In July, China introduced the “double reduction” policy (双减政策).It hopes to reduce(减少) schoolwork burden(负担) on primary and junior school students. The policy needs to reduce homework and after-school classes. According to the policy, children below the third grade will not have homework anymore. After-school training institutions(校外培训机构) are not allowed to give education lessons or advanced(超前的) teaching on weekends, and holidays. How do students feel about this new policy
“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercise are mainly from the textbook.”
According to Shen Yuzhe, students have enough time to process(加工) new knowledge now. "Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments(实验) and learn from real life,’’ said Shen. “For example, we went to research earthworms(蚯蚓) in a field during a biology class.This is a much better way to learn things than just hitting the books.”
For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about "double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. "We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama.”

On July 24, 2021, an important document(文件) called “double reduction” (双减) policy (政策)was carried out(实施) by the Chinese government. It refers to a reduction(减少) in the burden(负担)of excessive(超额的)homework and off-campus tutoring（校外辅导） for students.
Some students worry that the policy will lead to worse grades because they will have less time to study and get less help from after-school training classes. And they can no longer see the rankings (排名) after each exam.
A teacher from Shenzhen also pointed out that when burden(负担) is lightened(减轻), self-discipline(自律)becomes the key(关键). “Some students now spend more time having fun when homework is finished early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind other students”, he said.
Here are some ways to help students get used to this big change. To start with, students had better make full use of the time at school. They should focus on（集中注意力） their lessons and solve all the problems just in time. What’s more, making a good plan at the start of the day can help students better manage(管理) their time. In this way, they will be able to finish doing homework faster and better. Thirdly, Students can take up some hobbies,but make sure they won’t influence(影响)the students’ study and health.
