Step 1　Lead-in Students look at the three pictures provided and answer the questions: 1.Which picture reminds you of your father 2.How can you describe your father and his love for you Step 2　Pre-reading 1.Students read the title “Silent Love” and predict what the passage might be about. 2.Students discuss the questions “What is silent love ” and “Whose love is silent ” Observe the students’ performance in answering the questions, and learn the initial understanding of the father’s love.　
Purpose To activate students’ prior knowledge and encourage them to make educated guesses about the content of the passage, thus preparing for the reading activity.
2.To sort out the story between father and son. Step 3　Fast Reading Students read the passage quickly and answer the question “What is the father’s love like according to the writer ” Step 4　Careful Reading 1.Students read the passage quickly and identify specific elements such as the name of the film, characters in the film, and a touching moment. 2.Students read for the elements and tick off the ones they find in the passage. According to the answers given by the students to determine if students have grasped the content of the passage.
Purpose To assess students’ understanding of the main idea of the text.To encourage detailed analysis and pay attention to specific details within the text, enhancing their comprehension and retention.
3.To evaluate the father’s love and discuss paternal love. Step 5　Post-reading 1.Students reflect on how they would feel if they were the son and discuss whether they would take over the father’s position. 2.Students consider emotions such as being unhappy, lonely or sad, missing the father, or needing company. 3.Complete the notes with the words from the passage. 4.Think and share:Do you want to watch the film after reading the review Why or why not Step 6　Group Work 1.Students discuss whether their fathers’ love is silent or open and list some actions as examples. 2.Students prepare to present their views on the sentences “Fathers’ love may be silent. But like a mountain, it is always there.” Step 7　Language Points(详见课件资源) Step 8　Exercise Observe whether students can accurately use the target language in group discussions and grasp the internalisation of what they have learned.
Purpose This activity belongs to the output stage after reading, so that students can use the information obtained from reading to make oral expressions.
Homework Required: Read the passage loudly and correctly, and pay attention to the important words and expressions. Optional: Make a film poster for the father and the son based on the elements listed in Activity 3 on page 50.
