I had always wanted to be a bicyclist. It changed when I met Lizzie and her horse at twelve.
One afternoon, I saw Lizzie looking up at a life-sized sculpture horse.
"It needs a rider," she turned to me. "Would you be the rider, Bonny "
"I can't."
"You can ride bikes. It's not that different. You'd just sit there. I'd sketch(画素描) you, sculpt you." Later, I tried to sit on the horse. It felt strange up there — much higher than on bikes.
I came every day after that. I looked forward to mixing up the plaster and holding it for Lizzie. I liked that. She was sculpting me up, little by little.
After a few days' work, I became the rider on the horse. It was me inside that skeleton.
When it was finished, I could hardly take my eyes off the magnificent horse and rider.
"Well," said Lizzie. "What do you think, Bonny "
"I just wish I could make a sculpture," I whispered, touching the neck of the horse.
"You did, Bonny," she said. "Without your help, I couldn't have done it. Do you want to make a sculpture yourself "
"I can't."
"Of course you can. But you have to look around, really look. Draw what you see. Make what you've sketched. You can have a corner of my studio. How's that "
I followed her words and set to make my small sculpture, layer on layer. The more I did, the more I felt I belonged to this new world. With growing interest, I kept sculpting. __________.
Lizzie was working in the studio too. For minutes, a neck or leg would suddenly come to life. "When you do it, it's like magic," I said.
She replied, "No, Bonny. Not magic. It's a given thing, a talent from who knows where, who knows who. But once you discover you have it, whatever it is, it's not to be wasted. Life's too short to waste it."
Then came my summer holiday. I drew every day, boats, gulls and fishermen. I made sculptures with wet sand. My parents seemed surprised at my new interest. I never had such a perfect holiday.
Months later, a cardboard arrived to me in a post. It was of me sitting on the horse.
So here I am, twenty years on, working as a sculptor. As I look out from my sculpture studio window, I see Lizzie's Horse and Rider and all around my sculptures are gathered
Magic life, I think.

①Anger often makes us uncomfortable. Seeing your child's anger can be especially uncomfortable. In order to relieve(缓解) this feeling, parents will often encourage children to "stop crying" and say things like "It's nothing to cry about " It's moments like these that plant the seeds of unhealthy anger. If a child never sees his or her parent express anger, he or she should never express anger, either. But if a parent always expresses their anger loudly, the child may start to think of anger as something that is always frightening. So we should learn how to create healthier anger in our kids.
②The first thing you can do to create healthier anger in your children is to practice creating healthier anger in yourself. Once you're better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you'll be able to set a good example for your kids.
③Stopping kids from expressing their feelings is wrong. You may feel bad when you believe you are wrong. When children express their feelings and are told that it's nothing to cry about, they come to know that they themselves are bad
④We need to raise them in an environment where it's safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful feeling. When your kid expresses anger, help them examine what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry How did it do that Then, you can teach them that those feelings are never wrong and our expressions of our feelings are in our control.
⑤Anger is natural and normal, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.
49. From the first paragraph, we can infer _____.
A. parents have a great influence on their children
B. parents should get angry with their children
C. expressing anger loudly is right not wrong
D. children should express their anger like their parents

D. expressing their own anger in a healthier way

It is said that Thomas Edison used to chase the twilight(追求模糊状态) moments between wakefulness and sleep. Supposedly. he used to fall asleep in a chair. holding two balls in his hands. As he nodded off, the balls fell down. The resulting noise woke him up. Then, he could write down his inventive ideas before he fell into a deep sleep and forgot them. This inspired a new study.
Researchers tested Edison's method of encouraging creativity with 103 healthy people. Volunteers came to the lab to solve a number problem. They were asked to change some numbers into a shorter sequence(序列). They were told to follow two simple rules. However, what the volunteers weren't told was that there was an easy trick to finish this task. The second number in the sequence would always be the correct final number.
After doing this task 60 times, volunteers got a 20-minute break. Volunteers held the similar balls that Edison used as "alarm clocks". The researchers told them to rest or sleep if they wanted to. All the while. their brain waves were kept track of(跟踪). More than half of the volunteers stayed awake. Twenty- four fell asleep and stayed in the stage(阶段) of sleep called N1. Fourteen others progressed to N2, a deeper stage of sleep.
After their rest, volunteers returned to their number problem. People who reached the N1 stage of sleep were 2.7 times as likely to discover the hidden trick as people who stayed awake and were 5.8 times as likely to discover the trick as people who fell into a deeper sleep stage.
"Such obvious(明显的) differences in such experiments are not common," said Delphine Oudiette, a scientist. "We were quite surprised at the results, and more work is needed to show the connection between N1 and creativity." Interestingly, according to the result of the experiment, people may be able to learn to take advantage of that twilight stage of sleep. Undoubtedly. Edison is such a great person, but there is no need to pay too much attention to Edison's habit. He is also said to have considered sleep "a total waste of time".
53. Why did Edison chase the twilight moments between wakefulness and sleep
A. To fall asleep faster. B. To have inventive ideas.
C. To keep healthy. D. To be different.
54. How many volunteers stayed awake after the researchers told them to rest or sleep
A. 65 B. 24 C. 14 D. 51
55. Who was the most likely to discover the hidden trick in the test
A. Volunteers who stayed awake. B. Volunteers who progressed to N2.
C. Volunteers who reached the N1 stage of sleep. D. All the volunteers who took part in the study.
56. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A It's necessary to pay much attention to Thomas Edison's habit.
B. Chasing the twilight moments proved to be true.
C. To show the connection between N1 and creativity, there is still a long way to go.
D. Delphine Oudiette is sure of the connection between N1 and creativity.
