Unit 5 Fun Clubs
Section A Grammar Focus(3a–3d)
【教学内容】
情态动词 can 的用法。
【核心素养】
1.学生能够理解并掌握情态动词 can的基本用法。
2.学生能够准确运用 can来描述个人或他人的能力。
3.学生能够通过练习活动，提升语言综合运用能力，包括听、说、读、写四个方面。
【重点难点】
重点：情态动词 can的正确使用及其在不同语境下的表达。
难点：准确理解 can在句子中的含义，并灵活运用其进行句子构造和表达。
【教学过程】
Step 1 Lead- in
1. Greet students and ask about their interests and hobbies.
2. Present the topic of school clubs and ask students if they have ever joined any clubs or or- ganizations. Guide students to discuss what clubs they would like to join and why.
Step 2 Work on 3a
1. Write some examples of sentences with can on the board and explain its basic meaning and usage.
Examples:I can play soccer. Can you play soccer What can you do
2. Ask students to identify the verbs in bold in 3a and observe if they change form when used with can. Explain that can is used to express ability and it does not change the form of the verb that follows it.
3. Read the sentences in 3a.
Step 3 Work on 3b
1. Have students work in pairs and complete 3b by matching the two parts to make sen- tences. Encourage students to create their own sentences using can and share with their partners. Monitor and provide feedback on students’ use of can.
2. Check the answers.
A fish can swim.
A duck can fly.
A parrot can speak.
A dog can run fast.
A cat can climb trees.
Step 4 Work on 3c
1. Guide students to complete 3o by choosing the correct words from the box to fill in the blanks.
2. Ask a few students to read their completed passages aloud and discuss the meanings.
Step 5 Work on 3d
1. Organize students into small groups and assign each group a different club to focus on.
2. Have students conduct interviews within their groups, asking each other if they can do certain activities related to the assigned club (e. g. : for a sports club, ask if they can play bas- ketball).
3. After the interviews, students should tick what he or she can do and prepare a short report on the abilities of their group members.
4. Each group presents their report to the class, using can to describe the abilities of their group members.
Step 6 Summary and Homework
Summarize the lesson by emphasizing the importance of can in expressing ability.
Assign homework: Ask students to write a short paragraph about a club they would like to join and use can to describe the activities they are able to do.
