     Study of the Text                         
What: This text talks about amazing animals in an old Chinese storybook called The Classic of Mountains and Seas. There’s a fun quiz too, asking about different animals and their special features. It’s a start to learning about animals.
Why: The author aims to spark students’ interest in animals and motivate them to explore these creatures, extraordinary features. The quiz gets students excited to learn more about animals and their cool traits. It makes them think and explore, and checks what they know. Using the old storybook adds some Chinese culture, linking the lesson to history and stories, which makes learning more meaningful.
How: The text starts with a question about the book, then there’s a quiz about animals. Students guess things like which animal has the longest neck or sees things from the farthest away. Pictures help show the animals, making it simple and easy to remember them.

1.To know more facts about animals. Step 1 Lead-in Begin with a presentation of a picture of a kind of animal in The Classic of Mountains and Seas, and raise some questions around the picture. (1)What animal is it (2)What does it look like Assess students’ active engagement in speaking activities and their ability to express their ideas correctly and clearly.
Purpose Arouse students’ interests of wanting to know some amazing animals, not only making students have something to say, but also paving the way for the following texts.
2.To talk about different kinds of animals. Step 2 Presentation A video about amazing animals in The Classic of Mountains and Seas is played, which further makes students to talk about which one they think is the most amazing and why. And the sentence pattern is provided as follows:  I think     is the most amazing, because it looks like     and it has     . Evaluate if students can use the provided sentence pattern to express their ideas correctly and clearly.
Purpose This activity aims to make students excited to talk about magical animals from an old storybook. It helps them share their thoughts clearly and in a fun way, and learn more about Chinese stories.
3.To describe ani-mals’ appearance and abilities. Step 3 Survey and Talk Students are required to do an animal quiz. Then they are asked to describe animals’ appearance and abilities. Assess students’ participation in the quiz and discussion, focusing on their accuracy in identifying animals’ features and their clarity in describing physical traits and abilities.
Purpose Check and grow students’ knowledge about animals, and improve their speaking skills as they talk about animals’ looks and skills.
Homework Required: Copy and practise phrases related to animals, and focus on correct vocabulary and the sentence pattern. Optional: Introduce your favourite animals to other classmates in English after class.
