教材分析 What: 该板块的活动主题是“选择你最喜欢的运动员”（Choose your favorite athlete)。文本提供了活动的情景，即某杂志社请读者来信选举自己心中的“体育界的活传奇”（Living Legends of Sports)。要求学生在理解语篇信息的基础上，总结评选标准，推荐自己喜欢的体育明星，并给出推荐的理由。 Why: 从选材来看，该文本选择了两位著名的运动员：郎平和迈克尔·乔丹。这一中一外、一男一女两位运动员，不仅在体育方面取得了令人瞩目的成就，而且还具有很多闪光的个人特质与魅力。郎平作为运动员和教练都取得郭世界冠军，文本赵中描述了她的团队合作精神和迎难而上的坚定决心。“飞人”乔丹是美国篮球联赛中的常青树，本文着重描写了他的不畏困难、坚持不懈的精神和投身公益事业的热情。学生不仅崇拜这些明星，还应该从这些“模范”身上领会和感悟到做人和做事的道理。这些都是这两个文段的主题意义所在。 How: 从文章题材看，该文本属于杂志文章，有明显的标题特征、结构特征和语言特征。文章标题通常采用一些特殊形式吸引读者的注意力或者起到“点睛”作用，如头韵（alliteration）等，“Living Legend”这一标题使用了头韵，而Air Jordan这个称呼使用了比喻的修辞手法。该文本结构清晰，由标题(title)、摘要(summary)或引领段(lead paragraph)和正文(body)组成，正文又由小标题引出两个语篇，描述两位体育明星。插图和最后一段的补充信息也是杂志文章的一般特点。
学情分析 已知情况： 基于Unit 2 Reading for Writing中“A letter of advice”的学习，学生目前对于推荐信/建议信的结构与内容特征有一定的掌握，例如“I recommend that...” “I think/suggest that...” 基于Welcome Unit的学习，学生能够使用形容词 “anxious, happy, excited...”等形容词描述自己心情 基于Welcome Unit中“Write a student profile”的学习与积累，学生目前能够用形容词词组对人的性格特征进行描述，例如：an outgoing person, a hard-working person, a diligent person等。 存在问题： 学生词汇积累有限，引导学生说出“persistent，optimistic，aspiring，cooperative”等单词比较困难。 学生可能是初次接触杂志类题材的文章，可能缺乏如何把握文章关键信息的方法 学生目前对于使用关键词法、图片、标题去预测文章的中心大意这个方法，不够熟练。
教学目标 通过分析语篇结构，学生能够掌握杂志类文章的文体特征。 通过分析语篇语言特征，学生能够将语篇中所学句子，整理归纳，形成属于自己的语言库，能够用3~5句话推荐介绍自己喜欢的体育明星。 通过分析语篇内容，学生能够形成自己关于“体育界的活传奇”的标准，且能从郎平和乔丹身上学到团结合作、不畏困难的精神。 通过学习中外运动员的事迹，学生能够提升自我国际视野，形成“全民运动”“友谊第一，比赛第二”等情怀与胸怀。
