活动一:感知与注意 Appreciate and discuss.
(1)Ask students to watch a video about Pingyao.
(2)Show some pictures about Pingyao to students and have them discuss some questions.
·Have you ever been to Pingyao .What is your impression of it

活动二:获取与梳理 1.Lead-in.
Backpacker Paul is talking to a receptionist at an international youth hostel in Pingyao,China.Ask
students to answer what a backpacker is. 2.Listen and tick.
Ask students to listen to a conversation and tick the places mentioned in Activity 1. Suggested answer:
Ming-Qing Street;Rishengchang Bank;the city wall;Shuanglin Temple

Ask students to listen to the conversation again and complete the sentences to describe how the speakers felt.(Activity 2)

活动四:分析与判断
1.Ask students to pay attention to the speaker's tone of the underlined sentences.
Xiao Yan:Oh,well,what about the Ming-Qing Street-that's pretty big.Some of the snacks there are amazing!
Paul:Oh,that place,yes.But I had no idea there would be so many tourists!So I decided to leave
and ride out to Shuanglin Temple.
Xiao Yan:Oh,cool,that's one of my favourite places!It's so peaceful out there.
Paul:Yeah,that place is really quiet.And some of those sculptures-wow!I couldn't believe how big and lifelike they were.
2.Ask students to compare the two groups of sentences.
(1)Oh,that place,yes But I had no idea there would be so many tourists!So I decided to leave and ride out to Shuanglin Temple.
(2)Oh,that place,yes.I tried many delicious snacks there.

It was so much fun! It was a little disappointing. It wasn't as good/interesting/fun as I'd expected.
3.Role-play.
Imagine one of the students has just visited Pingyao.Ask them to work in pairs and role-play the conversation in Activity 3.Then have them continue the conversation using the expressions in the box above.
Suggested answer:
A:Wow,I've just come back from Pingyao.It was amazing! B:Oh,I loved Pingyao!So did you see the Ming-Qing Street A:Of course,but I didn't expect to see so many tourists.
B:Yeah,I know what you mean,but there are some great snacks there.How about the Rishengchang Bank
A:It was so much fun!It wasn't as big as I had expected,but it was interesting to learn that
people actually went to banks hundreds of years ago.
B:Yes,it was amazing...Did you go to Shuanglin Temple
A:Yes,but it was a little disappointing.I was eager to learn something about Buddha,but I didn't have enough time to explore in the temple.We had to hurry to the next place. B:Oh,don't worry.We can go there again together.

活动六:想象与创造 Think and talk.
(1)Ask students to think about a historic place that they have been to.
(2)Ask students to make a dialogue to introduce one of their trips to a historic tourist destination. Have them consider the following aspects.
·Include at least three aspects we mentioned today. ·Show your true feelings about the trip.
Step 1 Choose a historic place you want to talk about. Step 2 List the aspects you will talk about.
Step 3 Remember to express your feelings with the help of different sentences and tones.
