On a Saturday morning last November, I got up at 5 to be at the Armory track on 168th Street in Harlem, a neighborhood in Manhattan for the girls’ 4×2 relay race (接力赛).
I joined the team when I was a freshman at Abraham Lincoln High School. I hadn’t considered it until a girl came up to me and said, “You look like a good runner. Would you like to join the track team ” She thought I would make a good runner because she saw my legs and arms were built, but I was just naturally slim.
I was excited and surprised, “I don’t know. What do I have to do ”
“It is a lot of hard work and devotion. It’s not easy.”
She was right. My team had practice every day from 3:30 to 6 except for Fridays. When we didn’t have practice, I’d run on my own on the boardwalk. I got faster and focused. Track helped me get away from troubles. Arguments with my mom, problems with schoolwork, and dramas with the kids at school. I felt calm every time I ran.
I got to the Armory at 7. My team was already there. We gave each other hugs and high fives. When the officials called for the relay race, I went out to the starting line. Then the gun went off. As I pounded the track, I was focusing so much on myself. I started running away from my problems. I couldn’t see anyone or anything but the finish line. Everything else was just a blur. I fought to the finish line. I wasn’t only fighting against the other teams; I was also fighting to win my battle against my stress.
I could feel the wind blowing against my skin. I felt like I was flying. My stress disappeared. I came in second as I passed the baton (接力棒) to my teammate.

Blonde chocolate is not as popular as milk, dark, and white chocolate, but it has already been known as one of the most wonderful variations (变种) of white chocolate ever created.
The history of blonde chocolate can date back to the year 2004 when French chef Frederic Bau was busy showing off his skills during an exhibition in Japan. He was so absorbed in his show that he left his white chocolate melting in a bain-marie (蒸锅) for four days. When he finally got back to it, the chocolate had become pale brown and had a very special smell and taste. Frederic quickly came to realize the potential of his discovery, and blonde chocolate was born.
He knew he was on his way to something when he tasted blonde chocolate for the first time. However, because the treat was technically the result of an accident, there was no way to produce the result again, at least not immediately. The French chef spent the next seven years experimenting and perfecting the process, to make sure that he produced the best blonde chocolate every time.
Since 2012, blonde chocolate has been sold by French chocolater Vlrhona under the name Dulcey, but even though it has made quite an impression on the experts in the years since, blonde chocolate is still not a mainstream (主流的) dessert. That is mainly because French lawmakers refuse to recognize the sweet treat as a fourth type of chocolate. Instead, they recognize it a variation of white chocolate.
Blonde chocolate shares a similar story with another unique dessert, Ruby chocolate, the naturally pink chocolate made with Ruby cocoa beans. In 2017, it was called “the biggest innovation in chocolate in 80 years”. Therefore, there is no need to worry about the future of blonde chocolate.
28. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about
A. The origin of blonde chocolate. B. The design of blonde chocolate.
C. The importance of blonde chocolate. D. The process of making blonde chocolate.
29. Why do people seldom choose blonde chocolate as a mainstream dessert
A. It is refused by most of French experts.
B. It is not as delicious as other sweet treat.
C. It is not warmly welcomed by young people.
D. It is recognized as a variation of white chocolate.
30. Why does the author mention Ruby chocolate in the last paragraph
A. To present the misfortune of Ruby chocolate.
B. To doubt a growing concern about chocolate.
C. To show a promising future of blonde chocolate.
D. To criticize public attitude towards blonde chocolate.
31. What might be a suitable title for the text
A. People’s Thoughts towards Blonde Chocolate
B. Blonde Chocolate, Another Type of Sweet Dessert
C. The Uncommon Development of Blonde Chocolate
D. Blonde Chocolate, a Delicious Treat Created by Mistake
D

He would usually ride on his skateboard when he was free but his parents had kept it hidden from him. Dio’s mind was fixed on the skateboard. Just then, an idea came to his mind. He rose from his bed and thought “They must have kept the skateboard somewhere in the attic (阁楼). They have always forbidden me from going up there!” He could not bear the boredom of being at home so he decided to disobey his parents. Dio took a chair and placed it in front of the attic. After numerous attempts, he managed to climb up into it. Taking his phone from his pocket and turning on the flashlight, he searched for the skateboard until he found it. He jumped down, ran back into his room, locked his door, set up a decoy (替身) to take his place and together with his skateboard, jumped over the wall. He rushed out of the house without thinking twice.
Without any safety equipment, Dio was on his way. Dio rode on his skateboard feeling the soft wind kissing his skin. He started skating towards the local park near their house. Dio was on the top of the world. Suddenly, a little kid appeared on his path. Dio knew that he could not stop the skateboard in time to avoid the kid. He was skating at a high speed and drops of sweat formed on his forehead. With his face as pale as a sheet, he knocked on a rock and was sent flying into the air. It all happened so quickly.
