Recently, the basketball game “Village BA” was held in Taipan Village in Taijiang County, Guizhou Province. It was held by local villagers and most players came from villages. It also attracted people from all over the country to cheer for the players.
Four teams attended this year’s finals. The championship game took place on March 28 when TeamQiandongnan beat Team Zunyi 68-65. On March 27, Team Tongren overcame Team Bijie 57-50 to finish third.
Village BA is about as grassroots as sports get, with matches originating from the local Chi XinFestival, a harvest-celebration on June 6 of the lunar calendar. As part of the festival, locals would organize pick-up games until the action gradually becomes formal.
The Village BA was quite different from other common games. Local cultures were connected with the competition. The game’s live commentator（解说员） used both Putonghua and the Guizhou dialect（方言） to comment the games. During competition breaks, local art groups performed traditional Miao-style dances, and local agricultural products such as ducks and rice were given as prizes.
“It’s not an easy job to organize such an event. All the efforts paid off, and the loud sound of people’s cheers is the best reward,” said Liu Shangbo, a local sports official who had stayed in Taipan for over a week.
“We attract more and more tourists, and the facilities（设施） here are improving all the time. Everything is on the up here. The event is helping the development of the village and it encourages more people to love sports.”

My new teacher is cool. Her name is Paula so we call her Miss Paula.
The first time we met her she said we are going to be good friends and that good friends are always nice to each other.
Miss Paula has been teaching us a lot of things. Some of us used to get in trouble for talking in the hallway (过道). Bees have been around for over 100 million years. Despite their tiny size, they have an outstanding ability to survive a whole host of changes since they first appeared on our planet. Besides, they can learn and remember things. They can count up to four and recognize human faces. Just one hive of bees will use this amazing flying skill to fly around 90,000 miles each time they collect 1kg of honey.
