写作
第一节
66.Dear Mary,
It’s great to hear from you. Knowing that you are seeking advice on how to effectively read a book, I’m more than delighted to share some insights with you.
Undoubtedly, pre-reading comes the first place. Before diving into a book, it is suggested that you take a few moments to skim through introductions or summaries available. This will give you a general idea of the book’s main idea. In addition, you are supposed to highlight key points and jot down any question that arises while reading, thus staying engaged. Finally, after finishing a book, it is necessary to reflect on what you’ve learned to reinforce your understanding.
I hope these tips are of help to you. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Happy reading!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
“I’m the editor-in-chief for a local art magazine,” Mr. Finn continued. “I love what you’ve done here. Such an unusual choice of medium, but what an excellent result! This is a very exciting form of artistic expression, young man. With your permission, I’d like to use a photo of your work for the cover of our next issue.” Jim nodded before he figured out how much he would be paid. But he was sure that he would earn some money and help his mom.
With the payment from the magazine, Jim could not hide his joy. Jim counted the bills Mr. Finn gave him several times on the way to the hospital. After he paid for Mom’s medical treatment, there was still some money left. Without hesitation, he rushed to the store to buy some painting tools and pigments. His heart almost burst with joy at the thought of being able to take care of his family through painting.

37.根据前文“Several studies have confirmed that doing yoga does reduce cortisol (皮质醇) levels.(一些研究已经证实,做瑜伽确实能降低皮质醇水平)”推知,设空是对本句进一步说明,所以E项“High levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, can lead to an increase in fat(高水平的皮质醇,一种压力荷尔蒙,会导致脂肪增加)”符合文意,其中cortisol为同词复现。故选E项。
38.分析设空可知,空处是本段的小标题,是对本段的高度概括,根据下文“In a 2016 study, participants involved in practicing yoga realized that they tended to notice not only the amount of food they ate, but what type of foods they ate and the impact of eating those foods as well. “Subjects are reported becoming aware of the effect of certain foods on their bodies during their yoga practice, including sugar, dairy, meat and alcohol,” wrote the authors of the study.(在2016年的一项研究中,练习瑜伽的参与者意识到,他们不仅会注意自己吃了多少食物,还会注意自己吃了什么类型的食物,以及吃这些食物的影响。
40.分析设空,位于段尾,是本段的总结句,根据前文“Ultimately, the best yoga is the practice that fits you—the one you’ll commit to. There are now many accessible styles of yoga that meet you where you are no matter what your weight, age, physical challenge or background.(最后,最好的瑜伽是适合你的练习——你会坚持的练习。现在,无论你的体重、年龄、身体挑战或背景如何,都有许多适合你的瑜伽风格)”可知,本段主要讲述了选择合适的瑜伽风格,所以C项“Everybody and every body can benefit from a certain style(每个人都可以从某种风格中受益)”符合文意,是对前文的总结。故选C项。

Dear Mary,
It’s great to hear from you.
Yours,
Li Hua

As a child, I never considered myself an athlete at all as I was very uncoordinated(不协调的). However, I did love to run because I felt as if I was flying but this all changed two years ago when I suffered a knee injury. I was bedridden for two weeks and I had a difficult time moving even short distances. I literally cried myself on my way to the car for a few days.
When therapy wasn’t working well for me, I signed up for a hot yoga class for girls, Bikram Yoga to be exact. Starting a yoga practice was truly a godsend because it helped me gain strength in my knees but, most importantly, yoga helped me attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit.
Since each class was heated to 105°F, every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio, I’d feel a surge(涌起) of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave. Some of these thoughts were, in the beginning of my practice, so strong that I walked out of the class several times. However, as the months passed by, I noticed that when I didn’t get swayed away by my negative thoughts, I could stay in the hot room for longer.
After 3 – 4 months of practicing hot yoga, my arms and legs were beginning to get definition. I also woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga practice and I gradually started shedding the pounds from my body. Yoga literally made me feel as if I’d taken a shot of energy drink and just gave me that burst that helped my knees heal and made my overall health better.
As I saw some of my classmates do poses that looked appealing to me, I started to think maybe I could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real limitations physically unless I set those limitations myself through eating junk and thinking in negative limiting terms.
Also, practicing yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and practicing with a group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection with humanity whereas before I didn’t. Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see I’m part of a bigger picture in life!
24.What made the author sign up for the yoga class

As you walk around the UK in March, you might notice that some people are wearing a daffodil(水仙花) on their coats. The British wear these yellow flowers to show they support one of this country’s best-known charities: the Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The Marie Curie Cancer Care tries to ensure everyone diagnosed with cancer is cared for in the best possible way. It also helps fund research into possible cures through other organizations. Founded in 1948, it has been continuing with its goal ever since.
The charity was named after Marie Curie, a renowned scientist. She experimented with newly-discovered elements to create the theory of radioactivity. Unfortunately, over-exposure to the radioactive elements made her develop a disease and die in 1934. Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in two different fields. Because of her pioneering work which led to chemotherapy (化学疗法), the charity shared the name of Marie Curie.
The daffodil is one of the first plants to flower during spring in the UK, which marks the return of flowering plants to the ecosystem after winter. Because of this, the charity uses the daffodil as a metaphor for bringing life to other people through charitable giving.
Everyone you see wearing a daffodil has donated money to the charity, but each daffodil is worth only what you want to pay for it. The charity does ask that you stick to a minimum amount of 1.
The charity encourages people to start wearing their daffodils at the start of March, when the “Great Daffodil Appeal” kicks off. But that doesn’t mean you can only wear them in March. People are sometimes seen walking around with daffodils on their clothes all year round.
28.What does it mean when the British wear a daffodil on their coats
A.They support a charity. B.They are recovering from cancer.
C.They’ve been helped by a charity. D.They’ve been diagnosed with cancer.
29.What does the underlined word “renowned” in paragraph 3 mean

A.Because patients required that. B.Because it was launched by her.
C.Because she greatly supported it. D.Because it could show respect for her.
31.What can we learn about the daffodil from the text
A.It can be used as medicine. B.It’s thought to stand for hope.
C.It’s widely worn worldwide. D.It’s sold to the wearers at a high price.

While the rest of us are sleeping, freshwater turtles (龟) from Central America to Asia are getting out of the water and basking (月光浴) at night. There have been reports of this behavior before, but now a new study is the first to document the widespread occurrence. The findings suggest this may be a common and almost entirely overlooked aspect of many species’ ecology.
Dr. Donald McKnight, one of the researchers, said he and a colleague first observed freshwater turtles night basking at the Ross River in Townsville, Australia. “We think it’s related to temperature. The water is staying so warm at night that it’s actually warmer than the turtles like to be and they can cool down by coming out of the water,” says McKnight.
For the study, researchers put cameras to watch the night activity of as many freshwater turtle species as possible. The cameras were set up in 25 locations. They were programmed to take a photo every two minutes. They collected data on 29 species of freshwater turtles.
It would be lovely to think the turtles are just enjoying some leisure time when things are quiet. But the researchers note that in most cases, the turtles got out of water when the water was too warm and the air was cooler. Given the warming planet, that’s admittedly a bit depressing. However, not all of the nighttime baskers were escaping too-warm water. According to the study, turtles in India exhibited more basking on cooler nights, rather than warmer nights, and those in Africa spent more time basking at night in winter than in summer. The reasons for these differences are unclear. It may be that at some sites or seasons, turtles are escaping unfavourably warm water temperatures, while at others, they are taking advantage of the warm air to increase their body temperature and escape unfavourably cold water.
Regardless of the “why” behind different species’ reasons for midnight basking, it’s a fascinating look at behaviors not previously documented by scientists. And it is at least encouraging to know that turtles are figuring out important behaviors tied to climate change.
32.Why do the freshwater turtles from Australia get out of water at night
A.To search for extra food. B.To avoid natural enemies.
C.To cool themselves down. D.To enjoy the quietness outside.
33.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A.How the study was conducted. B.What the study brought about.
C.Why the study was carried out. D.Where the study was made.

A.Turtles in Africa flee water often on summer nights.
B.The water is unfavorable for turtles to survive in India

Jim dreams of becoming a famous artist to help lift his family from poverty. However, an illness in the family forces Jim to give up everything he worked so hard for.
Jim used to draw skyline on the roof of the school building, with a broken piece of pencil lead he’d found in a rubbish can. His drawing was close to perfect except for some color. His family lived from hand to mouth so Jim could only rely on himself. He had to help out on the local farm after school and saved some of the money for paints.
One day Mom fell seriously ill and was rushed to hospital at once. While the rest of his family were still at the hospital waiting, Jim ran back home to get the household emergency money. But his heart sank when he saw the pitiful money. It’d never be enough to pay for Mom’s medical treatment. He ran into his bedroom and reached for his savings.
“Goodbye, paints and brushes,” Jim said as he added his to the emergency money.
One night on the way home, thinking of Mom in hospital he wanted to do something for her. He bent down beneath a streetlight and put his fingers in the dirt on the roadside. Before he knew it, he drew a portrait (肖像) of Mom.
He found red dust and mixed it with mud to add shadow, then picked up some grass and turned it into some kind of paint. He used this to add definition around Mom’s nose, eyes and hair.
When he was finished, Jim stood back up to study his work. The linework and shading were fine, but the colors…
“It’s still no good,” Jim shook his head.
“I disagree.”
Jim turned around and found a stranger standing behind him. He gave Jim a friendly smile and introduced himself as Mr. Finn.
