1.Talk about Teng Fei's,Emma's,Peter's and Ella's abilities.
2.Talk about students' abilities and clubs they want to join.
3.Know about modal verbs:can,can't.
Language AbilitiesGrasp the following important points as well as be able to read and write correctly.Key words and phrases:news,exactly,paint,the music club,the sports club,the chess club,the art club,the dance club,the drama club,musical instrument,have no idea,sing well,play chess,paint well,read with feeling,start a music club,play the guitar.Key sentences:①—What club do you want to join?—I want to join the sports club.②—What instruments can you play?—I can play the drums.③—She can play the violin,right?—Yes,she can.④—Can you…?—Yes,I can./No,I can't.How about you?
Learning Abilities●Be able to improve language expression ability,including vocabulary application,sentence structure organization and oral fluency.●Be able to clearly elaborate one's own and classmates' abilities and club choices.
Thinking Qualities●Be able to analyze and evaluate others' viewpoints,and reflect on one's own choices.●Be able to state one's own viewpoints and reasons systematically,such as why one has a certain ability and why one wants to join a specific club.
Cultural Awareness●Understand the differences in students' views and choices of clubs under different cultural backgrounds.●Recognize the importance of clubs in campus culture and the cultural connotations represented by different types of clubs.
重点:
1.Students are able to master the relevant vocabulary and expressions for describing abilities and clubs,such as “ability” “join” “music club” and “sports club”.
2.Students are able to use sentence patterns to talk about abilities and the clubs they want to join,such as “I can/can't…” “I want to join the…club.”
难点:
1.Students are able to express their abilities and the will to join clubs accurately and fluently in English,avoiding grammatical errors and improper use of vocabulary.
2.Students are able to flexibly apply the learned knowledge according to the actual situation in communication,rather than mechanically reciting sentence patterns.
3.Students are able to understand the logical relationship between different abilities and clubs,and elaborate systematically.
Step 1 Lead in
1.The teacher shows a video about club recruitment.
T:The school wants some students for different clubs.Watch the video and answer the two questions.
Question ①:What clubs are mentioned in this video
Question ②:What club do you want to join
2.The teacher chooses three or four students to answer the questions.

Step 2 Listening & Speaking(2a~2c)
Work on 2a
1.Ask students to listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks.
2.Ask students to share the answers and the teacher corrects their pronunciation if necessary.
Work on 2b
1.Ask students to read the conversation and complete the table.
(While reading,the teacher walks around and correct students' pronunciation.)
T:Peter,Emma,Ella and Teng Fei want to join different clubs.What can they do?What club do they want to choose?Let's read the conversation together and find out their abilities and favourite clubs.…You read so fluently.Now let's look at 2b.Please complete the table.
2.Ask students to share the answers and the teacher helps to correct if necessary.
3.Ask students to find out the sentences which talk about one's abilities.
(The teacher writes key points on the blackboard.①What club do you want to join ②—What instruments can you play?—I can play the drums.③I can't play any musical instruments.④She can play the violin.)
Work on 2c
1.Ask students to listen to the conversation again and pay attention to the letters that are silent.
2.Ask students to role play the conversation.

Step 3 Speaking(2d~2e)
Work on 2d
1.Ask students to finish 2d.
T:Do you have these abilities?What club do you want to join?Circle can or can't with your own information,and then tick the club(s) you want to join.You can add more items if you want.
2.Ask two or three students to share their answers in class.
(Students share their answers in complete sentences.)
Work on 2e
Ask students to discuss the clubs they want to join in pairs using the sentence patterns in 2d.

Step 4 Summary
Ask students to make a summary about what they have learned today.

Step 5 Homework

2.Do the exercises in students' workbooks.
