I found a special app on my cellphone after I turned 15 and I fell in love with it immediately.
The app is a social media platform where people share snippets (片段) of their lives and content they consider worth sharing, and it’s also a space to communicate with others. While all those are obviously great things, it comes with many negative aspects. Number 1 on the list of problems is the scrolling (滚屏) addiction. The Internet is overflowing with content and our “Far You” page is an unending supplier of it. What I’ve come to learn through my own experience is that after some time we become so used to scrolling that it becomes a reflex action (反射动作) for us to do so whenever we’re bored.
Before I used the app, I really loved writing and reading books. However, after I used it, everything changed for me. All I wanted to do was to be on my phone. Scrolling was just making me feel tired and lazy and my creativity was lost. I wasn’t feeling motivated enough to get myself out of the bad cycle I’d fallen into.
Finally, I realized that I was stuck. I knew I needed to get out of it. It didn’t just happen overnight though. It took me a few weeks to finally stop using the app. Now I can concentrate on reading and writing again. I’m glad I’ve made the right decision.
I know many young people are struggling now just like I used to. If you think using social media platforms is negatively affecting your life, then take action to quit it. I’ve managed to do that. You can do it, too.
4.What does the author think is the biggest problem of using the app

A.To tell her story of using social media.
B.To show how she began to write again.

In Aleksandra’s studio in Haikou, the capital of Hainan, an oil painting of St. Basil’s Cathedral hangs beside a portrait (肖像) capturing the grace of a woman from the Li ethnic group, symbolizing two distinct aspects of the artist’s life.
Raised in a family of artists, the 24-year-old Russian woman developed a profound love for painting from an early age. Six years ago, she relocated to Hainan and set up her studio there. Her fascination with Chinese culture was bolstered when she was 10 years old. “I picked up the language through the internet, books and TV. I simply adore Chinese culture.” In 2018, driven by her passion, Aleksandra journeyed to Hainan to study, where she was captured by the island’s peaceful natural beauty and unhurried pace of life.
“It’s an incredibly beautiful place, and the people are kind, charming and authentically simple,” she reflects. “Life unfolds at a leisurely pace, allowing them to harmonize with nature.” Living in Hainan enables her to immerse herself in nature and humanity, two beloved themes in her artwork. The local people and culture have become essential to her life as she and her husband, whom she met on the island. have ventured (冒险) through its landscapes together.
“We ventured into the heart of Hainan. It was during these journeys that I first encountered the Li people,” she recalls. The Li brocade (织锦) has left a lasting impact on her. This traditional textile of the Li ethnic group in Hainan is regarded as a “living fossil” of the textile industry, boasting a history of over 3,000 years. “When you witness a woman weaving this brocade, she is narrating a tale passed down through generations, such as that of Dalishen, the God of Strength, watching over us. It not only inspires me but also empowers me to create,” she says.

Through life’s journey, we inevitably encounter unpleasant emotions —anxiety, envy, fear, and frustration —that can cast a dark shadow over our mind. Many of us often shy away from these feelings, from adopting a sense of denial to turning to food or work as a distraction.
We understand that constant joy is an unattainable goal. Yet, we often struggle with emotions that are less than positive. This disgust to negativity is rooted in our natural tendency to avoid or suppress (抑制) such feelings. These negat ve emotional states can create extra stress in your body and your mind, which is uncomfortable and can also lead to health issues if the stress becomes chronic or overwhelming. This in-built programming, inherited from our ancestors, directs us to avoid discomfort at all costs.
However, suppressing our emotions often leads to unforeseen consequences. As Dr. Elena Touroni, a consultant psychologist of The Chelsea Psychology Clinic, puts it, “When we bury our emotions, they inevitably end up reappearing elsewhere further down the line, causing numerous issues and symptoms, including headaches and anxiety.”
Burying our unfavorable emotions not only influences our well-being but also keeps us from experiencing the benefits that embracing these emotions can bring. Indeed, recognizing and confronting uncomfortable feelings, rather than dismissing or suppressing them, is a sign of emotional health. Negative emotions are there to alert us that something needs to change and to motivate us to make that change. For example, anger and anxiety show that something needs to change and that perhaps our well-being has been threatened; fear is an appeal to increase your level of safety.
Emotions, both positive and negative, play a vital role in our human experience. As Elena says, “Without negative emotions, we would struggle to know our boundaries, how to keep ourselves safe and what hurts us or makes us happy. They can guide us toward making decisions that serve us in the long term.”
12.Why do people often try to avoid negative emotions
A.Humans are biologically programmed.
B.People believe constant joy is achievable.
C.Negative emotions are impossible to control.
D.The benefits of negative emotions are neglected.
13.According to Dr. Elena Touroni, what might happen when we bury our emotions
A.They magically disappear over time. B.They eventually cause physical problems.
C.They make us stronger and more adaptable. D.They transform into positive emotions.
14.Why are negative emotions important in our human experience
A.They help us avoid difficulties. B.They drive us to take action.
C.They suppress the need to change. D.They indicate excellent mental health.
15.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Embracing unpleasant feelings B.Holding back mental challenges
C.The healing power of emotions D.Solutions to emotional barriers

Getting work done, meeting deadlines, and being productive 100% of the time are difficult for everyone. It’s even harder if you struggle with time management. 16 You can use them to get things done more efficiently.
17 Write down everything you would like to accomplish. Review your list and prioritize what absolutely bas to get done that week, such as a task with a near deadline. Setting specific goals helps keep you motivated and will make you feel extra accomplished when you’ve achieved everything you set out to do.
Create a daily schedule to organize tasks. 18 Map out exactly how you want to use your time each day, leaving nothing out of your schedule. Include how much time you would like to spend on each task. You may not follow your schedule exactly, as life can sometimes surprise you with how long a task will take. A schedule is a great guideline for keeping you on track to reach your weekly goals though.
Concentrate on one task at a time. It’s hard to get things done when you’re doing too many things at once. As you cross things off your to-do list, keep your mind focused on the task at hand. Shut out thoughts about your other responsibilities, and avoid going back and forth between unrelated duties. 19
Take short breaks so you don’t burn out. You can’t work or be productive 24 hours a day. Schedule breaks throughout your day to give yourself some time to rest and relax. 20 Try to do something unrelated to your task during your break, like drawing a picture, playing the guitar, or playing a game of chess on your phone!
A.Set clear and measurable weekly goals.
B.Avoid giving each task your full attention.
C.Use a calendar or a piece of paper for scheduling.
D.At the start of a task, promise yourself a reward at the end of it.
E.It’s much more efficient to deal with one responsibility at a time.
F.A break lets you recharge and return to work with a fresh perspective.
G.Luckily, there are several ways to improve your time management skills.

I often saw her on the streets during the evening, but she was always by herself. She appeared weak and I always wanted to help her, but after hearing what my neighbors had said about her, I wasn’t sure whether I should.
One day, when I was on my way to the supermarket, our paths crossed. I was walking past her and overheard her singing a tune. It immediately drew my attention because my parents used to sing the same song with me. I began to sing along with her, and she smiled at me for the first time. But when I smiled back, she quickly hurried her pace and went home.
She seemed very different to me that day. I refused to trust my neighbors’ claims that she had cut herself off from the rest of society because she was insane, so the next day, I knocked on her door. Mrs Davis was home, and instead of letting me in, she just looked at me silently through the window. I noticed her staring at me and was about to walk to the window when she quickly closed the curtains.
The next day, I revisited her house. “Hello, I brought you something,” I called out to her. “It’s the record of the music you were singing yesterday.”
