readers on the path to recognizing poetry as a mental aid,as an action that reaches across geography, species, and time.As she wrote in the book’s preface, she commands herself to “keep pushing for knowledge, study with a deeper investigation and a deeper action. The action, totally necessary”.These are high aims that Waldman has insisted on,tirelessly, her entire life.Waldman shines. Her heart could be our heart.
This new book is best read as a companion of Vow to Poetry(2001),Waldman’s previous collection of interviews and autobiographical essays, which will help readers appreciate this book better.

Too much time spent on gaming, smartphones and watching television is linked to heightened levels and diagnoses(诊断) of anxiety or depression in children as young as age 2,according to a new study.
Even after only one hour of screen time daily, children and teens may begin to have less curiosity, lower self-control,less emotional stability and a greater inability to finish tasks, reports San Diego State University psychologist Jean Twenge and University of Georgia psychology professor W.Keith Campbell. They were particularly interested in associations between screen time and diagnoses of anxiety and depression in youth, which has not yet been studied in great detail.
Twenge and Campbell found adolescents who spend more than seven hours a day on screens were twice as likely as those spending one hour to have been diagnosed with anxiety or depression.Overall, links between screen time and well-being were larger among adolescents than among young children.
“At first,I was surprised that the associations were larger for adolescents,” Twenge said.“However, adolescents spend more time on their phones and on social media, and these activities are more strongly linked to low well-being than watching television and videos, which is most of younger children’s screen time.”
The study provides further evidence that the American Academy of Pediatrics’(AAP) established screen time limits—one hour per day for those aged 2 to 5,with a focus on high-quality programs—are valid(有效的),Twenge said. The study also suggests that similar limits—perhaps to two hours a day—should be applied to school-aged children and adolescents, said Twenge.
In terms of prevention, establishing possible causes and outcomes of low psychological well-being is especially important for child and adolescent populations.“Half of mental health problems develop by adolescence,” Twenge and Campbell wrote in their paper.
28.What do we know about Twenge and Campbell’s study according to paragraph 2
A.It requires further research.
B.It brings children less comfort.
C.It needs greater ability to finish.
D.It generates more public concern.
29.What is a reason for the different degrees of impact on children
A.The effects of the harmful contents.
B.Teens’ stronger addiction to screens.
C.The portability of electronic devices.
D.Teens’ negative emotions at discipline.
30.Which of the following do the researchers want AAP to do
A.Provide high-quality programs.
B.Issue minimum screen time limits.
C.Apply the limits to older children.
D.Present further evidence for prevention.
31.What does this study focus on
A.Adolescents’ mental problems.
B.The bad habits of the young adults.
C.Low level of mental health in youth.
D.The importance of the young population.
D
Technology seems to discourage slow reading.Reading on screens tires eyes easily. So online writing is more skimmable than print. The neuroscientist Mary Walt argued this “new norm” of skim reading is producing “an invisible, dramatic transformation” in how readers process words. And brains now favor rapid absorption of information, rather than skills developed by deeper reading, like critical analysis.
We shouldn’t overplay this danger. All readers skim.Skimming is the skill we acquire as we learn to read more skillfully. And fears about declining attention spans have proved to be false alarms.“Some critics worry about attention span and see very short stories as signs of cultural decline,” The American author Selvin wrote.“But nobody ever said poems were evidence of short attention spans.”
Yet the Internet has certainly changed the way we read.First,it means there’s more to read, because more people than ever are writing. And digital writing means rapid release and response.Once published, online articles start forming a comment string underneath.Such mode of writing and reading can be interactive and fun,but is probably lacking in profound reflection.
Perhaps we should slow down.Reading is constantly promoted as a source of personal achievement. But this advocacy emphasizes “enthusiastic” or “eager” reading—neither suggest slow absorption. To a slow reader,a piece of writing can only be fully understood by immersing oneself in their slow comprehension of words. The slow reader is like a swimmer who stops counting the number of pool laps he’s done and just enjoys how his body feels and moves in water.
The human need for this kind of deep reading is too determined for any new technology to destroy. We often assume technological change can’t be stopped,so older media are kicked out by newer, more virtual forms. In practice, older technologies can coexist with new ones. The Kindle hasn’t killed off printed books any more than cars killed off bicycles. We still want to enjoy slowly-formed ideas and carefully-chosen words.Even in a fast-moving age, there is time for slow reading.
32.What is the author’s attitude towards Selvin’s opinion
A.Favorable. B.Critical.
C.Doubtful. D.Objective.
33.Which statement would the author probably agree with
A.Advocacy of passionate reading helps promote slow reading.
B.Digital writing and reading tends to ignore careful reflection.
C.We should be aware of the impact skimming has on the brain.
D.The number of Internet readers declines due to technology.
34.Why is “swimmer” mentioned in paragraph 4
A.To demonstrate how to immerse oneself in thought.
B.To stress swimming differs from reading.
C.To show slow reading is better than fast reading.
D.To illustrate what slow reading is like.
35.Which would be the best title for the passage
A.Slow Reading Is Here to Stay
B.Technology Prevents Slow Reading
C.Reflections on Deep Reading
D.The Wonder of Deep Reading

On a late afternoon,Brandon finished feeding his cows on the farm and decided to go back with his two sons,Louie,6,and Everett,3.As they headed for the house, the two boys ran ahead of their father.Suddenly Brandon was aware he forgot to close the door of the barn(牲口棚).He told the boys to wait for him at the gate and returned to lock it.When he was at the gate minutes later,he saw only his youngest son.
“Where’s Louie?” he shouted.
“He fell in the hole!” Everett said.
Brandon quickly realized what had happened. No,he thought.Louie can barely swim! He ran to the well and heard Louie splashing.Instinctively,he jumped in.
Somehow Brandon managed to grab on to a pipe that ran down the side of the well, which slowed his fall and kept him from crushing(挤压) his son.
Finally,Brandon hit the freezing water at the bottom of the well.He popped his head out of the water and grabbed Louie, who was panicking and trying to stay afloat in water that was too deep for either of them to stand.Knowing they could tread(踩水) for only so long,Brandon lifted his son onto his chest as he packed his own back against the narrow walls for support.
“All right,Dad,you can pull us out now,” Louie said.
If only it were that easy. There was no way he could climb out.The pipe that he’d grabbed during his fall was too slippery to be of any use. There was only one way out.
Looking up to see Everett peering down at them from the top of the well,Brandon shouted,“Everett, you’re going to have to be a big boy and save us.Run to the road and stand by the mailbox until someone stops.Tell them we need help.”
Everett did as he was told.He stood alone by the side of the road, waving to stop someone.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
After a while,Chris and Mark, nearby farmers, were driving by the farm.
Twenty minutes later,Louie emerged(出现),then Brandon, both cold and wet.

W:There’s a group of guys who make the unhealthy meals they can possibly cook.Everything has bacon on it.Most things are fried, and there is a ton of cheese on everything. We’re talking tens of thousands of calories in one meal! In this show, the main guy introduces the meal, and then you see them shopping for the ingredients. You watch them cook everything. And at the end, they all eat it with their friends!

W:Brett, can I ask you a question about your dog
M:Sure.What’s up
W:Well,I have to get my little Ferguson some medicine.
M:Oh,is everything all right
W:Yes,of course. It’s not like he’s sick or anything.I give him medicine every month as part of his regular care,so he doesn’t get any diseases from insects or other dogs.
M:Oh,right.I do that for Fargo,too.
W:Yeah. That was what I was going to ask you about.Where do you buy your dog’s medicine I asked my vet,and she told me the prices.I almost dropped dead right there!
M:Yeah.Unfortunately, most special pet stores sell them at fixed prices that are set by the companies that make them. You can usually find discounts of ten or fifteen percent for a lot of those stores, though.
W:Well, that’s not a huge help for something that’s two hundred dollars per year! Isn’t there any other way
M:Well, you can order some medicines from websites that are based in other countries where the prices are lower.

This is the Lakewood Public Address System. This is not a test like the one we had last week.I repeat, this is not a test. The Western Hill Fire is spreading toward Lakewood much quicker than we had expected.Currently,we expect the fire to come within twenty miles of Lakewood by six o’clock this evening. We are therefore requiring all residents to leave this area immediately.
Springfield to the north,Point Cabina Station to the east, and Galveston to the south are all in the safe zone.It will take less than thirty minutes to drive to any of these towns.Take as many things as you can fit in your car,but do not delay. We have orders from the state police to make sure that the entire town of Lakewood is empty by five o’clock today. You have plenty of time to get all your family members, pets, and belongings together,so there is no need to panic.Stay calm, but get started as soon as possible.
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
London, with countless famous sites and all manner of food, drink, shopping, history, and culture,is definitely a wonderful city to visit.

After a while,Chris and Mark, nearby farmers, were driving by the farm.Everett rushed towards them and stopped them, telling them what had happened.Hearing the accident from Everett, they picked him up and sped to Brandon house.Upon arrival, they quickly jumped off the truck and grabbed a long thick rope and then rushed to the well.“Brandon,” they shouted, “We are going to send a rope down to you.” “OK,I will send Louie up first.” Brandon shouted back, freezing down there.
Twenty minutes later,Louie emerged(出现),then Brandon, both cold and wet.Struggling to his feet,Brandon hugged the two farmers tightly, whispering “You saved our lives! Thank you!” Yet,Mark said,“It was actually Everett who saved your lives.Without him,we wouldn’t have known the accident.Let alone the rescue!” Words could not express his surprise when the father turned to the 3-year-old boy.Everett cried, rushing to Brandon and Louie.Brandon held them tightly in arms, cherishing them like never before, and tears welled up in his eyes. Finally, they thanked the two farmers Chris and Mark again.
