High school began with meeting new friends, which was the most exciting part of that period. However, I noticed the difference with middle school right away since students around me were trying their best to get good grades. As for me, I saw these years as our last opportunity to spend time together as a group.
It was surprising for me to find out that my friends, including my best friend, were no longer willing to meet very often after school. This made me realize that perhaps I failed to realize the true meaning of these final years. I should state that it became especially clear after I talked to my best friend. He told me that he was really worried because I seemed to have no plan when it came to preparing for college. To be completely honest, he was right.
Luckily, my best friend was wise and able to explain his point of view to me. Also, he offered to spend time studying with me and getting me ready for the test to make sure I did not miss out on anything meaningful from the textbook. This was surprising for me since I was confident that activities like reading textbooks could not be enjoyable. I was wrong, and this challenge taught me that having fun in high school does not just mean going to parties or spending time in-cafes. Instead, you can have an enjoyable experience that will also be good for your future.
I am glad that I was able to learn from this situation. After sometime had passed, I understood and was able to change my behavior and attitude toward studying in high school just in time. Now, I am studying harder to get more knowledge and try to understand which subjects I am most interested into find out what I want to study in the future.

A.Being confident is helpful to get great grades.

C.High school students should spend time on relaxing activities.
D.High school students should do activities that are good for their future.
27.What does the author want to share in the text
A.His high school challenges. B.His favorite subject.
C.His future goals. D.His friendship.
C
High school, for most teenagers, is a space where new adventures and challenges begin. I clearly remember my first day of high school. As I entered the school gate, I was greeted by a crowd of students. The hallways were filled with talking and laughter. It was a lot to handle, and I felt like a tiny fish in a vast ocean. I held my schedule tightly, trying to find the right classroom. My heart raced as I was scared of getting lost.
My first class was English, and as I walked in, I spotted familiar faces from my previous school. I breathed a sigh of relief as I took my seat, surrounded by friendly smiles. My English teacher, Mrs. Johnson, introduced herself and made everyone feel comfortable. She explained what we would be studying during the semester and encouraged us to share our thoughts and ideas. The next class was mathematics, which happened to be my weakest subject. I felt a tight feeling in my stomach as I entered the classroom, but my maths teacher, Mr. Smith, turned out to be very patient. He promised us that we would learn and improve together. His words of support made me feel more relaxed, and I began to believe that I could overcome my maths struggles.
During lunchtime, I sat with a group of students who quickly became my friends. We shared stories, and talked about our expectations for high school. It was during this time that I realized that high school wasn’t just about academics (学术); it was also about building friendships and making lasting memories.
The rest of the day flew by with a variety of classes, faces, and experiences. My first day of high school was filled with moments of anxiety, joy, and the promise of new beginnings.
28.Why did the author feel like a tiny fish in a vast ocean at first
A.Because of excitement and curiosity.
B.Because of the school’s welcoming atmosphere.
C.Because of fear of the unfamiliar environment
D.Because of good preparations for the new school.
29.Which words can best describe the English teacher
A.Outgoing and friendly. B.Generous and powerful.
C.Responsible and patient. D.Encouraging and supportive.
30.How did the author feel when entering the maths class
A.Excited. B.Anxious. C.Relaxed. D.Confident.
31.What did the author realize during lunchtime
A.High school only focused on academics.
B.High school was an extremely challenging place.
C.High school was full of old friends and classmates.
D.High school was also about wonderful social experiences
D
After entering high school, you may find there are many clubs at your school. You may think you’re too busy to join one. But as a former high school student, I can tell you joining a school club can greatly profit you.
Your old friends may have left you after entering high school. And it means you need to meet new people. Joining a club allows you to talk with others and find those who have similar interests as you. Based on my experience, I have met some of my best friends from club activities, which opened up many new doors for me.
Another really nice thing about joining a club is that it looks really good on college applications. Trying new things is something that looks really good on any application. Outgoing is considered a very good quality which shows that you are determined and ready to put yourself out there and best of all try new things. Furthermore, it can help you develop skills that can serve you during future college interviews.
Besides, joining a club can make students use their free time wisely. Most teens go to schools, then go back home and spend the rest of the day in front of a screen. Teens are also very likely to fall into the wrong crowd, which could lead to some bad results. Clubs are good places to spend time with good people to fall back on.
The most important reason why you should join a club is the long-term benefits ( 益 处 ) it brings. The classroom isn’t the only learning environment in a school. The skills you learn in clubs are necessary ones that can be used in everyday life, which I think is the final goal of joining a club. Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, making the most of time, and being organized are those you will meet every single day of your life, but you can learn all of them in clubs.
So if you haven’t joined a school club yet, you know what you should do now.
32.Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “profit”in paragraph 1
A.Cheer up. B.Go against. C.Make use of. D.Be good for.
33.What do colleges think highly of according to the text
A.The number of clubs you have joined. B.The strong relationships you have built.
C.The bright personality you have developed. D.The similar interests you share with other students.
34.What is the best title for the text
A.Why Should You Join a Club B.What Club Should You Join
C.How Can You Join a Club You Like D.Should You Join a Second Club

A.Health. B.School life. C.Culture. D.Social work.

36.根据上文“Looking back, I can’t remember many things on my first day at school in Melbourne.(回想起来,在墨尔本上学的第一天,我已经不记得很多事情了)”以及后文“He was the international student coordinator (协调员). And also Selena, an Australian-Vietnamese friend who took me on a school tour.(他是国际学生协调员。还有Selena,一位澳大利亚裔越南朋友,她带我参观了学校)”可知,本句与上文构成转折关系,突出了让作者印象深刻的事情。上文中的remember与E项中的remember为原词复现关系。此外,下文中的He was the international student coordinator是对E项的进一步解释说明,该句中的He指代E项中的Mr. Chow。E选项“但我记得的是周先生对我的欢迎”符合语境,故选E。

38.根据后文“I couldn’t understand my teachers and communicating in English was a huge problem.(我听不懂老师的话,用英语交流是个大问题)”可知,本句主要说明了语言不通给作者带来的麻烦,故C选项“我不得不不停地查字典”符合语境。故选C。
39.根据上文“I developed the habit of always asking questions.(我养成了总是问问题的习惯)”可知,本句与上文为语义上的顺承关系,指出爱问问题的学习习惯给作者带来的好处。G项中的This指代上文中的the habit of always asking questions。G选项“这不仅提高了我的学习成绩,也使我的老师对我的评价更高”符合语境。故选G。
40.根据上文“There were many ups and downs in my two years of high school in Melbourne.(我在墨尔本读高中的两年经历了很多起起落落)”以及后文“I couldn’t be prouder of what I achieved and how much I grew as a person.(我为自己取得的成就和成长感到无比自豪)”可知,本句与上文为转折关系,指出虽然在墨尔本的两年高中生活有许多起起伏伏,但是无疑是自己最好的经历。上文中的ups and downs与D项中的the best experience形成对比。D选项“但毫无疑问,这是我有过的最好的经历”符合语境。故选D。
