Observing words, why do they have different pronunciations of's'
-s和-es在的发音与它们后面的字母或字母组合有关。
s的发音:
当s在元音或浊辅音后时,通常读作/z/。
如:dog/d ɡ/ → dogs/d ɡz/,bed/bed/ →beds/bedz/
当s在清辅音(如/p/, /t/, /k/, /f/等)后面时,读作/s/。
如:walk/w k/ → walks/w ks/,map/m p/→ maps/m ps/
当s在/t/后时,与/t/一起读作/ts/。如:sports/sp ts/
当s在/d/后时,与/d/一起读作/dz/。如:birds/b dz/
【总结】
2. es的发音:
以s,sh,ch,x结尾的词在词尾加-es时,读作/ z/。
如:bus/b s/ → buses/ b s z/
match/m t /→ matches/m t z/
以“辅音字母+y”结尾的单词,复数es的发音也为/iz/。但以“元音字母+y”结尾的单词,不适用于此规则(如boy/b /→boys/b z/)。
如:library/ la br ri/→libraries/ la br riz/

What is “stressed syllable”
(单词)音节:是元音音素和辅音音素构成的发音单位。一个音节通常由一个元音音素加上一个或几个辅音音素构成,有一个元音音素就构成一个音节。音节也是词的构成单位,单词按音节节划分为:单音节词(一个音节)、双音节词(两个音节)和多音节词(三个或三个以上音节)。如:take 拿,ta/ble桌子,po/ta/to马铃薯,po/pu/la/tion 人口。

Word stress(单词重音)
(单词)重音、重读:英语的每个词,至少有一个音节读得特别重而清楚,而其他的音节则轻而含糊。 读得重而清楚的音节,叫做单词重音(其前标注重音符号'),又叫 重读音节 。 读得轻而含糊的音节,叫做非重读音节或轻读音节。
1. 单音节词全部重读yes/jes/
2. 双音节词的重音一般落在第一个音节上.如:happy/ h pi/
3. 少数双音节词的重音在第二个音节上.如:july/d la /。少数三音节词的重音在第二个音节上.如:tomato/t mɑ t /
4. 有的双音节词和多音节词有两个重音,一个是主重音,一个是次重音.次重音用“ ”表示,标在次重音的左下方.
