A farm in New South Wales in Australia has hit the record books after producing the world's heaviest blueberry. The unusually large fruit was picked on November 13, 2023 at Costa Group's berry farm.
Weighing 20.4 grams, the blueberry was grown by senior horticulturalist Brad Hocking, with Jessica Scalzo and Marie-France Courtois. The earlier world record was for a 16.2-gram blueberry grown in Western Australia in 2020.
Mr Hocking said the 20.4-gram“eterna”blueberry was known for its large size and long shelflife（保存期）.“Eterna, as a new kind of blueberry, generally has large fruit,”he said. "When we picked this one. there were probably around 20 other berries of a similar size.”Mr. Hocking was excited to be recognized with the world record, but he thought taste remained the top task.“While the fruit is large, there's certainly no compromise(妥协)on taste when developing the blueberry," he said.
Eterna is part of Costa Group's Variety Improvement Program (VIP), which has been operating for more than 25 years. It develops about one to two new kinds of blueberries each year. Program manager George Jessett said he has a lot of confidence and excitement about new types of blueberries. “We are always looking to develop new blueberries to meet the changing requirements of customers,” he said."We are also looking to develop new types that are more adaptable(能适应的)to hotter weather.”

Summer in Japan can be a difficult time. First of all, it's very hot, with temperatures often going above 30 C. And it's so wet that it often feels like living in a sauna. Of course, many buildings have air conditioners(空调)，but people do need to go outside sometimes. So how do Japanese people stay cool outdoors
While some use traditional fans, these days it's common to see people carrying small hand-held electric fans to keep themselves cool. One company has even made work jackets with electric fans inside to keep the wearer cool.
In July 2023, a Japanese company named Gloture created an air conditioner called WearCool that you can just wear around your waist(腰部). WearCool is a belt that uses five small fans to blow cool air at up to 5 meters per second. The inside of the belt is also made of something that takes in heat, so it's comfortable to wear. The belt can be adjusted for different waist sizes too. And while Gloture's pictures show models wearing the belt like a fashion accessory(配饰)，you can actually wear it under your clothes.
WearCool comes with a powerful battery(电池）that lets it be used without stopping for up to 17 hours, the company says. And by using an app—which can be used in English or Japanese—you can adjust both the speed and the direction of the airflow.
WearCool is now available from Gloture's online store and costs around $230. But will it become as popular as those hand-held electric fans Nobody knows for sure.
