一、-ing形式作状语时的形式
-ing作状语时有时态和语态的变化,现以do为例介绍一下其形式:
主动形式 被动形式 时态意义 语态意义
一般式 doing being done 分词所表示的动作与谓语动词所表示的动作(几乎)同时发生 主动形式表示构成分词的动词与句子主语之间是逻辑上的主谓关系;被动形式表示构成分词的动词与句子主语之间是逻辑上的动宾关系

二、-ing形式作状语时的句法功能
-ing形式作状语时,可以表示原因、条件、让步、时间、结果、方式和伴随状况,作方式状语和伴随状语时,可以变为并列分句,作其他状语时,可以变为相应的状语从句。

让步 Admitting what she has said,I still think that she hasn’t tried her best.(=Although I admit what she has said,I still think that she hasn’t tried her best.) 我尽管承认她所说的话,但仍然认为她没有尽她最大的努力。
时间 Hearing the news,they immediately set off for Shanghai.(=When they heard the news,they immediately set off for Shanghai.) 听到这个消息,他们立即出发到上海去了。
结果 The old scientist died all of a sudden,leaving the project unfinished.(=The old scientist died all of a sudden so that he left the project unfinished.) 那位老科学家突然去世了,留下了未完成的项目。
方式 Please answer the question using another way.(=Please answer the question and use another way.) 请用另一种方式回答这个问题。
伴随 I stood there,waiting for her.(=I stood there and waited for her.) 我站在那儿等她。
[名师指津] -ing形式作结果状语,是随着谓语动词的发生而产生的自然结果,其逻辑主语往往是前面整个句子所描述的内容,前面有时候可以加thus。而不定式作结果状语时常表示出乎意料的结果,有时前面可以加only。试比较:
He was caught in the rain,thus making himself catch a cold.
他淋了雨后就感冒了。
I hurried to school,only to find it was Sunday.
我匆忙赶到学校,结果发现是星期天。
三、-ing形式作状语时的注意事项
1.-ing形式的否定式:not+doing;not having+done
Not knowing this,he didn’t come.
他不知道这件事,所以没来。
Not having made full preparations,we put off the sports meeting.
因为没有做好充分的准备,我们把运动会延期了。
2.-ing形式作状语时,可根据需要在其前面加上一些词或短语,表示特殊含义,常用的连词有:when,while,after,before,since,once,unless,as if,even if,though等。“从属连词+现在分词”可以视为状语从句的省略。
While (he was) waiting for the bus,he met Mary.
等公共汽车时,他遇到了玛丽。
After studying agriculture, medicine, and fisheries in college, John went back to observing nature and asking questions.(2023·新高考Ⅰ卷)

3.独立主格结构
-ing形式作状语,有时它可以有自己独立的主语,这种结构称为独立主格结构,通常用来表示伴随的动作或情况,也可以表示时间、原因或条件。
The trees are extremely tall,some measuring over 90 metres.
那些树非常高,其中一些测量为90多米。
The weather being fine,we went out for a walk.

4.-ing形式作评注性状语
有些-ing形式在句中没有逻辑主语,它们往往作为句子的评注性状语来修饰整个句子,表明说话者的态度、观点等。例如:generally speaking“一般来说”, judging by/from...“从……判断”,taking everything into consideration“从全盘考虑”。
Judging from his behaviour,he must be mad.
从他的行为来判断,他一定是疯了。

一、-ing形式作状语时的形式
-ing作状语时有时态和语态的变化,现以do为例介绍一下其形式:

二、-ing形式作状语时的句法功能
-ing形式作状语时,可以表示原因、条件、让步、时间、结果、方式和伴随状况,作方式状语和伴随状语时,可以变为并列分句,作其他状语时,可以变为相应的状语从句。

[名师指津] -ing形式作结果状语,是随着谓语动词的发生而产生的自然结果,其逻辑主语往往是前面整个句子所描述的内容,前面有时候可以加thus。而不定式作结果状语时常表示出乎意料的结果,有时前面可以加only。试比较:
He was caught in the rain,thus making himself catch a cold.
他淋了雨后就感冒了。
I hurried to school,only to find it was Sunday.
我匆忙赶到学校,结果发现是星期天。
三、-ing形式作状语时的注意事项
1.-ing形式的否定式:not+doing;not having+done
Not knowing this,he didn’t come.
他不知道这件事,所以没来。
Not having made full preparations,we put off the sports meeting.
因为没有做好充分的准备,我们把运动会延期了。
2.-ing形式作状语时,可根据需要在其前面加上一些词或短语,表示特殊含义,常用的连词有:when,while,after,before,since,once,unless,as if,even if,though等。“从属连词+现在分词”可以视为状语从句的省略。
While (he was) waiting for the bus,he met Mary.
等公共汽车时,他遇到了玛丽。
After studying agriculture, medicine, and fisheries in college, John went back to observing nature and asking questions.(2023·新高考Ⅰ卷)

3.独立主格结构
-ing形式作状语,有时它可以有自己独立的主语,这种结构称为独立主格结构,通常用来表示伴随的动作或情况,也可以表示时间、原因或条件。
The trees are extremely tall,some measuring over 90 metres.
那些树非常高,其中一些测量为90多米。
The weather being fine,we went out for a walk.
由于天气好,我们去散步了。
4.-ing形式作评注性状语
有些-ing形式在句中没有逻辑主语,它们往往作为句子的评注性状语来修饰整个句子,表明说话者的态度、观点等。例如:generally speaking“一般来说”, judging by/from...“从……判断”,taking everything into consideration“从全盘考虑”。
Judging from his behaviour,he must be mad.
从他的行为来判断,他一定是疯了。
