Analysis of material 1. The main content This lesson is from Unit 2 Module 6 of Grade 8. It focuses on animals’ protection. 2. The type of this unit This is an expository about pandas are in danger and how to protect them. It is mainly organized from three parts: an introduction about pandas, the reasons why they are in danger and the measures. In the text, we can find out some information about the importance of protecting pandas and the effort of the WWF to protect them.
Analysis of students Student status 1. Students are in the first term of grade two in junior middle school. They have mastered some words and expressions to read the text about the animals in danger, but they might lack of skills to express their ideas of protecting the animals in danger. 2. They are interested in the topic, but they may be too shy to express their own thought.
Teaching objectives After learning this lesson, students will be able to 1. Generalize the main idea about protecting the animals in danger by skimming the text. (understanding) 2. Analyze what scientists, government and the WWF have done to protect pandas. (Analyzing) 3. Summarize the measures to protect the animals in danger by using the knowledge learned in this lesson. Also, the WWF chose the panda to be its symbol and it is working hard to save them all. S2: There are few pandas and they are losing their home. But the scientists, government and the WWF is making efforts to protect them. 2. Discuss the question. Can you think of other ways to protect animals
Purpose 1. To improve their speaking abilities. 2. To cultivate students’ communicative strategy and critical thinking in learning English. Core competence Language Competence---to extract the theme and express their ideas. 3. Cultural Awareness---Form the awareness of protecting the animals in danger.
Probing into the theme (8mins) Group work 1. Talk about an animal in danger in group of four based on the following questions. After that, write a passage and report it to the whole class. What is the animal Where does it live What does it feed on Why is it in danger How difficult is the situation (6) What can we do to save it For example: I like golden monkey. They live in the forest. But now they are in anger. We should protect the forest to save them… Group work 1. Talk about an animal in danger in group of four based on the following questions. After that, write a passage and report it to the whole class. S: Baiji live in Yangtze River. They usually eat fishes and water plants. Now you can hardly see them in Yangtze River because they are rare and being overfished. So, we should spread more information about protecting Baiji. At the same time, government should do more research to find their tracks and protect them.

Reflection
According to the teaching design, the teaching of reading will be done in a flexible way. This lesson focuses on the WWF and animals in danger. Most of the students can involve in the class, but some of them still dare not to speak. The teacher should encourage students to speak more and gain more confidence from learning English.
