Unit 7 Happy Birthday!
第一课时 Section A 1a—2
The main purpose of this lesson is to enable students to practice daily English oral communication in a real situation through the theme of birthdays,improve their listening,speaking and looking abilities,and cultivate their teamwork spirit.
These four dialogues all revolve around birthdays and dates,allowing students to learn daily communication skills such as expressing cardinal numbers and ordinal numbers,asking for ages and dates on this special occasion.
◆ Language Proficiency(语言能力)
1.Be able to correctly recognize and pronounce consonant phonemes(/h/,/r/,/l/,/m/,/n/,/?/,/w/,/j/),and correctly pronounce common vocabulary containing the above consonant phonemes.
2.Be able to correctly express dates in English.
3.Understand the semantic functions of and answers to special interrogative sentences containing “how old” “what” and “when”,and be able to correctly use this structure to inquire and answer about the time or activity of doing something.
◆ Cultural Awareness(文化意识)
1.Understand the differences in expressing dates between British English and American English.
2.By learning English expressions related to birthdays,the students can better understand Western culture and improve their cross cultural communication skills.

1.Be able to quickly and accurately obtain information about the birthdays of the characters in the conversation through listening.
2.Be able to perform role playing politely and appropriately within the group,using language appropriately and correctly.

Identify and correctly pronounce the pronunciation and intonation in sentences,and apply them to other situations.
◆ Teaching Focus(教学重点)
1.Be able to quickly and accurately obtain information about the birthdays of the characters in the conversation,as well as the time of the event through listening.
2.Create a dialogue to discuss the birthdays of family or friends in the target language.
◆ Teaching Difficulties(教学难点)
Based on the given rising and falling tone symbols in the sentence,identify and master the pronunciation and intonation in the sentence.

The teacher needs to create certain contexts and guide students in their ability to summarize and integrate information.
Activity 1 Warming up and revision(感知与注意)
T:Today we are going to learn Unit 7.First,let's look at the title and the picture.What are we going to learn this unit?Yes,we are going to learn something about birthdays.Look at the picture and share the three questions.
What are the people doing in the photo
Whose birthday is it
How do you celebrate your birthday
T:We are going to learn “Section A How do we celebrate birthdays?” So when is your birthday?What do you usually do on your birthdays?Who do you celebrate birthdays with?Think about these questions and share your answers.
设计意图:通过浏览教材、观察文章的结构、小组讨论等活动,学生可以了解自己要学习和谈论的内容,从而激发学生的英语学习兴趣,激活已有背景知识,自然导入新课,同时也能培养学生的观察、推测能力。
Activity 2 Listening(获取与梳理)
Work on 1a
Students observe the picture about month,under the guidance of the teacher,listen to the words of month and ordinal number,and try to repeat them while circling the month and day of their own birthday.
Work on 1b
Play the first recording for students to listen and ask them to match people's names to birthdays based on what they hear.
T:Let's check the answers together.Yes,we got the answer.Let's see the differences between British English and American English in the ways to express dates.
Work on 1c
Students listen to the recording for the second time and answer questions.Find Helen's age,what birthday gift Teng Fei prepares for his father,and what Peter wants to do for Ms Gao's birthday.Write the answers,and check the answers under the teacher's guidance.
设计意图:学生观看屏幕提供的月份单词图片,帮助学生在情境中理解和掌握重点单词,学会日期的表达。教师在学生听前给予听力策略指导,帮助学生学会获取、记录关键信息的方法。
Activity 3 Listening(概括与整合)
The students listen to the recording and read along with the original listening text.Under the guidance of the teacher,students pay attention to the pronunciation of words.
设计意图:学生在老师的指导下注意单词的发音。
Activity 4 Role play(内化与运用)
Work on 1d
Students can use the target language to perform role playing in front of the class based on the listening materials.
Students can engage in group pairing activities within the group,and then share and demonstrate in front of the class.
Ask students to practice the conversations with their partner.
A:How old are you? B:I am…
A:When is your birthday? B:It's on…
Then the teacher invites several pairs to act it out in front of the class.
设计意图:通过角色扮演教材中的对话,让学生进一步巩固本课时重点语句。设计两人小组练习活动,因为有信息差存在,学生了解各自生日的欲望很强,能够有效内化所学语言知识。课堂展示能提升学生的语言综合运用能力。
Activity 5 Pronunciation(概括与整合)
T:We're going to learn about consonant sounds.Let's listen and repeat.Please pay attention to the sounds.
Then the teacher shows how to pronounce /h/,/r/,/l/,/m/,/n/,/?/,/w/,/j/.Ask students to watch carefully and write the sounds of the letters in their notebooks.Get students to pay attention to the letters “h,r,l,m,n,ng,wh,w,y”.Help them to find the connection between them.
Give more similar words to students on the screen and ask them to practice.
Play the humorous conversation for students.Ask them to notice the intonation in each sentence.Play the recording again and let them repeat the conversation loudly.
设计意图:本部分着重学习辅音字母的发音,为学生今后的学习打下基础。学生通过观察单词中辅音字母和组合的发音,探索和发现单词中辅音字母的发音规律。学生通过反复朗读,注意句子的语调(升调或降调)形成语感。教师指导学生应用这些发音规律来拼写单词,发展他们的学习能力。
Activity 6 Homework(反馈与强化)
Try to read the listening materials fluently.
Search for more information about how to ask and answer about ages and birthdays.Then write it down.
In the teaching of this lesson,the teacher can use the picture in the textbook and the title of the unit to lead into the new lesson directly and efficiently.At the same time,the teacher introduces ordinal numerals from cardinal numerals students learned in primary schools,which activates students' background knowledge and facilitate their acquisition of the target language.Looking back at the whole teaching,what the teacher needs to improve is to motivate more students to participate in class activities,so that every student has a harvest.
