Introduce the learning objectives of this period.Activity 3 Pre-readingIntroduce the background information about the Internet blog.Originating in the 1990s with the early Internet, the “blog” has now become very popular on the Internet. “Blog” is a shortening of “web-log”. The old word “log” was an official record of events during a particular period of time, often used in the context of ships and journeys. Blog is both a noun and a verb.There are many kinds of blog covering different topics and used for different things. One common example is a “live blog”, where an event will be written about online as it happens, often on a news-based website.Activity 4 Reading comprehension1. Read the blog post and answer the questions to comprehend the content of the blog post.1) What’s the main idea of the blog post Write a title for it.The blog post is about how to stay safe online and avoid bad experiences on the Internet.Title: Online Safety/ How to stay safe online.2) What guidelines does the author provide for staying safe online First, leave immediately if you find something that makes you feel uncomfortable on the site. Second, protect your privacy. Third, be polite.3) Who are the online troublemakers the blog post mentions Three kinds of people: an identity thief, a troll, and a cyberbully.4) Do you have any more tips for how to surf the Internet safely Share your ideas with a partner.Don’t give your real name or personal details such as your age, address, or your school. Use a virus program to protect your computer from viruses or attacks.2. Study the organization and language features by answering the following questions.1) Tick what the writer tells the reader in Paragraph 1.A. definition of online safety B. the writer’s knowledge C. background information D. the topic of the post2) What words and phrases does the writer use to organise the information in the second paragraph First of all; Second; Third.3) What new words are explained in the text, and how Troll and cyberbully. Get the students to discuss and share their experiences online and advice for staying safe online.2.
