Unit 4 My Favourite Subject
第五课时 Section B 2a—Project
This lesson is a combination of reading,writing,speaking and viewing.After completing the study of reading discourse,students will write a short article introducing their favourite subjects according to their real situations.The students will also learn to make their own weekly timetable with different subjects and explain why.This is a very meaningful activity,because it can not only help them better understand their learning needs,but also let them know more about the other students' interest and preference.
◆ Language Proficiency(语言能力)
1.Learn to introduce their views on the various subjects and reasons and tell each discipline has its value and importance.
2.Transfer and apply the vocabulary,target structures,sentence patterns,and various functional expressions learned in this unit to one's own writing.
◆ Cultural Awareness(文化意识)
1.Understand the differences of subject setting between Chinese and foreign schools,and clarify the value and significance of subject setting.
2.Deeply understand the meaning between the preference and the individual growth,and learn to treat the discipline study correctly.

◆ Teaching Focus(教学重点)
Sort out and summarize the theme diagram and the structure diagram,and verbally summarize the article based on structured graphics.Associate your personal information and write an article to introduce your favourite subject,including other subjects,feelings and the plete “Design a weekly class timetable” project,investigate the preference of classmates in the class,and list students' favourite subjects.
◆ Teaching Difficulties(教学难点)
Be able to accurately transfer and apply the vocabulary,target structures,sentence patterns,and various functional expressions learned in this unit to one's own writing.
◆ Teaching Breakthroughs(教学突破)
Teachers encourage students to express themselves in English based on their actual situation by speaking and writing more frequently.Make students have clear goals,apply the sentence patterns learned in this lesson to oral communication,and be able to apply them to writing to enhance their pragmatic abilities.
Activity 1 Warming up and revision(感知与注意)
The teacher and students greet each other.
Play a video the teacher recorded,and then get students to review the unit theme.Based on the teacher's questions,students review how to introduce their favourite subjects and the reasons.They need to think about questions like these:What subjects does Han Mei have this term?What's her favourite subject?Why
Think about what we've learned about how to express their favourite subjects.Collect some opinions about writing.
设计意图:通过观看教师录制的视频,学生可以复习单元主题内容,激活已学知识,采取师生互动,引发他们思考如何写一篇关于“My Favourite Subject”的短文。在教学中,教师利用由易到难的有层次的活动导入新课,实现阐明写作任务的目的。
Activity 2 Complete the mind map(获取与梳理)
Work on 2a
T:Let's complete the mind map with the students' own information in 2a.After that,let students exchange their answers.
Let students read the mind map from their partners,and then discuss it in English with the target language.
设计意图:教师根据教材提供的思维导图指导学生写作和表达目的语,为学生运用所学知识完成自己的写作提纲,选择和组织写作内容奠定基础。
Activity 3 Writing and sharing(内化和运用)

After completing 2a,let students try to write a passage using the information in 2a.
First,write down the subject,the class,the teacher and the future job.Then,let students try to write in 2b.(The teacher walks around to give proper help.) Next,let them exchange their compositions with their partners and correct them to lead them to find some beautiful words or sentences and some mistakes.Finally,let them correct their compositions.
Choose several students to read their compositions.The others listen carefully to find out the advantages and disadvantages.
设计意图:指导学生综合运用本单元所学内容,撰写初稿。引导学生通过体验、参与、自主发现、合作探究等方法来解决学习中遇到的问题。学生朗读自己的作文,可以体验成功感,树立学习信心。依据反思表格,学生可以清晰地知道自己本次写作完成得怎样,今后从哪些方面进行改进,以促进写作能力的提升。
Activity 4 Discussion and making(想象与创造)
Work on 3a
Talk about the subjects the students learn every week.Talk about one thing about each subject to inquire about subject information.Use the sentences “What subjects do you have at school?What do you think of the subjects?” to inquire about more information.With the help of the teacher,students will get more understanding of each subject and more motivation to learn them.
For example,“What subjects do you not like?Why do you still learn them?”
(Discuss in groups of three.Then get a leader to report what they discussed.)
With the help of the teacher,students complete the tasks in 3a and 3b in groups.If time permits,choose some students to come to the blackboard to introduce their group's timetable.
设计意图:通过讨论与汇报,学生将提高他们运用英语的能力,特别是他们的听力、口语和书面表达能力。这些活动还可以加强学生之间的相互理解与合作,增强班级凝聚力,实现育人目标。
Activity 5 Pair work(内化与运用)
Work on 3b
The teacher introduces the objectives,methods and expected learning outcomes of project learning to the students.
Students are guided by the teacher to define the project tasks in a group to make a weekly timetable,and explain the concept of the timetable and reasons.
The teacher guides each student in the group to think about possible questions,discuss the setting and arrangement of the course and the reasons for the design,and observe whether the student can actively participate in the discussion.
Students refer to the curriculum template,and plan how to set up the arrangements of the various subjects,and how to do more scientific and reasonable design of the curriculum.
Students work in groups and practice how to set up a one week timetable and explain reasons,using the target language.Then write the content of the report and share it in groups.Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the language.
Find at least three groups to share in front of the class.
设计意图:通过小组项目活动,让学生在“做中学、学中做”,有利于提升学生语言综合运用能力以及实践能力。教师对小组项目学习成果进行评价,可以帮助学生树立学习信心,学会反思,发展学生的学习能力。
Activity 6 Homework(反馈与强化)
Polish their passages and make a poster according to their passages.
The students can not only master English knowledge in practice,but also cultivate teamwork spirit and communication skills,which is of great significance for their comprehensive development.At the same time,these learning activities fully embody the quality education concept advocated by China's education department,focusing on cultivating students' balanced subject course attitudes and creating favorable conditions for their growth.
