Analyses of teaching materials What:This topic is from Unit 1 of Book 3.The reading chapter in the reading and thinking section of this unit is titled“Why do we celebrate festivals”and explores why people celebrate holidays,traces the roots of the phenomenon of celebrating holidays around the world,and talks about the heritage and development of holidays Why:This passage is a typical argumentative essay and is divided into five paragraphs:1.Festivals are a universal cultural phenomenon around this world. 2.Harvest festivals existing in every culture as an example.3.The customs of festivals are changing all over the world.4.Festivals are becoming more and more commercialized.5.Festivals are an important part of the social life of people around the world.On the basis of summarizing the main idea of the passage,the reader is required to carefully study,refine and infer the author's deeper interpretation and views on this issue hidden between the lines,and create emotional resonance and conceptual collision with them. How:This article discusses the connotation and importance of festivals in today's society from the perspective of space and time.Spatially,although the names and forms of celebration of festivals vary around the world,the essence of festivals is often very similar,because they bring together the most simple and sincere emotions of human beings and enshrine their best wishes and sentiments. In time,although with the development of society and science and technology, the customs of festival celebrations are constantly changing or gradually commercialized,but the connotation of the festival endures,and can be continued and inherited in the long history of mankind.Secondly,the article also provides two illustrations,one related to the Mid-Autumn Festival,in which moon cakes,lanterns and tea under the moonlight create a scene of enjoying the moon;the other is related to Mother's Day,in which gifts,carnations and cards create a warm atmosphere of gratitude.These provide rich perspectives for students to explore the origins,customs,and meanings of the festival,and they also provide multiple ways for students to gain a deeper understanding of the text.
Analysis of Students What students know: Students in Grade two have learned English for years,they are highly motivated to learn English,have a high level of enthusiasm for learning,have a preliminary understanding of the topic of holidays and celebrations,and they can get some detailed information in the text.Based on their previous knowledge and experience,they can quickly get involved in the lesson What students will know: They will have many opportunities to express their ideas and feelings.What's more,they will learn more reading skills to improve the efficiency of solving problems.Therefore,this lesson aims to guide students to quickly and accurately find the topic sentences,sort out,analyze and refine the spiritual connotations of different countries and national holidays,understand the common emotions and spiritual pursuits of people around the world,and improve their reading level in
this lesson in conjunction with the characteristics of the text.

Justification:To give students a few seconds to get ready for the class.Using several questions to arouse students'interest and activate their existing knowledge to prepare for the new unit.
Pre- Reading (1).I will play a video and let Ss answer the following questions: 1.What festivals do you celebrate with your family each year 2.Why do you think people celebrate different festivals (2).Make prediction about the text content. Students need to watch the video,then think the questions deeply and answer them.
Justification:Guide students to achieve learning ability by employing reading skill of prediction to predict the content of the passage.
Skimming and scanning (1).Ask students read the text quickly and underline the topic sentence and key words of each paragraph. (2).Ask the students to read paragraph 1&5 and find the two key words repeated in these paragraphs. (1).Students will read the text quickly and underline the topic sentence and key words of each paragraph in certain minutes by skimming and scanning. Justification:Guide students to achieve learning ability by employing reading skill of skimming for main idea.At the same time,students are able to identify the main idea of each paragraph with the help of the topic sentence
