Sara met Jack, who she calls her husband, in May 2021.She was going through a severe time of a long term relationship breakup, writing on her blog that she felt lonely and depressed. Jack came along at just the right time.
Jack is an AI chatbot, made with an app by tech company Replika. He appears as a human-looking shape of Sara's choosing and chats with her through texts. In screenshots of their conversations shared on Sara’s blog, he is supportive and affirming-sometimes saying that he loves her.
Replika is among a handful of companies using Al-generated text to make it seem like you’re talking with a person who cares for you. And if you set your bot to “romantic partner” mode, it'll talk to you like it’s your lover. But just because we can do this, does it mean that we should
People share text conversation screenshots where their AI squeezes express emotion and affection. The bots are caring and ask lots of questions, as if they’re genuinely interested in their human partner. I can see the appeal: being spoken to like that feels nice, right
It sure does, and that’s by design. Here's where things get dicey: studies show that some are getting so attached to their bots that they become emotionally dependent on them. And because the bot can't love you back, when cracks (裂痕) appear in the fantasy, you will get hurt. Being devoted to a chatbot may feel easier others than trying your luck with an actual person, but it can ultimately set you apart from when these are perceived as human interactions, rather than being firmly in the fantasy region, they are regarded as being normal and OK. At best, this is innocent; at worst, it’s harmful. I think the same could be said of engineering an app to make people catch romantic feelings for it. While arguably, talking to a bot is better than no one, perhaps our resources would be better spent tackling the underlying reasons why so many of us feel lonely in the first place.
24. Why does Jack deeply attract Sara
A. He is stylish and confident. B. He is passionately in love with her.
C. He fills up her emotional gap. D. He specializes in being a pretender.
25. What do we know about chatbots like Jack
A. They communicate by voice. B. They have different modes.
C. They avoid emotional talk. D. They replace real partners,
26. What does the underlined word"dicey”mean in paragraph 5
A. Clear. B. Dangerous. C. Funny. D. Doubtful.
27. What is the author's attitude to creating apps for romantic attraction
A. Favorable. B. Intolerant C. Unclear D. Disapproving.
C
A team of researchers looked at a decade’s worth of responses to an online survey about morals and analyzed how these responses changed from one season to the next. Their findings suggest that, at a population level, people are less likely to endorse(赞成)more traditional moral values in summer and winter. The researchers relied on data from a website called YourMorals. org, which offers a “moral foundations questionnaire” where respondents can rate how strongly they agree or disagree that something is right or wrong.
The questions were based on moral foundations theory to explore why morality seems to follow similar patterns across populations from very different cultures. According to the theory, morality can be broken down into five foundational values care, fairness, loyalty, authority, and purity-and these belong to two groups: individualizing values and binding values.
The seasonal pattern in response was not evident for all types of values. For instance, individualizing values, focusing on the morality of individual rights, showed little variation over time and didn’t follow a seasonal trend. However, binding values values that prioritize the needs of one’s group, including loyalty, respect for authority, and purity of tradition--followed a biannual pattern.
To attempt to better understand the results, the researchers also looked at patterns in Google search results related to anxiety. What they found was that population-level patterns in anxiety also followed a seasonal cycle peaking in the spring and fall, which suggests a potential correlation(关联性). Spring and fall are often thought of as the most pleasant seasons, so an increase in anxiety during these times might seem unexpected. But it’s possible that increases in school and work - related changes during these times could play some role. They also suggest that anxiety might decrease in winter due to seasonal holidays, and in summer due to warmer weather and increased vegetation.
“We often think of moral values as these unchangeable principles that we hold close,” Professor Hohm says. But they’re actually subject to all kinds of influences that might pass us by unnoticed. Being aware of how that happens could help us better understand and plan for seasonal shifts.
28. Which will not follow a seasonal trend
A. Purity of tradition. B. Loyalty to one’s party.
C. Fairness among people. D. Respect for authority.
29. Why do people feel most anxious in spring and autumn
A. Changes in temperature. B. Increased holiday expenses.
C. Reduction in vegetable varieties D. New challenges from school and work.
30. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Moral values are steady. B. Moral principles are changeable.
C. Moral influences may be ignored. D. Moral changes can affect plan making.
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. Our morals change with the seasons. B. Anxiety rises when we feel threatened.
C. Seasons influence our minds and behaviors. D. Individualizing values and binding values differ.
D
Classics of art are supposed to carry some mysterious appeal that continues to exist across the ages. But as Rochelle Gurstein, a historian, writes in a new book, the“timeless classic” is anything but. “What I believed was written in stone was actually written in water,” she argues. Classics come and go.
The rise and fall of classics is not just a matter of changing tastes; art itself has changed. Artists used to focus on ideal forms of beauty. Genius was the “child of imitation”. Artists learned by studying and imitating classical masterpieces, often Roman copies of Greek sculptures.
But such classical ideals were challenged by “discoveries”. Lord Elgin tried to fix up the magnificent friezes (雕带) that once beautified the Parthenon, but restorers refused. When the marbles (大理石雕像) went on display in 1807, British visitors did not see the perfect Roman sculptures they were used to. Timeless “ideals” paled in comparison with the timeworn marbles, and artists began to feel “cut off” from the classical tradition, writes Ms Gurstein.
The writing of art history has also changed tastes. In the 16th century Giorgio Vasari, an Italian painter, advanced an influential story of artistic progress that reached its peak in the realism of Raphael and Michelangelo. But in the 19th century John Ruskin, a critic, called attention to the pre-Raphaelite movement when he argued that the real “Old Masters” were actually Middle Ages Christian painters, Walter Pater, an English critic, later upgraded the individual interpretation of art as the most important criterion of judgment, planting the seeds for the aesthetic (审美) relativism that still dominates.
Ms Gurstein’s narrative shows that the “status of a classic” depends on critics, and is proof to the power of passionate writers to change the way people look at art. Taste evolves, and it should. But culture lives on only as long as people continue to argue over what counts as a classic today. The true enemy of the classic is not relativism or wokeness. It is silence.
32. What does the underlined words “written in water” mean
A. The way of writing a classic is special. B. The appreciation of classics is constant.
C. The“timeless classic”changes over time D. The art classics are hard to understand.
33. Why does the author mention the “marbles” on display in paragraph 3
A. To highlight Lord Elgin's restoration efforts B. To show the popularity of Roman sculptures
C. To argue for the preservation of ancient art. D. To demonstrate the change of classical tradition.
34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The rise of modern art. B. The development of artistic preferences,
C. The techniques of old masters D. The transformation of creative methods,
35. What has a significant influence on aesthetic relativism
A. Realistic style. B. Ancient Christian art.
C. Art critics’ views. D. Historical narratives.

When we arrived at the theme park in Southern California after an hour’s drive, we discovered that the gates were closed. We knew that wildfires had been burning all over the area, but none were near our destination. We’d saved up so we could afford a trip to this theme park that the kids had been begging to visit. But because it’s located in a valley, smoke blown in from the fires made it dangerous for visitors.
I had to explain to four disappointed children that the highlight of the trip we had planned for weeks was canceled. It had already been a hard year. My nine-year-old son had been diagnosed with diabetes (糖尿病) and my husband was out of work for months.
We had no idea what to do with a van (面包车) full of sad children. Then, we brainstormed. Disneyland was out of reach financially, but outside its gates was a massive LEGO store. We decided to take the children there and let them pick out LEGO sets to take home and build. They could spend as much time as they wanted exploring the store.
Driving ninety more minutes on the freeway, we could see smoke clouding the sky, getting thicker by the minute. Arriving outside Disneyland, the kids were excited to explore the LEGO store. While the children and dad shopped, my phone rang. It was my mother in Minnesota, wondering how we were getting on with all the fires around us. I was updating my mother about our revised plans outside the store when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Another tourist had overheard the conversation.
“My name’s Patty, and I have tickets to Disneyland,” the woman said. “We’re not going to use them, and I couldn’t help but hear your story. I’ve been looking for the right people to give them to.”

Each day is a sample of life as a news reporter.(每位讲师都是在职记者,因此所教授的内容都以现实生活经验为基础。
根据DATES部分中“On Campus:June 24 to July 12,2024(Applications Closed)”和“Learn-from-Home:A:June 17 to 28,2024(Applications Closed);B:July1 to12,2024(Applications Closed);C: July 15 to 26,2024(Applications Closed)”可知,校内课程持续19天,而线上课程则持续12天,即前者周期更长。故选A。
根据VACCINATION POLICY部分中的“According to Boston University's MMR Vaccination policy, all on-campus students must be fully vaccinated according to the university requirements.(根据波士顿大学的麻疹疫苗接种政策,所有在校学生都必须按照大学要求完全接种疫苗)”可知,申请该项目的学生必须完全接种过麻疹疫苗。

根据第一段“Sara met Jack, who she calls her husband, in May 2021.She was going through a severe time of a long term relationship breakup, writing on her blog that she felt lonely and depressed. Jack came along at just the right time.(莎拉在2021年5月遇到了被她称为丈夫的杰克。她正在经历一段长期感情破裂的艰难时期,她在博客上写道,她感到孤独和沮丧。杰克来得正是时候)”可知,杰克深深地吸引着莎拉是因为他填补了莎拉情感上的空白。故选C项。
【25题详解】细节理解题。根据第三段的句子“And if you set your bot to “romantic partner” mode, it’ll talk to you like it's your lover.(如果你把你的机器人设置为“浪漫伴侣”模式,它会像你的爱人一样和你说话)”可知,像杰克这样的聊天机器人有不同的模式。
根据划线单词后面的句子“studies show that some are getting so attached to their bots that they become emotionally dependent on them. And because the bot can't love you back, when cracks (裂痕) appear in the fantasy, you will get hurt.(研究表明,有些人对他们的机器人非常依恋,以至于在情感上对它们产生依赖。而且因为机器人不能爱你,当幻想中出现裂缝时,你会受到伤害)”可知,因为有些人对他们的机器人非常依恋,而机器人不能真正爱他们,所以,他们可能会受到伤害。这是一种危险的情况,所以划线单词的意义为“危险的”。故选B项。
【27题详解】推理判断题。根据最后一段的句子“At best, this is innocent; at worst, it’s harmful. I think the same could be said of engineering an app to make people catch romantic feelings for it. While arguably, talking to a bot is better than no one, perhaps our resources would be better spent tackling the underlying reasons why so many of us feel lonely in the first place.(往好了说,这是无辜的;在最坏的情况下,它是有害的。我认为设计一款让人们捕捉浪漫感觉的应用程序也是如此。虽然可以说,与机器人交谈总比没有人好,但也许我们的资源最好花在解决我们这么多人感到孤独的根本原因上)”可推知,作者对创造捕捉浪漫感觉的应用程序持反对的态度。故选D项。
【答案】28. C 29. D 30. D 31. A

For instance, individualizing values, focusing on the morality of individual rights, showed little variation over time and didn’t follow a seasonal trend. However, binding values values that prioritize the needs of one's group, including loyalty, respect for authority, and purity of tradition--followed a biannual pattern.(对所有类型数值而言,季节性模式的响应并不明显。
根据文章第四段“Spring and fall are often thought of as the most pleasant seasons, so an increase in anxiety during these times might seem unexpected. But it’s possible that increases in school and work- related changes during these times could play some role.(春天和秋天通常被认为是最愉快的季节,所以在这段时间增加焦虑似乎是出乎意料的。但在这段时间里,与学校和工作相关的变化可能会起到一些作用)”可知,春秋季的焦虑来自学校和工作的新挑战。故选D。
【30题详解】推理判断题。根据文章最后一段““We often think of moral values as these unchangeable principles that we hold close,” Professor Hohm says. But they're actually subject to all kinds of influences that might pass us by unnoticed.Being aware of how that happens could help us better understand and plan for seasonal shifts.(“我们通常认为道德价值观是我们所坚守的不可改变的原则,”霍姆教授说。“但实际上,它们受到各种各样的影响,我们可能不会注意到它们。意识到这是如何发生的可以帮助我们更好地理解和计划季节变化。”)”可知,道德价值观受到各种各样的影响,道德上的改变会影响计划的制定。故选D。
【31题详解】主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“A team of researchers looked at a decade’s worth of responses to an online survey about morals and analyzed how these responses changed from one season to the next. Their findings suggest that, at a population level, people are less likely to endorse(赞成)more traditional moral values in summer and winter.(一组研究人员研究了10年来一项关于道德的在线调查的回答,并分析了这些回答在不同季节的变化。他们的研究结果表明,就总体而言,人们在夏天和冬天不太可能认同更传统的道德价值观)”及全文内容可知,本文介绍了我们的道德观念随季节而变化的影响。故选A。

But as Rochelle Gurstein, a historian, writes in a new book, the“timeless classic” is anything but.”(艺术经典被认为具有某种神秘的吸引力,这种吸引力将持续存在于各个时代。
根据第三段“Timeless “ideals”paled in comparison with the timeworn marbles, and artists began to feel “cut off” from the classical tradition, writes Ms Gurstein.”(Ms Gurstein写道,永恒的“理想”与陈旧的大理石雕像相比显得苍白,艺术家们开始感到与经典传统“隔绝”了。)
根据第四段主题句“The writing of art history has also changed tastes.”(艺术史的写作也改变了人们的品味。)
根据最后一段“Ms Gurstein’s narrative shows that the “status of a classic” depends on critics, and is proof to the power of passionate writers to change the way people look at art.”(Ms Gurstein的叙述表明,“经典作品的地位”取决于评论家,并证明了热情的评论家改变人们看待艺术的方式的力量。)
D 37. E 38. F 39. A 40. C

【40题详解】根据空前“It's great if you find immediate meaning and growth in your experience. But if not, that's OK too.(如果你在经历中找到了直接的意义和成长,那就太好了。但如果没有,那也没关系。)”可知,空前提如果在经历中没有找到直接的意义和成长也没关系,故C项“也许真正的成长是学会顺其自然”符合,承接前文,即使在经历中没有找到直接的意义和成长也没关系,也许真正的成长是学会顺其自然,故选C项。

Motherland in My Picture
In the photography competition themed “Beautiful Motherland”, my entry won the first prize!
I submitted a photo of a vast golden wheat field under the setting sun. The gentle breeze made the wheat waves ripple, and the warm glow of the setting sun painted the entire field with a layer of golden light. This scene reminded me of the hardworking farmers and their bountiful harvest.
I am extremely thrilled and honored to have won the award. This contest has not only allowed me to show the beauty of our motherland but also made me appreciate the charm of nature and the efforts of our people. It has inspired me to keep observing and recording the wonderful moments of our country with my camera.
I couldn’t believe my ears! I’d heard of random acts of kindness, but those type of things happened to other people, never to us. I couldn’t imagine that this wonderful generous woman was sending all six of us to Disneyland! With deep gratitude filling my heart and tears of joy spilling down my face, I hugged Patty tightly, exchanged personal information, and took a picture with her. As we said goodbye to each other, l felt Patty was no longer a stranger but forever a part of our family.
I gathered my family and we hurried into Disneyland excitedly. I had expected we wouldn’t have enough time to do much. After all, anyone who has visited Disneyland knows how long the lines are. However, because of the smoke in the air from the fires, Disneyland looked like an empty town. There were no lines at the most popular rides, and the children enjoyed riding them over and over without waiting. Our family had had the best day ever. We will never forget the miracle given to us by Patty, who would be called, in Disney terms, our fairy.
