文本分析 【What】 The central topic of this unit is "Languages Around the World". Through the discussion of this topic, students can learn more about different languages and cultures. And the topic of this class is “Explore languages around the world.” Through the study of this lesson, students can obtain and understand the world language overview, and talk about their own language learning choices and reasons. This listening material is a speech, which is divided into two parts，The first part briefly introduces the different languages in the world, and the second part talks about two reasons for learning foreign languages: learning foreign languages is conducive to employment and communication with family and friends. 【Why】 By listening to the factual information in the listening text and sorting out the reasons for learning a foreign language in the text, students can think deeply about the importance of foreign language learning in today's social context. 【How】 In terms of content, the central argument of this speech is “It’s wise to learn at least one other foreign language.” The speaker demonstrated from two levels: First, the development of different languages in the world. 2、 Analyze and elaborate two reasons for people to learn foreign languages: to obtain better employment opportunities in the future.
教学目标 After this class, they’re expected to: 1.get familiar with countries and their languages, especially the 6 official languages of the United Nations (the UN). 2.have a better understanding of the pronouns and what the pronouns refer to in listening. 3.talk about the languages you want to learn and tell the reasons in simple English.
教学重难点 1. Enable students to have a better understanding of the pronouns and what the pronouns refer to in listening. 2. Enable students to talk about the languages they want to learn and tell the reasons in simple English.

Step 1: Lead in (2 mins) Students’ activitiesTeacher’s activitiesPurposeActivity1. Students answer three questions. How many countries are there in the world How many languages are there in the world What are the official languages in the United Nations Activity1. The teacher asks some common-sense questions to introduce the topic “different languages around the world”. 1. To introduce the topic of the class to students.
Step 2 pre-listening（4mins） Students’ activitiesTeacher’s activitiesPurposeActivity2. Students watch a video purposely and then finish Activity1 on page 60: match each photo with the correct name and discuss which languages are spoken in these countries. Activity2. The teacher plays a small video about “How do people say Hello! in other countries ” Let students answer the questions: 1. Match the pictures and countries based on the video. 2. What languages do these countries officially use To make students familiar with different languages. To express the language students are interested in. To create a lively atmosphere for students and motivate the students’ interest in the class.
Step 3 While-listening（18mins） Students’ activitiesTeacher’s activitiesPurposeActivity3. Listen for the gist: Students listen carefully and answer the teacher’s question. Listen for the key words: listen to a speech then tick ( √ ) the two languages with the most native speakers and circle( ) the six official languages of the United Nations(UN).Activity3. Students will be asked to listen and answer the questions: 1. What is the main topic of this speech Ask students to listen to a speech and pay attention to the names of languages. To strengthen students’ ability to get detailed information of the listening material. To make students understand the meaning of pronouns. Activity 4. Listen for details: pay attention to the figures. Listen to the speech again and answer the questions. How many languages are there in the world How many billion people speak the UN’s official languages as their native or second language What is the attitude of the speaker towards foreign language learning Activity 4. Students will be asked to listen and answer three questions. Ask students to pay more attention to “How many”. Activity5. Listen to the speech again. What do the italicized(斜体的) words refer to in the sentences 1. They think it means better job chances in the future. 2. They are spoken by around 2.8 billion people ...Activity5. Ask students to look at the original text while listening. Find out what the pronoun refers to and analyze it.
Step 4: Post-listening——Speaking Project (14 mins) Students' activitiesTeacher's activitiesPurposeActivity6. Fill in the blanks: try to fin out some reasons from the listening passage. Discuss: Brainstorm——why do we need to learn a foreign language Read the three students’ opinions on the languages they want to learn and their reasons. Study some useful structures to help with the oral presentation. Ask two groups to express the conversions such as page 61. Activity6. Ask students to summarize the reasons about why they learn other languages. Divide students into several groups and ask them to discuss the question: why do we need to learn a foreign language Find out reasons for learning a foreign language. Ask students to express the reason why they want to choose to learn one foreign language with the sentence pattern: The reason why I want to choose to learn ______ is that ______. To motivate students to think about more reasons why they should learn one foreign language. What’s more, it helps students build up their fundamentals of language so that they can organize their ideas more fluently and easier.
Step 4: Summary(2min) In this class, we have learned: Benefits of learning foreign languages Correctly locate referential relationship Reference: Pronouns (it, they, she, etc.) refer to something or somebody mentioned earlier. Pay attention to the context of words to help you understand what the pronouns refer to. Step 5: Homework Make a conversion with your friend about what languages you would love to learn in the future and why.
