I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. She had just moved to the neighborhood and her grandmother brought her down to meet me. I hid behind my mother and she hid behind her grandmother, scared of looking at each other.
Soon, we lost the shyness and started playing with each other, riding bikes to each other's house and having sleepovers. In 7th grade she was going through family problems. However, every summer we would sit at each other's house, watch movies on TV and talk about all the boys we liked.
It was last year that I noticed the problem. She suffered from clinical depression (临床抑郁症), and had to go to a hospital during the day. I was very sorry for her at first. But with the late night calls and meeting each other halfway up the street at midnight, we still stayed in touch. I wanted to be there for her since her new best friend left her, and I knew I still cared about her like a sister.
Yesterday she came to me and said, "I never knew what a best friend was until you were the only person that would stop me from cutting myself and that ever made me feel better about myself and my problems. You didn't know this but I was trying to kill myself that very night you called me and I was crying. I owe you so much, and you didn't even know you were helping me."
We both cried. And I guess a kind of lesson from my life so far is to never give up your friends. Even if they aren't as cool as others, or people think they are crazy, they need someone there. If you leave them, you will only be very sorry. So if your friends need you, and you care about them, you should be always there for them.
24. Why did the two girls hide behind their family members when they first met
A. Because they were playing a game. B. Because they didn't like each other.
C. Because they quarreled before. D. Because they were both shy.
25.What’s the problem of my best friend
A.family problems B.having difficulty in studying
C. clinical depression D.bad relationship with classmates
26. What would have happened to her friend if the author had not cared about her
A. She would have lost her new best friend.
B. She would have killed herself that night.
C. She would have run away from her family.
D. She would have stayed in hospital for a long time.
27. What lesson can we learn from the story
A. Always care about your friends. B. Don't care about others' opinions.
C. Never owe your friends too much. D. Try to be as cool as others.
C
We have all heard those people who say “ exercise addiction,” but for many of us, it is hard to really love exercise. Some might even say they hate it or fear it. Why do they hate exercise And how can they overcome this bad habit to get their bodies moving
Throughout most of human history, because of lack of food, being active was not a wise choice. As soon as our ancestors were well fed, they rested to save energy, because they did not know where their next meal was coming from. So if you have the urge to sit down rather than go to the gym, you might find comfort in the knowledge that humans have a natural tendency to stay still.
Having said that, a growing number of people in modern society have adopted a sedentary(久坐不动的)lifestyle. Yet, remaining physically inactive is terrible for our health. It is recommended that adults aged 18 to 65 get at least 150 (preferably 300) minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week. If this sounds too difficult, here are some tips to help you get motivated.
According to psychologists, there are two kinds of motivation for engaging in any activity: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation arises from within an individual, while extrinsic motivation relies on external factors.
Do you work out to pass physical fitness tests or for your own sake Having a clear picture in your mind of what you want to gain from doing exercise can help put your fitness programs into action. To boost your extrinsic motivation, try arranging to meet a friend to exercise together. You will be more likely to follow through because most people don’t want to let their friends down. Furthermore, reward yourself with a new piece of sports clothing or shoes that you hope to wear while working out. Be sure to make the reward conditional on doing a certain amount of exercise so that you have to earn it.
Whatever method you adopt, be patient with yourself and keep the long game in mind--it takes around three to four months to get into the habit of regular exercise. After that, the intrinsic motivators will take over to keep your exercise routine going.
What does the author want to show by mentioning our ancestors
It’s important to get into the habit of working out.
It may do harm to our health if we work out too much.
Our ancestors actually liked exercise.
It’s understandable that some people don’t want to do exercise.
When should you reward yourself according to Paragraph 5
The moment you decide to work out regularly.
After you have achieved a goal set by yourself before.
When you have saved enough money to buy something.
Before you start to make a long-term exercise plan.
What is the main purpose of this article
To tell the difference between two kinds of motivation.
To analyze the reason why people hate exercise.
To encourage people to do some exercise.
To solve the problem of people lacking motivation.
What is the author’s attitude toward people who hate exercise
Respectful. B. Indifferent. C. Hateful. D. Objective.
D
While screen time is known to affect sleep, new research suggests that interactive(互动的) activities, such as texting friends or playing video games, put off and reduce the time spent asleep to a greater degree than passive (被动的) screen time like watching television, especially for teens.
The team studied the daytime screen-based activities of 475 teenagers using daily surveys. They asked the teens how many hours they had spent that day communicating with friends through social media and how many hours they spent playing video games surfing the internet and watching television or videos. Finally, the researchers asked if they had joined in any of these activities in the hour before bed.
Next, the team measured their sleep time for one week. The researchers found that the teens spent an average of two hours per day communicating with friends via social media, about 1.3 hours playing video games, less than an hour surfing the internet and about 1.7 hours watching television or videos. For every hour throughout the day that they used screens to communicate with friends, they fell asleep about 11 minutes later averagely. For every hour to play video games, they fell asleep about 9 minutes later. Those who talked, texted or played games in the hour before bed lost the most sleep: about 30 minutes later.
Interestingly, David, lead author of the study, said the team found no obvious relations between passive screen-based activities and sleep. “It could be that passive activities are less mentally exciting than interactive activities,” said Anne, co-author of the study. “It’s a tricky situation,” she said. “These screen tools are really important to everyone nowadays, so it’s hard to put a limit on them, but if you’re really looking out for a teenager’s health and well-being, you might consider limiting the more interactive activities, especially in the hour before bed.”
32. Which of the following belongs to interactive screen activities
A. Seeing movies. B. Watching videos.
C. Texting friends. D. Surfing the internet.
33. Who might lose the most sleep according to the text
A. Lucy who watched a three-hour movie before going to bed.
B. Jack who had a 30-minute video chat with his brother before bed.
C. Sam who played computer games for two hours throughout the day.
D. Amy who chatted with her friends on We Chat for one hour in the morning.
34. What does the underlined word “tricky” mean in paragraph 4
A. Frightening. B. Awkward. C. Hopeless. D. Encouraging.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Screen Time Activities Cut Down Our Sleep Hours
B. Interactive Screen Use Reduces Sleep Time in Teenagers
C. Passive Screen Use Is Better Than Interactive Screen Use
D. Parents Should Prevent Children from Using Social Media

I experienced years of loneliness as a child. 36 His friends teased him about babysitting his sister and his interests were far different from mine. With no other kids of my age in the neighborhood, I had to spend hours by myself.
A bright spot for me turned out to be reading. My love of the written word began early as my mother read to me every evening. 37 I started reading books on my own before age 5 and my mother took me to the public library once a week to borrow several books. I quickly graduated from typical children’s books to ones with fewer pictures and longer chapters. Reading opened new worlds to me. 38
My mother also encouraged me to make what I wanted. I tried making toy cars with cardboard boxes and constructing buildings from leftover cardboard and bits of wood my father gave me. When my mother saw my creations, she told me how creative my designs were. 39 I learned a lot about how to extend the life of objects(物品) and transform them into something new and useful. It was a trait(特点) others found helpful, and I soon had friends who wanted to make things with me.
40 My parents made it a point for their two kids to spend time outside, no matter the weather or season. My brother, of course, raced off to be with his friends, while I had plenty to do myself. There was making leaf houses in autumn, ice skating in winter, and so much more. They’re all memories I treasure today.
