W: Alan Turing was born in 1912. When he was 19, he went to study mathematics at King’s College, Cambridge. Four years later, he designed a machine to solve mathematical problems. The next year, he got his PhD at Princeton University, the USA. During 1945-1954, he worked on designs for computers. One of his most famous ideas was the Turing Test. He thought computers could be made to do everything a person could do. So his test was to see when a computer could be considered to be like a human being. He thought if a person could communicate with the computer and you couldn’t tell if you talked with a person or a computer, that computer would become just like a human being. Alan Turing had made a great contribution to human beings, but unfortunately, he killed himself for depression.雅安中学2024-2025学年高2024级高一上学期10月月考

As I walked into the primary school, I looked down at my new black shoes. I stood at Mrs. Blackstone’s door. Before I tried the great escape, the door opened. “We’ve been waiting for you!” Mrs. Blackstone, my new fifth grade teacher, said loudly. With a smile my mom walked away and I was left taking center stage in front of a group of students.
Over the next few days, Mrs. Blackstone made it her job to find me a new best friend. During history lessons, when I didn’t want to speak in front of the class, she’d not only call on me but have me stand up to address my classmates.
One spring afternoon, Mrs. Blackstone asked me to stay after class. “I’d like to speak with you, Amanda.” My mind raced. Had I got a bad grade Had I hurt anyone’s feelings “Are you enjoying your new school ” She sat comfortably behind her desk. “I want to tell you something, between you and me, not to be shared with anyone else.” She continued, “I see something special in you. The way you communicate with others, and the kindness you show—I think you have great potential (潜力) to be something important.” I listened carefully to every word. “I have been a teacher for over twenty-five years; I can see it. But you must believe in yourself. That’s very important. Remember that and you’ll go far,” she said.
Her voice was music to my ears that day. I walked out of her office, not staring at my shoes, but looking straight ahead with my head high. My teacher saw something special in me! Years later, her words still remain inside of me.

Most people are aware that practicing healthy habits, eating well and exercising are important to our well-being. However, few people recognize why it is so important to implement (实施) these healthy habits into your day-to-day lifestyle.
One of the most important benefits of healthy eating is that it can help to prevent chronic (慢性的) diseases, such as heart disease, depression, cancer, arthritis, diabetes and stroke whilst also keeping your cholesterol and blood pressure within a safe range. Also, healthy eating and regular exercising can significantly assist you in avoiding excessive weight gain and improve your overall well-being.
Bad habits can be hard to break, but once you begin the process of adopting a healthier lifestyle, you will feel energized and you won’t want to eat unhealthy food. Food is meant to be enjoyed, so enjoy eating healthy food. Adopt the 80/ 20 rule (you are encouraged to eat healthily 80% of the time and then have some occasional treats) - you must feel free to reward yourself every now and again, but just be careful to not go overboard, and please don’t feel guilty about it. Many people do this by allowing themselves a treat at the weekend, and keep the week really focused on healthy eating and so this helps keep it manageable. If you do experience a slip-up just get right back to your healthy eating habits. The more positive you stay, the easier and more enjoyable healthy eating will become.
As Hippocrates once said, “let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” (Hippocrates, 400 B.C.). Taking the measures to truly begin caring about your body is the first important step to living a healthy lifestyle. Balance is key, so always aim to eat whole, natural foods and avoid prepackaged, processed food.

B. It’s OK to eat prepackaged or processed food a lot.
C. Always stick to eating healthily without exception.
D. With self-control, you can sometimes allow yourself a treat.
29. Why is it important to eat healthily
A. It stops you from getting chronic diseases.
B. It raises your blood pressure to a safe level.
C. It improves your overall well-being.
D. It helps you to lose weight.
30. What does Hippocrates’ words suggest
A. If you are ill, food can be the medicine.
B. You shouldn’t eat medicine as your food.
C. Food has nothing to do with medicine.
D. Your food may cause you to get ill.
31. What can be the best title for the passage
A. Eat the Most You Can.
B. You Are What You Eat.
C. Eat Well to Protect Yourself.
D. Pay Attention to Bad Eating Habits.
D
As you grow rapidly through your teenage years, you will experience a lot of changes. The changes may seem difficult and they may seem to happen quickly. Don’t panic! You will deal successfully with them! You are a young adult now!
With more responsibility, you will find more freedom to make your own choices. This is a time to be well informed about your choices so that you can make healthy balanced decisions that will help shape your future. You may already know your career path or you may have no idea at all what you want to do. Both situations are fine! Work hard and the right opportunity will present itself to you.
Young adulthood means greater freedom and more choices. You will probably want to be independent. But try not to shut your family out of your life. You should learn to think of others even though you are old enough to look after yourself. Your family have been with you since you came into this world.
It is also perfectly natural in this time for you to spend more time with your friends than your family. Choose your friends wisely. A true friend will stand by you no matter what happens. This period is part of the life cycle. There are some people who will be with you throughout life’s journey and there will be some people with whom you part and go separate ways. Leaving school can be hard. The reality is that you may not ever see all of your classmates again.
You are a young adult. It is your life. No one can live it for you. The choices that you make from now on will be your choices. So making the right choices will be important to you. Life is for living. Enjoy your life wisely!
32. As far as the author is concerned, teenage years are ________.
A. a period of complete freedom
B. too hard for young people to get through
C. an important time for the young to make the right choices
D. a very important period for young students to leave their parents
33. The underlined words “some people” in paragraph 4 probably refer to “________”.
A. Your parents. B. Your classmates.
C. True friends. D. Your relatives.
34. The best title for this passage would be “________”.
A. The Choices in Life B. The Key to Success
C. Say Goodbye to the Past D. Becoming a Young Adult
35. Who is the passage mainly intended for
A. Teenagers. B. Teachers.
C. Young parents. D. Adults.
