一、Teaching Objectives 1. Language knowledge objectives Students will be able to master the key words and phrases such as "outgoing", "shy", "funny", "serious", "quiet", "from time to time", and "used to do sth.". Students will understand and be able to use the structure "used to" to describe people's past states or habits. 2. Language skills objectives Through the picture-filling activity in 1a, students can improve their ability to observe and describe the changes of people's appearance and personality. By doing the listening exercise in 1b, students can enhance their listening comprehension skills and the ability to catch key information related to "used to". During the oral practice in 1c, students can practice using the "used to" structure to express their own or others' past experiences fluently in pairs or groups. 3. Emotional attitudes and values objectives Help students realize the changes in themselves and others over time, and develop a positive attitude towards growth and change. Encourage students to bravely share their past and present, and enhance their confidence and communication skills. 二、Teaching Key Points and Difficult Points (一)Teaching Key Points 1. Master the key words and phrases related to appearance and personality. 2. Understand and correctly use the "used to" structure to describe past states or habits. (二)Teaching Difficult Points 1. Distinguish the usage of "used to" and the present tense when describing past and present situations. 2. Enable students to freely and accurately express their thoughts using the "used to" structure in oral communication. 三、Teaching Methods 1. Task-based teaching method: Design various tasks such as picture-filling, listening comprehension, and oral communication to help students achieve the teaching objectives step by step. 2. Communicative teaching method: Encourage students to communicate and interact with each other in pairs or groups to improve their language application ability. 3. Audio-visual teaching method: Use pictures, audio materials and multimedia courseware to stimulate students' interest and make the teaching content more intuitive and vivid. 四、Teaching Procedures (一)Warming-up (5 minutes) 1. Show a short video about a person's growth journey, including changes in appearance and personality from childhood to adulthood. 2. Ask students to share their feelings after watching the video and lead them to think about the changes in themselves and others. (二)Presentation (10 minutes) 1. Present the key words Show some pictures of people with different appearances and personalities on the PPT, such as a short person, a tall person, an outgoing person, and a shy person. Present the words "outgoing", "shy", "funny", "serious", "quiet", etc. and ask students to read them aloud and try to remember their meanings. 2. Introduce the "used to" structure Point to the pictures of people's past and present and say sentences like "He used to be short. Now he is tall." and "She used to be shy. Now she is outgoing." Explain the meaning and usage of "used to" and emphasize that it is used to describe past states or habits that are different from the present. (三)Practice 1a (8 minutes) 1. Show the pictures in 1a on the PPT and explain the task to students: They need to fill in the blanks with the given words to describe the people's past and present appearances. 2. Students work individually to complete the task. 3. Invite several students to share their answers and explain their reasoning. (四)Listening 1b (8 minutes) 1. Before listening, preview the questions and options in 1b with students and predict the possible content. 2. Play the audio recording for the first time. Students listen carefully and try to catch the key information. 3. Play the audio recording for the second time. Students complete the exercises in 1b. 4. Check the answers together and play the audio recording again if necessary for students to correct their mistakes. (五)Oral Practice 1c (12 minutes) 1. Divide students into pairs or groups. 2. Present some sample sentences and prompts on the PPT to help students start the conversation. For example: "I used to have short hair. Now I have long hair." 3. Students take turns to talk about their past and present using the "used to" structure. Encourage them to ask and answer questions, and share their experiences. 4. Invite several pairs or groups to present their conversations to the class. (六)Summary and Homework (2 minutes) 1. Summarize the key points of this lesson, including the key words, phrases, and the "used to" structure. 2. Assign homework: Ask students to write a short composition about their own or a friend's past and present changes using the "used to" structure.
