The magical world of The Little Prince brought to life!
About the exhibition
French visual artist Arnaud Nazare-Aga has worked with Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, and together they have designed a unique touring art exhibition of sculptures inspired by the original watercolor illustrations of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s book, The Little Prince, as well as photos, manuscripts (手稿) and drawings.
The exhibition will be presented for the very first time in Auckland from 1st June to 25th June, 2023 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the publication of The Little Prince.

They are displayed in the dark to be discovered by the senses of touch and hearing. All the magic, dreams and poetry of Saint-Exupery’s beloved book will thus be revealed in a new way never imagined before.

Finally, don’t forget to stop off on your way out at the gift shop right next to the entrance and pick up some Little Prince memorabilia to remember your visit

I didn’t go to Santiago, Chile to-look for friendship. In fact, Chile was not even on my wish list.
A mid-life crisis woman, I got a chance to study abroad. I only wanted to learn about global business, taste South American cuisine, and check “study abroad” off my wish list.
On the fifth day, I joined a group for a neighborhood work project aided by the anti-poverty (扶贫) organization. Our tasks were to build a water tower and paint the community center. Upon arrival, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was like a scene out of a horrible film. That moment redefined poverty for me because I had never seen such terrible living conditions. As advised, I showed no signs of the emotional battle going on inside me.
Just as I was about to start work on painting, a request came through for a few volunteers to help Nadia, a local resident who volunteered to cook for us. I raised my hand to help because I wanted to spend time with the people of the neighborhood despite my shortage of Spanish speaking skills. Nadia had a sincere smile but not overly friendly. Even without speaking each other’s language, we started to learn about one another. We chatted about our children, our upbringing, shared pictures of our family, struggled to instruct each other to communicate in the other’s language, and laughed many times.
After we fed everybody and the dishes were washed, my day was over. But I found myself hesitant to leave. It was as if I had known her my entire life. I had not predicted the unselfishness of heart I would encounter, and it was moving.
As we were waiting for the car to pick us up, Nadia showed me her plants that are well-maintained. I could see that despite the hard conditions she was passionate about life. She made me long to be a stronger person. She showed me that poverty was external, but happiness was internal. I was seeking to give 100 percent for a well-intentioned cause, but I left receiving 200 percent from her.
39. What was the author’s initial purpose of going to Chile
A. To fulfill the desire to study abroad.
B. To find new friends while traveling.
C. To participate in an anti-poverty project.
D. To gain a graduate certificate in business.
40. What did the author do after seeing the living conditions in the neighborhood
A. She comforted other volunteers.
B. She decided to relieve the poverty.
C. She kept her emotions well hidden.
D. She refused to continue the present task.
41. Why did the author volunteer to work with Nadia
A. She felt very sympathetic toward Nadia.
B. She longed to interact with the local residents.
C. She wanted to improve her Spanish speaking skills.
D. She preferred cooking to painting the community center.
42. What did the author learn from Nadia
A. True friends are never apart in heart.
B. Happiness is defined by a positive attitude.
C. Language is not a barrier to great connections.
D. Unselfishness is putting others before ourselves.

Calling vegetables and fruits “ugly” can be a recipe for sales success, according to a new study.
A French supermarket chain made international headlines when it began marketing misshapen produce as “ugly” in 2014. Since then, food stores around the world have launched campaigns to sell “imperfect produce”. Some have been successful, while others haven’t — but until now, researchers hadn’t adequately explained why consumers rejected imperfect produce, or what marketing approach was most likely to whet their appetites.
The researchers conducted seven studies that tested the effects of “ugly” labeling by having participants purchase produce at a farmer’s market and online, and by examining people’s impressions about misshapen foods. Interestingly, they found that consumers expected the imperfect produce to be less tasty and even less nutritious than more traditionally attractive foods.
But it’s not all bad news for unattractive foods. The researchers also found that when the produce is labeled “ugly”, consumer hesitancy disappears — and it’s not because of humor or originality. Calling items “ugly” signals to consumers that the only difference between items is appearance, which makes them aware of their bias (偏见) and significantly increases their willingness to buy the less attractive produce.
“We’re pointing to the source of the rejection,” explains John Meredith, the lead researcher. “It makes people aware of the limited nature of their objection to the unattractive produce and makes it clear to consumers that there are no other problems in the produce other than attractiveness.”
The research also found consumers spent more on the misshapen produce labeled “ugly” instead of “imperfect”. And even though the ugly produce was sold at a 25 percent discount, it turned out to be more profitable for sellers, as the cost of acquiring the ugly produce was lower. However, if the price reduction was too sharp, participants expected the “ugly” foods to be of low quality.
43. What is the new study mainly about
A. Food quality. B. Consumer demand.
C. Marketing approach. D. Bias against appearance.
44. What does the underlined phrase “whet their appetites” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Satisfy their need to eat better. B. Stimulate their desire of buying.
C. Encourage them to risk trying out. D. Raise their concerns about nutrition.
45. Why are people willing to buy ugly-labeled produce without hesitation
A. They are happy to spend less and have more.
B. They are curious about the special shapes of produce.
C. They are attracted by the funny and creative idea of labeling.
D. They are led to believe ugly produce has no quality problems.
46. Which way helps food sellers make more profit according to the study
A. Call the ugly produce “ugly”.
B. Label the ugly produce “imperfect”.
C. Group the produce by its attractiveness.
D. Price the ugly produce at a sharp discount.
D
Lithium (锂) is called “white gold” for good reason. The metal’s value has been growing sharply over the last several years, in a large part because it is an essential part of batteries as well as several key sustainable technologies where energy storage is of huge significance. As electric cars, wind and solar power have grown into major players in the energy industry, lithium has become key to engineering a future free of fossil (化石) fuels.
But acquiring lithium comes at an enormous cost. It often works like this: Water containing lithium is delivered to the surface from underground and mixed with fresh water. The mixture then sits in pools to get rid of water, leaving the rest of its contents behind as brightly colored “mud”. Then heat and chemical reactions are used to get lithium from that, changing it into powder which is then packaged and shipped to buyers around the world.
Any accident that releases mine contents into surrounding communities or the groundwater supply could have unimaginable long-term impacts. To be specific, indigenous (土著的) communities often bear the damage, and political leaders have typically given little weight to their concerns. In Arizona, for example, an expanding lithium mine is threatening the Hualapai Tribe’s cultural and historic sites. Recently, mining lithium and other precious metals has brought about conflict: How do you ensure the availability of materials essential to the future of renewables while protecting those communities’ rights
Mining of the metal is expected to increase dramatically in coming years. Over time, experts say, that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions (排放) by making electric cars more affordable and, therefore, more popular. As environmentally conscious consumers buy electric cars in ever-greater numbers, it’s important to be aware of the dirty process that powers those clean air vehicles.
47. What is the author’s intention of writing Paragraph 1
A. To introduce the background of an event.
B. To explain a complex industrial theory.
C. To describe a noticeable recent tendency.
D. To predict the future of a main technology.
48. Which may cause enormous environmental damage
A. Unexpected material leak. B. Lithium mine expansion.
C. Wrong political decisions. D. Violent chemical reactions.
49. What’s the author’s attitude towards mining lithium
A. Intolerant. B. Uncaring. C. Favorable. D. Objective.
50. What’s the most suitable title for the text
A. High Expense of Lithium Mining
B. Potential Benefit of Using Lithium
C. Bright Future of Renewable Resources
D. Hidden Threat behind Clean Energy

It’s the middle of winter, when daylight is limited and the weather is often miserable. 51 So what can be done to lift our spirits
The shorter days and longer nights can make us feel down, and that can cause us to eat more and exercise less. Some fear loneliness and isolation during the long dark months. Those people who suffer this seasonal mood swing more seriously are described as having seasonal affective disorder — or SAD for short. 52
Jenny Scott-Thompson is one person who was diagnosed with SAD. 53 As well as going outside during daylight hours, this is believed to help anyone who is affected by the winter gloom.
Although having more light is an obvious cure, antidepressants (抗抑郁药) can help those with more severe depression by artificially increasing the amount of serotonin (血清素) in the brain. But this isn’t suitable for everyone. 54 Clinical psychologist Laura Keyes says, “it can be helpful to think about how to adapt your eating and exercise patterns to the change of season.”
55 Writing for the BBC Social website, Esther De La Ford asks “What if we explored what winter has to offer us, instead of grieving those things that it is taking away ” She suggests we use this time for rest, reflection, slowing down, stillness and renewal. Maybe this might stop us longing for summer.
A. Many of us can try to just change our mindset.
B. For some of us, this is when the winter blues set in.
C. As advised, she took an active part in social activities.
D. Accepting winter and thinking positively may energize us.
E. As for the treatment, psychologists recommend more social interaction.
F. It’s a type of depression with a seasonal pattern caused by a lack of light.
G. She was advised to take light therapy, which involved sitting in front of a light box.

My mother influenced me a lot. When I made a mistake, she never turned a blind eye to it. She also helped me develop many good hobbies. In my childhood, reading books was one of my favorite hobbies. Especially during holidays, I often went to the library to borrow books.
One Saturday morning after breakfast, I told my mother that I’d go and borrow one or two books in the local public library. Then, I set out, expecting what wonderful books I’d come across. After cycling there, I was amazed to notice a new children’s book that I had expected for long. The book was from abroad and was beautifully designed.
Eager to go through it, I quickly took the book out of the shelf and hurried to a chair nearby. Once seated, I opened the book and turned pages. Suddenly, a terrible thing happened. Because of my finger’s too much force, one page was torn (撕破) by accident, which produced a clear sound. It made me immediately shocked and anxious. “If the librarians find I have made the book damaged, they may ask me to buy a new one, which can be expensive. And they may angrily blame me for my carelessness,” I thought. Soon, my face turned pale and my heart pounded fast. Just then, I noticed a librarian was walking in the direction of me. “Is she coming for me ” I wondered, with my legs shaking with fear. Afraid she’d notice the broken page, I hurried to close the book.
Finding something wrong with me, the librarian was concerned and asked gently, “Do you feel uncomfortable ” I shook my head, replying, “No, I’m fine. Thank you!” The librarian smiled and then left. When she was out of my sight, I quickly stood up and put the book back. I had no intention of reading other books, so I left the library in a hurry, without borrowing any book.
Upon reaching home, I breathed a/sigh of relief. However, my mother, who was doing housework, stopped.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
