Which fruit personality are you
In the workplace, we have to be able to deal with people who aren’t like us. No one will change for you, so you just have to respect their differences. When identifying personality types, I like to talk in terms of fruit. Nobody is just one fruit, but we all have a preference. And we tend to emphasize our top two, especially under pressure. Here are some fruit personalities and how best to deal with them.
Types Introduction & Management
Apple: Hard Core Apple types are direct and don’t suffer fools. They are fast, logical thinkers who love to win and hate to lose control. They’ll get a result at any cost, but see conflict as sport. Always stand up to them.
Get to the point.
Don’t take it personally.
Watch and learn from them.
Mango: Juicy and Messy Mango types love life and can’t afford to miss a minute. They love variety because they tend to be easily distracted and naturally rule breakers. Talk big picture, avoid details.
Give them false deadlines.
Don’t micro-manage.
Lemon: Concentrated Lemon types love structure and order. They are worriers who like security and predictability. They excel at spotting gaps in a plan. But too many rules can also be frustrating. Respect their need for space.
Don’t surprise them.
Listen with respect.
Show your pace.
Banana: Sweet and Gentle Banana types enjoy peace and shy away from conflicts. They are kind to react to others’ requests. However, when they are too accommodating, they can be seen as indecisive. Don’t pressure them, motivate.
Create a positive environment.
Encourage regular feedback.
Be nice to them.
21. What do people of Mango and Lemon personalities have in common
A. They both prefer private space and specific deadlines.
B. They both need regular feedback and being motivated.
C. They both serve as good ice-breakers of the workplace.
D. They both dislike being restricted by excessive rules.
22. Who probably favors the Banana Personality
A. Jack, an innovative thinker who is willing to face challenges.
B. Adam, a brilliant planner who always sticks to his daily routines.
C. Nancy, a patient worker who prioritizes harmonious relationships.
D. Robin, an open-minded leader who advocates the value of diversity.
23. Where can the passage probably be found
A. In a book review. B. In a psychology magazine.
C. In an academic paper. D. In an entertainment book.
B
As a young girl growing up in France, Sarah Toumi dreamed of becoming a leader who could make the world a better place. Her passion to help others was awakened when, from the age of nine, she accompanied her Tunisian father to his birthplace in the east of the country during holidays. There she organized homework clubs and activities for children.
Toumi witnessed first-hand the destructive effect of desertification. “Within10 years rich farmers became worse off, and in 10 years from now they will be poor. I wanted to stop the Sahara Desert in its tracks.” A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity of droughts have led to an estimated 75 percent of Tunisia’s agricultural lands being threatened by desertification.
Toumi recognized that farming practices needed to change. She is confident that small land areas can bring large returns if farmers are able to adapt by planting sustainable crops, using new technologies for water treatment and focusing on natural products and fertilizers rather than chemicals.
In 2012, Toumi continued her dream to fight the desert. She moved to Tunisia, and set up a programme named Acacias for All to put her sustainable farming philosophy into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities where they are. Nobody is better able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living with no access to water.”
By September2016, more than 130, 000 acacia trees had been planted on 20 pilot farms, with farmers recording a 60 percent survival rate. Toumi estimates that some 3 million acacia trees are needed to protect Tunisia’s farmland. She expects to plant l million trees by 2028. In the next couple of years, Toumi hopes to extend the programme to Algeria and Morocco.
24.How did Toumi’s holiday trips to Tunisia influence her
A.They fired her enthusiasm for helping others.
B.They helped her better understand her father.
C.They made her decide to leave the country.
D.They destroyed her dream of being a teacher.
25.What is the main cause of the desertification of Tunisia’s farmland
A.Cold weather. B.Soil pollution. C.Low rainfall. D.Forest damage.
26.Why did Toumi set up Acacias for All in Tunisia
A.To create job opportunities for young people.
B.To promote the protection of their farmland.
C.To persuade the farmers not to use fertilizers.
D.To help the children obtain a basic education.
27.Which of the following can be the best title to the text
A.Saving Water in Africa B.Fighting Poverty in North Africa
C.Holding back the Sahara D.Planting Trees in Tunisia

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children aged 6 to 12 years of age sleep 9 to 12 hours per night on a regular basis to promote optimal health. Up until now, no studies have examined the permanent impact of sleep shortage on the neurocognitive development of pre-teens.
To conduct the study, the researchers examined data that were collected from more than 8,300 children aged 9 to 10 years who were enrolled in the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study. They examined MRI images, medical records, and surveys completed by the participants and their parents at the time of enrollment and at a two-year follow-up visit at 11 to 12 years of age.
“We found that children who had insufficient sleep, less than nine hours per night, at the beginning of the study had less grey matter or smaller volume in certain areas of the brain responsible for attention, memory and inhibition control compared to those with healthy-sleep habits,” said study corresponding author Ze Wang. “These differences persisted after two years, a concerning finding that suggests long-term harm for those who do not get enough sleep.”
This is the first finding to demonstrate the potential long- term impact of lack of sleep on neurocognitive development in children. It also provides substantial support for the current sleep recommendations in children. But additional studies are needed to confirm the finding and to see whether any interventions can improve sleep habits and reverse the neurological deficits according to Dr. Wang and his colleagues.
The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages parents to help children develop good sleep habits. Their tips include making sufficient sleep a family priority, sticking with a fixed sleep routine, encouraging exercise during the day, limiting screen time and eliminating screens completely an hour before bed.
“This is a crucial study finding that points to the importance of doing long-term studies on the developing child’s brain,” said E. Albert Reece. “Sleep can often be overlooked during busy childhood days filled with homework and extracurricular activities. Now we see how detrimental that can be to a child’s development.”
28. Why did the researchers conduct the study
A. To promote optimal mental health for children 6 to 12.
B. To examine the long- lasting effect of insufficient sleep.
C. To give support for current children sleep recommendations.
D. To assess the permanent impact of early neurocognitive development.
29. What might the further study focus on
A. The effectiveness of interventions. B. The consequences of lack of sleep.
C. The benefits of enough sleep. D. The solutions to memory loss.
30. What is advised to promote good sleep habits in children
A. A regular sleep schedule. B. Less exposure to homework.
C. More physical activities at night. D. A reduction in screen time before bed.
31. What is mainly discussed about the study in the last paragraph
A. Its application. B. Its limitation. C. Its procedure. D. Its significance.

What is life Like most great questions, this one is easy to ask but difficult to answer. The reason is simple: we know of just one type of life and it’s challenging to do science with a sample size of one. The field of artificial life-called ALife for short — is the systematic attempt to spell out life’s fundamental principles. Many of these practitioners, so-called ALifers, think that somehow making life is the surest way to really understand what life is.
So far no one has convincingly made artificial life. This track record makes ALife a ripe target for criticism, such as declarations of the field’s doubtful scientific value. Alan Smith, a complexity scientist, is tired of such complaints. Asking about “the point” of ALife might be, well, missing the point entirely, he says. “The existence of a living system is not about the use of anything.” Alan says. “Some people ask me, ‘So what’s the worth of artificial life ’ Do you ever think, ‘What is the worth of your grandmother ’”
As much as many ALifers hate emphasizing their research’s applications, the attempts to create artificial life could have practical payoffs. Artificial intelligence may be considered ALife’s cousin in that researchers in both fields are enamored by a concept called open-ended evolution. This is the capacity for a system to create essentially endless complexity, to be a sort of “novelty generator”. The only system known to exhibit this is Earth’s biosphere. If the field of ALife manages to reproduce life’s endless “creativity” in some virtual model, those same principles could give rise to truly inventive machines.
Compared with the developments of Al, advances in ALife are harder to recognize. One reason is that ALife is a field in which the central concept — life itself — is undefined. The lack of agreement among ALifers doesn’t help either. The result is a diverse line of projects that each advance along their unique paths. For better or worse, ALife mirrors the very subject it studies. Its muddled (混乱的) progression is a striking parallel to the evolutionary struggles that have shaped Earth biosphere.
Undefined and uncontrolled, ALife drives its followers to repurpose old ideas and generated novelty. It may be, of course, that these characteristics aren’t in any way surprising or singular. They may apply universally to all acts of evolution. Ultimately ALife may be nothing special. But even this dismissal suggests something:perhaps, just like life itself throughout the universe, the rise of ALife will prove unavoidable.
32. Regarding Alan Smith’s defence of ALife, the author is .
A. supportive B. puzzled C. unconcerned D. doubtful
33. What does the word “enamored” underlined in Paragraph 3 most probably mean
A. Shocked. B. Protected. C. Attracted. D. Challenged.
34. What can we learn from this passage
A. ALife holds the key to human future. B. ALife and AI share a common feature.
C. AI mirrors the developments of ALife. D. AI speeds up the process of human evolution.
35. Which would be the best title for the passage
A. Life Is Undefined. Can AI Be a Way Out
B. Life Evolves. Can AI Help ALife Evolve, Too
C. Life Is Undefined. Can ALife Be Defined One Day
D. Life Evolves. Can Attempts to Create ALife Evolve, Too

The Changing Landscape of the Music Business
The music industry is in the process of a great change. In the past decades, artists made money through physical sales of records, CDs, and cassettes. While in recent years, downloading songs from services such as Amazon or iTunes has become the most common way for people to purchase music, and the whole idea of buying music to own may be falling. To take its place are Internet apps that stream music directly to listeners on their smartphones, tablets, or computers. 36 While this is great for fans, who now have access to millions of songs at the flick of a touchscreen, it has shattered the traditional model of how an artist manages his or her career.
With music lovers increasingly moving away from making one-time purchases towards an all-you-can-listen-to service, what is a hard-working artist to do The main problem facing many musicians is that payments-per-stream of a song are much lower than what an artist would receive from a download. 37 In November of 2014, award-winning musician Taylor Swift pulled her entire music catalog from Spotify, a popular streaming app, claiming that their business model suggests that music does not hold much worth.
38 They claim that it offers smaller artists a chance for their music to get heard by a wider audience. Brian Message, manager of the band Radiohead, has come out in support of streaming services. He sees them as a way for musicians and fans to interact.
Regardless of what artists may think about this change in the music industry, there’s no arguing that they need to adapt in order to make money. 39
Corporate sponsorship can be a risky option for musicians. A band can make much money by agreeing to promote a product or license its music for use in advertisements, but there are many ways that this can backfire. When bands work with businesses, they may lose the image they have worked to create. 40 Artists must develop an image that appeals to their fans in order to remain unique and authentic, or they risk striking .the wrong chord, which could leave them struggling to sustain careers in this new business landscape.
A. Others have welcomed the idea of streaming music.
B. However, those forms of media are quickly fading away.
C. Some big-name artists have called attention to the issue.
D. The rules could be different for smaller bands just starting out.
E. Maintaining a fine image while working on a career is certainly tricky.
F. One major shift is the growth in partnership between artists and businesses.
G. These apps are available either as free versions or as monthly subscription services.

Training was brutal, as Penny Lee Dean prepared for what would be a record-setting swim―regardless of sex―across the English Channel in 1978. “Your hands cramp, your legs cramp,” she remembers.
While the cold was bone-chilling, 41 it has been essential to her success as a record-breaking swimmer. An ability to tolerate extreme 42 is one of the advantages that women may have in this sport, as their distribution of fat is 43 for regulating body temperature in cold water.
Dean believes that any upper hand women might have in open-water swimming over a long 44 is more about mental 45 and the ability to withstand discomfort than about insulation (阻隔). In the ultradistance 46 , the ability to juggle more factors, from weather to pain, becomes particularly important.
In fact, women can outperform or perform 47 to men in a range of competitive events. From ultrarunning to shooting sports, in some competitions women even have the 48 .

The rifle events are the most sex-balanced of the three types of shooting events in the Olympics, according to Rippel.
The Paris Olympics are the first Olympics to have equal numbers of female 51 . This is also an opportunity to 52 what gaps in inclusion are still in existence. While much of the science of sex and performance may be 53 , one thing that’s crystal clear is that more research needs to involve women.

I was nominated (提名) for our school’s debate team. I jumped at the chance. When I got home that day, I began to fill out the application form, trying hard to prove how I met all the team’s criteria: strong communication skills, teamwork, and a good understanding of current events.
The next day, I handed in my application and waited with eagerness. I was on tenterhooks (如坐针毡) , anticipation building up with each tick of the clock.
Two weeks went by, and I received a letter from the school about the debate team, which began with “I’m sorry to…”. As soon as the school bus let me off that afternoon, I raced into the house. My mother was typing at the computer.
“Mom,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, “I didn’t make the debate team.”
She looked up, a smile playing on her lips, thinking I was joking, and playfully reached out to high-five me. But the tears in my eyes told a different story.
“No, really, I wasn’t picked,” I told her, handing her the letter.
Her smile faded, replaced by a look of genuine concern. “Oh, sweetheart, I’m sorry,” she said, surprised. “There must be some mistake.” She called the debate team advisor, but he confirmed there were no mistakes and the decision was final. Hearing that, I broke down and burst out crying.
The rejection stung (刺痛) me, especially when I saw friends celebrating their acceptance. I felt cheated, questioning the fairness of the process. In my view, some selected didn’t deserve it as much as I did. Bitterness crept (潜入) into my words as I complained.
“I’m the best fit for the team,” I protested.
“See, Jenny, complaining won’t get you on the team.” Mom gave me a serious look.

M: Hey, you won’t believe what happened earlier today. I had to rescue a cat that was stuck in a tree.
W: Oh, really Tell me all about it.
M: It was quite a challenge. The poor thing was terrified and wouldn’t come down. I had to get a ladder from my neighbor but, even then, it took some time to get the cat to trust me. Finally, after a bit of patience, I managed to reach it and bring it down safely.
W: That’s so kind of you. It sounds like quite an adventure.
M: It was. I’m just glad I could help the poor creature.
8.A 9.B 10.C

W: That deserves praise. How does your family feel about the time you’re devoting to it
M: Well, it’s been challenging. My family has been supportive, but I can sense their concerns.
W: I see. What are their major concerns
M: They worry that I might not have enough time for study or that I’ll neglect my responsibilities at home.
W: That’s understandable. How do you plan to address these concerns while continuing your important work
M: It’s a balancing act for sure. I’m making an effort to involve them in some of the community activities, so it becomes a family effort. And I’ve been working on better time management.

M: I don’t know, Eva. We’ve bought tickets and watched West Ham United F.C. play at home dozens of times. These games are hard to predict.
W: I know. But look at all of us fans together, cheering on our team from the stands. We can cheer our team to victory.
M: I hope so. It’s still a draw now. But if the coach doesn’t switch some players on the field, we’ll definitely lose.
W: Have some faith!
M: Well, as long as we keep up our excellent defense and passing, we’ll stop the visiting team from winning.
W: Our team’s movement is excellent, and we’ll get at least two more goals in the net by the game’s end. You’ll see!
M: I hope you’re right!

M: Well, I’ve made some fantastic friends here. I’ve met people from all walks of life. And I’ve even joined a club for outdoor enthusiasts. It’s been a lot of fun exploring the nearby hiking trails and spending weekends camping.
W: Sounds great. But I can imagine it’s not all plain sailing. Any challenges you’ve had to face
M: Oh yes. Managing loads of assignments and exams can be quite stressful. And the most serious problem is the financial issue. My part-time job barely covers all my expenses, so budgeting has been a real struggle.
W: I can see how that can be tough. Where do you usually study
M: I mostly study in the university library. It’s a quiet and well-equipped place, perfect for focusing.
W: When do you usually find time to relax
M: Honestly, most of my free time is taken up by my part-time job or studying. I try to catch some relaxation time at the weekend by hanging out with friends or going for a long walk in the nearby park.

It’s quite incredible how a simple hobby can turn into a fulfilling and successful career. I want to share my journey with you, starting from my love for photography. I used to take pictures of landscapes and people during my free time. It was my way of capturing life’s beautiful moments and expressing my creativity. Little did I expect that this passion would lead to a career. Over time, I improved my skills by experimenting with various techniques and attending photography workshops. Friends and family began to notice my talent and asked me to photograph their events. This was the turning point. I started doing small jobs like capturing(拍摄) weddings, parties, and special moments. Word of mouth quickly spread, and soon, I was in demand as a photographer. As my client base expanded, so did my confidence and ambition. I realized I could turn my hobby into a full-time career. However, this journey had its challenges. The pressure of delivering perfect photos, the irregular income, and the competition in the photography world tested my patience. Now, I’ve established my own photography business, specializing in portrait(肖像) photography. I’ve traveled to beautiful places, met wonderful people, and captured countless unforgettable moments. My future plans include exploring new types of photography, teaching ambitious photographers, and continuing to find new ways to tell domestic stories through my camera.

根据第一段“When identifying personality types, I like to talk in terms of fruit. Nobody is just one fruit, but we all have a preference. 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了Sarah Toumi的成长经历及其为对抗沙漠化、保护突尼斯农田所做出的努力,包括成立Acacias for All项目,种植树木以维护生态平衡,同时也提及了她的个人愿景和项目的发展影响。
24.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“As a young girl growing up in France, Sarah Toumi dreamed of becoming a leader who could make the world a better place. Her passion to help others was awakened when, from the age of nine, she accompanied her Tunisian father to his birthplace in the east of the country during holidays. There she organized homework clubs and activities for children. (作为一个在法国长大的年轻女孩,Sarah Toumi梦想成为一名能够让世界变得更美好的领导者。从九岁起,她就在假期陪伴Tunisian父亲前往他在该国东部的出生地,这唤醒了她帮助他人的热情。在那里,她为孩子们组织了家庭作业俱乐部和活动。)”可知,Toumi在Tunisian的假期旅行激发了她帮助他人的热情。故选A。
根据文章第二段中的“A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity of droughts have led to an estimated 75 percent of Tunisia’s agricultural lands being threatened by desertification. (平均降雨量的减少和干旱严重程度的增加导致突尼斯大约75%的农业用地受到荒漠化的威胁。)”可知,导致突尼斯农田沙漠化的主因是降水量减少。故选C。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“In 2012, Toumi continued her dream to fight the desert. She moved to Tunisia, and set up a programme named Acacias for All to put her sustainable farming philosophy into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities where they are. Nobody is better able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living with no access to water.” (2012年,Toumi继续她与沙漠作战的梦想。她搬到了突尼斯,建立了一个名为“Acacias for All”的项目,将她的可持续农业理念付诸行动。“我想向农村地区的年轻人展示,他们可以在自己所在的地方创造机会。没有人比那些生活在没有水的地方的人更能理解荒漠化和气候变化的影响。”)”和第五段中“Toumi estimates that some 3 million acacia trees are needed to protect Tunisia’s farmland. (Toumi估计需要大约300万棵金合欢树来保护Tunisia的农田。)”可知,Toumi建立Acacias for All的目的是为了推广保护他们农田的行动。故选B。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第二段“Toumi witnessed first-hand the destructive effect of desertification (沙漠化). 因此,“Holding back the Sahara (阻挡Sahara)”最能概括文章主题。

根据第一段段尾的“Up until now, no studies have examined the permanent impact of sleep shortage on the neurocognitive development of pre-teens.(到目前为止,还没有研究调查睡眠不足对青少年前神经认知发展的永久影响。)”以及第四段段首的“This is the first finding to demonstrate the potential long-term impact of lack of sleep on neurocognitive development in children.(这是第一个证明睡眠不足可能对儿童神经认知发展产生潜在长期影响的研究发现。)”
根据第四段中的“But additional studies are needed to confirm the finding and to see whether any interventions can improve sleep habits and reverse the neurological deficits according to Dr. Wang and his colleagues.(但是还需要额外的研究来确认这一发现,并看看是否有任何干预措施可以改善睡眠习惯并逆转神经缺陷。)” 故选A项。
根据倒数第二段中的“Their tips include making sufficient sleep a family priority, sticking with a fixed sleep routine, encouraging exercise during the day, limiting screen time and eliminating screens completely an hour before bed.(他们的建议包括把充足的睡眠作为家庭的首要任务,坚持固定的睡眠习惯,鼓励白天锻炼,限制看屏幕的时间,并在睡前一小时内完全消除看屏幕的时间。)” 故选A项。
根据最后一段中的“This is a crucial study finding that points to the importance of doing long-term studies on the developing child’s brain,(这是一个关键的研究发现,指出了对发育中儿童大脑进行长期研究的重要性。)”

根据第三段“As much as many ALifers hate emphasizing their research’s applications, the attempts to create artificial life could have practical payoffs. (尽管许多ALifer讨厌强调他们研究的应用,但创造人工生命的尝试可能会有实际的回报)”可知,作者认为创造人工生命的尝试是会有回报的;再结合第二段“So far no one has convincingly made artificial life. “Some people ask me, ‘So what’s the worth of artificial life ’ Do you ever think, ‘What is the worth of your grandmother ’”(到目前为止,还没有人能令人信服地制造出人工生命。 故选A。
根据划线词上文“Artificial intelligence may be considered ALife’s cousin in that researchers in both fields are enamored by a concept called open-ended evolution (演化).(人工智能可能被认为是ALife的表亲,因为这两个领域的研究人员都被一个叫做开放进化的概念enamored)”可知,人工智能可能被认为是ALife的表亲,说明人工智能和ALife二者间有共同之处,可推测是因为这两个领域的研究人员都被一个叫做开放进化的概念所吸引,所以才有了这种观点。
根据第三段“Artificial intelligence may be considered ALife’s cousin in that researchers in both fields are enamored by a concept called open-ended evolution (演化).(人工智能可能被认为是ALife的表亲,因为这两个领域的研究人员都被一个叫做开放进化的概念所吸引)”可知,ALife和AI有一个共同的特点。故选B。
根据最后一段“They may apply universally to all acts of evolution. Ultimately ALife may be nothing special. But even this dismissal suggests something: perhaps, just like life itself throughout the universe, the rise of ALife will prove unavoidable.(它们可能普遍适用于所有进化行为。最终,ALife可能没有什么特别的。但即使是这种否定也表明了一些事情:也许,就像整个宇宙中的生命本身一样,ALife的崛起将被证明是不可避免的)”结合文章主要探讨了ALife是否也在不断地进化。D选项“生命在进化。创造ALife的尝试也能进化吗?”是最合适的标题。故选D。

【分析】本文是一篇议论文。文章描写了流媒体的发展对于现如今音乐人的影响。

37.根据前文“The main problem facing many musicians is that payments-per-stream of a song are much lower than what an artist would receive from a download.(许多音乐家面临的主要问题是,每流歌曲的付费远远低于艺术家从下载中获得的费用。)”以及下文“In November of 2014, award-winning musician Taylor Swift pulled her entire music catalog from Spotify, a popular streaming app, claiming that their business model suggests that music does not hold much worth.”(2014年11月,获奖音乐家泰勒·斯威夫特(Taylor Swift)从流行流媒体应用Spotify下架了她的全部音乐目录,声称Spotify的商业模式表明音乐没有多少价值。) C选项“Some big-name artists have called attention to the issue.”(一些大牌艺术家已经引起了人们对这个问题的关注。)
38.根据下文“They claim that it offers smaller artists a chance for their music to get heard by a wider audience.(他们声称这为小艺术家提供了一个机会,让他们的音乐被更广泛的观众听到。)” A选项“Others have welcomed the idea of streaming music.”(其他人则对流媒体音乐的想法表示欢迎。)
39.根据上文“Regardless of what artists may think about this change in the music industry, there’s no arguing that they need to adapt in order to make money.(不管艺术家们对音乐行业的这种变化有什么看法,毫无疑问,为了赚钱,他们需要适应。)”以及下文“Corporate sponsorship can be a risky option for musicians.(对音乐家来说,企业赞助可能是一个冒险的选择。)” F选项“One major shift is the growth in partnership between artists and businesses.”(一个主要的变化是艺术家和企业之间的合作关系的增长。)
40.根据下文“Artists must develop an image that appeals to their fans in order to remain unique and authentic, or they risk striking the wrong chord, which could leave them struggling to sustain careers in this new business landscape.(为了保持独特和真实,艺术家们必须塑造出能吸引粉丝的形象,否则他们就有可能引起错误的共鸣,这可能会让他们在新的商业环境下难以维持职业生涯。)” E选项“Maintaining a fine image while working on a career is certainly tricky.”(在事业上保持良好的形象当然是很棘手的。)

I stared at Mom and listened eagerly. She shared her own stories of failure and disappointment and how she turned them into opportunities for growth. “Every rejection is a lesson,” she said. With her guidance, I spent the next three months improving my skills. I practiced debates, read extensively to stay updated on current events, and sought feedback from teachers and peers. I even started a debate club after school to gain more experience.
I did make it when a second chance came 3 months later. When the team needed an extra member for an upcoming tournament, they considered my dedication and improvement. This time, I was ready. My performance in the tryouts was confident and well-prepared. Joining the team was a sweet victory, but the real win was in the resilience I had built and the lessons I had learned along the way. My mother’s wisdom had steered me through a tough time, and I was grateful for the journey that had made me a better debater and a stronger person.
