Section B　What can you learn from different subjects
第一课时(1a-1d)
Study of the Text　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
What: The content is the reading part of Section B. 1a talks about the class timetable today. The exercises in 1c-1d are based on the texts of 1b. Students are asked to underline the subjects mentioned in the texts in 1b. 1c asks students to write the characters' favourite subjects and the reasons. 1d is a Q & A exercise.
Why: There are two texts in this lesson, the first of which is Mike's introduction to his lessons, his favourite subject and the reasons. The second text is Wu Binbin's introduction to his lessons, his favourite subject and the reason. Students are expected to acquire and sort out key information through reading, and accumulate sentence patterns about introducing school subjects in preparation for the next writing session.
How: Both texts introduce the school's curriculum, personal preferences and reasons. The logic is clear, and the structure, vocabulary and grammar are relatively simple. The language is close to life and easy to imitate. Students should pay attention to the expression in the third person.

Purpose To create situations and introduce the topic so that students can relate to their daily lives and have something to say. Broaden their cultural horizons to let them understand the differences between China and foreign countries.
2.To find out Mike's and Binbin's fa-vourite subjects and the reasons. Step 3　Careful reading 1.Work on 1c. Read again and complete the table. ◎Key: Mike Davis: Music; Because the class is fun and they learn a lot of new songs. Wu Binbin: Maths; Because he is good with numbers. 2.Finish 1d. Read again and answer the questions. ◎Key: (1)They both have maths, history, English, IT and PE. (2)He likes music best. Music makes him feel happy and he thinks it is fun and interesting. Purpose To guide students to further understand and sort out the content of the text.
Homework Required: Learn about the curriculum of middle schools in other countries, such as Japan, Russia and the United States, and understand the cultural differences of the curriculum. Optional: Read Bacon's Of Studies after class to experience the charm of different subjects.

What: This lesson is the writing part of Section B. 2a is a mind map that asks students to introduce their subjects, their teachers and their future jobs. 2b asks students to write a message based on 2a and add more information.3a asks students to discuss the subjects they learn each week and say one thing they like about each subject. 3b requires students to work in groups to design their own weekly schedule. 3c asks students to integrate the content from 3a and 3b to introduce their own schedule. The key phrases of the writing can be found in the previous reading.
Why: Through independent thinking and group activities, students design their own schedule, list the different subjects, and introduce the design process and the reasons why they like different subjects. A range of activities help to develop students' skills in thinking, collaboration and presentation, and inspire their love for learning various subjects.
How: These activities are close to daily school life and stimulate students' interest. Students work in groups, take turns to come up with different subjects and the reasons why they like them, design a schedule, and select a few people to present. In the introduction, some sentence patterns can be found in 1b. The words and grammar are relatively simple, and students should pay attention to the correct use of conjunctions.

Write a message using your information and post it on the board. Then share your message. Students' ability to grasp and express key sentence patterns and vocabulary is judged by their performance in personal sharing.
Purpose To guide students to apply what they have learned in real life.
2.To say one thing students like about each subject. Step 2　Lead-in Create a situation: Help the teacher design a class schedule. The school's administrative teacher is working on the next term's class schedule these days, but he has to take a day off. So do you want to help him design the next term's class schedule But how do you do it Step 3　Work on 3a Talk about the subjects you learn every week. Say one thing you like about each subject. e.g. —Biology teaches us about living things and how our bodies work. —Chinese is our language. It helps us talk to family and friends. We can understand our culture better. —Maths helps us solve problems and think logically. It's very useful. —English is used everywhere. English helps us talk to people from other countries and learn more online. —History helps us understand the past. We learn from history to make better choices in the future. —Geography helps us learn about the countries, the climates, and the environment of the world. —Music is fun and helps us feel happy. We learn about different types of music and how to play instruments. It's good for our brains. —Art lets us be creative and express ourselves. It is fun and teaches us about different cultures. —PE keeps us healthy and teaches us teamwork and sports skills. —IT helps us understand computers and technology. It is important in many jobs. Find out what subjects students mention and why they like them, and judge their mas-tery of the target lan-guage of the unit.
Purpose To introduce the topic and create situations. The content is close to students' daily life, so they have something to say.
3.To make students' own class schedule. Step 4　Work on 3b Fill in the class schedule. Work in groups of five, and each student finishes one day's class schedule with different subjects. Observe how well stu-dents work in groups and help students who are not active to get involved.
Purpose To let students learn to work together and review the key words in this unit.
4.To introduce stu-dents' own class schedule and explain why they make it this way. Step 5　Presentation 1.Introduce your group's timetable to the class. Say why you make it this way. 2.Learn the structure of the presentation: introduction—class timetable—reasons. 3.Finish your own class timetable. 4.Share your timetable and get evaluation from yourself, your classmates and your teacher. Observe students' expres-sion skills, and give help and encourage-ment. Self-evaluation and mutual evaluation are carried out from various aspects such as language, pronunciation, and self-confidence.
Purpose To guide students to self-examine, self-correct and improve their presentation. To improve students' presentation skills and self-confidence and inspire students to love learning every subject.
Homework Required: Ask students at other schools about their pare theirs with yours and write a summary. Try to use the conjunctions and, but, and because.
