The other day I was doing some shopping and a homeless man, who was untidy and spent most of the time talking to no one, walked toward a group of us at the checkout stand. I overheard him say to the man in front of me, “I don’t want to steal from this store... would you buy me some food ”
The man in front of me pretended not to hear him; it was as if he were not there. I waited patiently for my turn to be questioned, but it never came. So I asked him, “Can I buy you something to eat ” He gladly accepted. The man got a bag and began putting cupcakes in the bag. As my things were being rung up I watched the man put the cupcakes into the bag; 1, 2, 3... He finally stopped and I asked him how many he had got and he replied 6.
The cashier looked at me in surprise and then added them to my order. After I was through, the man was walking around the store; he said he wanted something to drink, too. The cashier seemed to be keeping a close eye on him. I admit I was too, as I didn’t want him to steal anything either! I told the cashier that if he got a drink I’d just pay for it.
In the end, we both ended up leaving the store, but he stood right outside holding the cupcakes and talking to himself. Or maybe he was talking with someone who he thought was there.
This man’s circumstances (处境) made me sad. How many of our homeless also suffer from a mental illness Maybe that’s even what led him to be homeless. Eating out in the United States is not much different than eating out in other parts of the worlds. There are still fast-food chains such as McDonalds and KFC for those hamburgers. However, what makes the restaurants in the US unique is that there is a cultural diversity of restaurants serving food from almost every part of the world. When you arrive in Irvine, and travel around the city, you will find many restaurants of many different cultures, ranging from European, to the Middle East and Asia. So, when you first arrive, there are always restaurants close by that offer the food you prefer.

All you need is to enter the cuisine you want such as “Indian, Sichuan, Sushi, Vegetarian, etc.” In addition, each restaurant on there is also rated and reviewed by some of their past customers. At some restaurants, you can also sign up for the waiting list through the app to economize time!
If you don’t have time to go out and eat, there are food delivery services available. Traditionally, pizza is the most common food for delivery. Some delivery services you can try are DoorDash, UberEats, or Postmates. All you would need to do is just make free account, select the restaurants on their webpage, order from the menu, and enter your address to have the food delivered to your home. They usually have a delivery discount the first time you sign up for an account(账户), so make sure to take advantage of that!

For thousands of years, humans have explored (探索) the Earth. Nowadays, we are exploring space. Astronomers (天文学家) are modern-day explorers. Now, many astronomers are looking for new planets and new places of humans to live in the future. But where do astronomers start looking
First of all, astronomers look for a star. That’s because our own Earth moves around a star the Sun. More importantly, it is the correct distance (距离) from the Sun for heat and light. So when astronomers have found the star, they look at the planets around it. In recent years, astronomers have found nearly 400 new planets with stars. However, many of these planets are either too near to the star or too far away.
However, if the planet is in a good position, astronomers look for three key things: water, air and rock. Water is important because all life needs water. Humans can drink it and they can also grow plants with water. And plants produce air for humans to breathe and food to eat. Rock on a planet is also important. That’s because there is often water under the rock.
After many years of scrutinizing, astronomers have found a planet that is similar to the Earth. It’s Gliese 581g and it’s near a star. The astronomers think it has water and rock and the average (平均的) temperature is between-31℃ and -12℃. That’s cold, but not colder than Antarctica or Arctic Circle, for example, Gliese 581g is bigger than the Earth. A year on Gliese 581g is only 37 Earth days instead of 365. But astronomers do not think there are big differences and some them thing Gliese 581g will be a new Earth. However, Gliese 581g is twenty light years from the Earth.
32.What do astronomers have to find first before starting to look for a new place for humans to have
A.A new planet B.A new star C.Some heat D.Some light
33.What does the rock on a planet tell us
A.We may discover water under it
B.The star is a right position
C.The planet is too near to the Sun
D.There can be air around the rock
34.What does the underlined word “scrutinizing” mean in the last paragraph
A.discussing B.waiting C.traveling D.looking
35.What’s the main idea of the text
A.Gliese 581g is already a new Earth
B.There are planets similar to our Earth
C.Astronomers are looking for a new Earth
D.Water, air and rock are important

The Christmas I will never forget happened when I was 9. I believed in Santa with all my heart. How could I not when I received everything I wished for.
December 1st. Mom would announce, “It’s time.” Hearing those words, we all knew it was time to write our letters to Santa. One day I asked mom why we always wrote our letters on December 1st. She said because so many kids were writing letters to Santa, he needed time to read them and make all the toys the kids wanted. Once our letters were finished, mom would put them in her purse and mail them the next day.
Christmas Eve finally arrived. We were all so excited. We did our Christmas Eve traditions. Daddy read us The Night Before Christmas’ story. Then it was time for sleep. I had such a good feeling about Christmas this year. It was difficult to fall asleep. But sleep finally came and so did Christmas morning. I woke up hearing my brothers yelling. Jimmy came running and jumping on my bed. “Santa’s been here, sister! Let’s open presents!”
We ran down the stairs. Our eyes were glowing like wildfire as we eyed over the presents under the tree. My brothers and I quickly snuggled (依偎) among the packages. We all watched as each person unwrapped a gift. I kept watching as my brothers unwrapped gifts. My dad didn’t hand me any package. “This year you are going to be the last to get your presents because you are the oldest.” he declared. I didn’t think anything of it, so I whispered “OK.”
One by one all of the packages had been opened. There was none left. I couldn’t understand. I had been so good this year. Tears began sliding down my cheeks. I ran up to my room. My mom went up the stairs for me to come back down. Dad wanted to talk to me, sobbing, I slowly made my way back.

67. Dad signed to me to follow him. As we neared the back door, I saw my mom holding a handsome black dog with deep brown eyes. I was frozen like an ice cube. Then I ran to my dad, jumped in his arms and kissed him. My mom approached us and wrapped her loving arms around us, joining in our happy tears of joy. I had never been so happy in all my 9 years as I was at that moment. The dog named Sam was my only gift that year. But I got the best gift.
The dog named Sam was my only gift that year. But I got the best gift. The memory of that Christmas stayed with me all these years. My best friend Sam lived to the old age of 16. I never had children. I am old and weak now and losing my eyesight, but I still have such precious memories of past Christmas with my family. I sit in my rocker on cold winter nights during the holiday seasons and picture my childhood home with its charming Christmas tree, old chimney and letters written to Santa.
