Unit 5 Fun Clubs
第一课时 Section A 1a—2
This lesson revolves around the theme of “How do you choose a school club?” The teaching content includes three conversations,eight consonant phonemes and some examples of imcomplete plosion.In the conversations,students discuss the types of clubs within the school,use the modal verb can to express “what one can do”,and talk about “which club they want to join” based on their hobbies and abilities.Target sentences such as “What club do you want to join?” and “What can you do/can't you do?” are employed for interactive communication to enhance students' phonetic application skills.The phonetic section introduces eight consonant phonemes /p/,/b/,/t/,/d/,/k/,/g/,/f/,/v/ and the incomplete plosion phenomenon.

Use can or can't to discuss what one can or cannot do,and express the club one wishes to join using the target language.

Through learning about club topics,students can gain an understanding of club activities in different countries and cultural backgrounds,thereby enhancing their knowledge and awareness of English culture.

Improve information categorization skills,develop logical thinking,and enhance mental agility through the study of listening materials.
◆ Learning Capability(学习能力)
Develop autonomous learning and collaborative inquiry skills and the ability to extract key information through listening,observing,and reading activities.

Master vocabulary and sentence patterns related to discussing abilities,hobbies,and club names.Cultivate students' ability to develop their skills and hobbies.
◆ Teaching Difficulties(教学难点)
Master the usage of the modal verb can .Grasp the incomplete plosion phenomenon of the consonant groups /p/,/b/,/t/,/d/,/k/,/g/ in phrases or sentences.
◆ Teaching Breakthroughs(教学突破)
Be able to use the sentences in the dialogue to inquire about and respond to questions about desired clubs and basic information about plete role play within groups politely and appropriately.Conduct a survey on the clubs classmates wish to join,prepare a report,and present it to the class.
Activity 1 Free talk(感知与注意)
T:Today we are going to learn Unit 5.First let's look at the title and the picture.What are we going to learn in this unit?Yes,we are going to learn something about fun clubs.Look at the picture and share the three questions:
What are the students doing
What club do you think they are in
Do you want to join this club
(Collect the answers from students.)
T:Do you know school clubs?Are you in a school club?Do you want to share?Look at the pictures and talk about the clubs in your school.
Invite some students to share their ideas.
设计意图:通过观察文章的主题图、小组讨论、浏览教材等活动,让学生能够了解本单元的主题为有趣的社团,为接下来的单元学习提供情境。
Activity 2 Viewing and talking(感知与注意)
Work on 1a
T:Let's look at the pictures on 1a.Can you tell me something about what the pictures are about?What clubs are they about
T:Yes,we can see some clubs.Some students are playing chess,some are playing ping pong.We can also see a boy whose face is funny.Please match the clubs with the pictures from A to F.
Subsequently,ask students questions “Can you play chess?” or “Can you read with feeling?”
设计意图:通过观察课本图片,培养学生“viewing”的能力,教师提出的问题有效地将教材内容与学生实际结合起来,激发了学习兴趣,也调动了表达欲望。
Activity 3 Listening(获取与梳理)
Work on 1b—1c
Look at the table in 1b and the sentences in 1c,then predict what they are talking about in the conversations.
Play the recording for students.Get them to answer.What club does Teng Fei/Sam/Lin Hua want to join?Invite some students to answer orally.
Play the recording again and ask students to fill in the table in 1b.Before playing the recording,give some tips to them.For example,they can write the first letter of each word while listening.
Ask students to listen to three conversations again and complete the sentences with can or can't in 1c.
Play the recording for the fourth time and ask the students to repeat.Pay attention to the stress and intonation.
设计意图:通过预测任务引发学生思考,培养学生利用情境线索进行推断预测的能力;通过完成1b,1c的两个任务,培养学生准确获取、梳理和记录关键信息的能力;通过跟读练习,帮助学生更好地掌握语音语调。
Activity 4 Practice(概括与整合)
Work on 1d
T:Let's try to role play a conversation and show yourselves in front of the class.Try to use your own words.Practice the conversations with your partner.Then make your own conversations.
A:Hello!I want to join a drama club.
B:Great!Can you read with feeling
A:Yes,I can.
Ask several pairs to share their conversations.
设计意图:引导学生在归纳和整理核心语言的基础上,通过角色扮演使每位学生都能深入角色,运用语言理解意义,促进语言内化,从学习理解过渡到应用实践,为后面的真实表达做准备。
Activity 5 Have a report(内化与运用)
Interview three classmates and complete the table,then tell your group about the results.

设计意图:学生通过调查,完成小组成员相关信息的汇报,梳理、学习和内化关键句型与重点语言,为进一步在现实生活情境中运用所学做好铺垫。学生在调查和汇报中能够准确地询问和回答关于自己想要加入的社团,并能做到语言运用得体、正确。
Activity 6 Pronunciation(概括与整合)
Work on 1
T:Now,let's focus on pronunciation.Please listen to the recording carefully and repeat after it.Pay special attention to the consonant sounds.What is the pronunciation of /p/,/b/,/t/,/d/,/k/,/g/,/f/,/v/?Please write the sounds of the letters in your notebook.

T:Good job!Let's practice more.
设计意图:学生通过观察、朗读单词,并观察辅音字母和组合在单词中发音,探索、发现辅音字母在单词中的发音规律,并运用规律去拼读单词,学以致用。
Work on 2
T:Listen and circle the sentences you hear,then repeat them.I will show you some other words,such as “Sit down/Dad told me/Big cake”…
设计意图:学生在教师的指导下,了解失去爆破符号,听录音并且跟读单词,掌握句子中失去爆破的单词的发音。
Activity 7 Homework(反馈与强化)
Listen carefully and read the listening scripts fluently.
Search for more information about how to ask and answer about the club you want to join.
Section A 1a—2
Ask the students to predict what they will learn in this class by looking at the pictures.They can mobilize the background knowledge and train their ability to observe effectively.In the process of listening,the teacher conducted appropriate strategic guidance to enhance the ability to obtain information.In the real context created by the teacher,students make full use of the target language through a series of activities such as investigation,report and so on.However,the measure of evaluation should be varied.
