In the busy center of Shanghai, near Jing’an Temple, there is a lively canteen at noon. The Tongxin Canteen offers over 60 different dishes that change every day for people to enjoy.
Such a canteen was created to provide healthy and affordable meals to the elderly, making sure they receive proper nutrition. The Shanghai government planned to build 200 new community canteens from 2019 to 2021, bringing the total to 1,608 by the end of the year.
A simple meal here, including one meat dish and two plates of vegetables, costs less than 20 yuan, which is much cheaper than that in downtown restaurants. All meals are prepared freshly in local restaurants.
These community canteens not only benefit (使收益)the elderly but also bring convenience for the young. Chen Luo, who works nearby, found this peaceful place. However, she didn't have time to cook for herself. "I would spend two hours cooking and cleaning up just for a 10-minute meal," she said. The nearby community canteen is a perfect solution for her.

In English, when someone is very angry, we say this person “sees red”, like the way a bull goes wild after seeing a red cloth. Now it turns out that “seeing red” is not just an expression for angry people, but also a scientific fact.
Researchers at North Dakota State University in the US found that there is a connection between the color red and anger. (A) Angry people really do “see red” while others don’t. And a preference for red over blue may even suggest a more hostile (怀有敌意的) character.
The study includes a number of tests. In the first, researchers asked a group of people which color they preferred, red or blue. These people then did a character test. Results showed that those who chose red are more hostile.
During a second test, the people looked at pictures that could be seen as either red or blue. Those who saw red scored 25 percent higher on hostility in the character test.
“Hostile people have hostile thoughts; hostile thoughts are connected with the color red. Therefore, hostile people see the red color more often,” the researchers say.
Finally, the people who took part in the character test were told about some situations in which they could take different actions. Results showed that in these situations, red-preferring people were more likely to show that they would hurt another person than those who preferred blue.
“An important message from this research is that color can send psychological (心理的) meaning,” the researchers said.
Where does this connection between the color red and anger come from Scientists said it might be a matter of evolution (进化). In ancient times, dangerous plants and animals could cause wounds and bleeding. So it may have become natural for our ancestors to connect the color red with danger.
