“I feel unlikable, lonely and hopeless,” said Lisa, a bright teenager from a loving home. “It seems that nobody wants to become my friend. What’s wrong with me ”
Like Lisa, many of us experience loneliness. The truth is that all people, no matter what their age or character experience loneliness at least sometimes. It’s healthy and natural to want to be around people who care. We all need others in our lives.
Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, explains that if we want friends, we must be friendly and reach out to others. But it has risk. Because we are often afraid of rejection (拒绝), many of us are unwilling to reach out to others. We take a safer way and wait for others to make friends with us. But if we want friends, we’ve got to get beyond this.
If making friends is your goal as well, you need to consider the following two.
Be willing to take the initiative (主动权). If you see someone whom you would like to know, don’t wait for her to make the first move. Get close to her and begin a conversation. Let her know in a non-aggressive (无攻击性的) way that you are interested in being friends with her.
Ask questions. Start your first conversation by asking this possible friend what she likes to do or asking about her family. Be sure to ask questions that cannot be replied with “yes” or “no”. For example, don’t ask “Do you have a dog ” Instead, say “So, tell me about your pets.” Avoiding asking “yes” or “no” questions makes your possible friend not end your communication with a one-word answer.
24. Why does the author begin the text with Lisa’s worry
A. To set a sad tone. B. To share Lisa’s pain.
C. To introduce the topic. D. To teach readers a lesson.
25. What can be a risk caused by reaching out to others according to the passage
A. Being refused by others. B. Putting ourselves in danger.
C. Being treated in a rude way. D. Losing interest in communicating.
26. What can we know from Paragraph 5
A. Shy people are hard to talk to.
B. Popular people are often easy-going.
C Just waiting for chances will waste our time.
D. A proper way is important in making friends.
27. Why does the author suggest not asking “yes” or “no” questions
A. It is considered unfriendly.
B. It will leave a bad first impression.
C. It shows the poor quality of the speaker.
D. It isn’t good for keeping a conversation going.

Chelsea Sodaro is a 34-year-old new mom who recently won the VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, in the professional women's field. Just 18 months after giving birth to her daughter, Skylar, the professional triathlete won the intense competition.
The IRONMAN World Championship required contestants to complete a difficult race - a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. A resident in Reno, Nevada told Fox News Digital, “The IRONMAN World Championship is the most important part of our sport. All the best athletes show up ready to throw down".
Sodaro, shockingly, had only ever completed one IRONMAN prior to the World Championship - in June 2022. With just one other full IRONMAN finished, Chelsea Sodaro had to train hard for the championship. The preparation for a race like this can range depending on the competitor, but for Sodaro, preparation was the key to her massive success. The triathlete trains roughly 25-30 hours a week across all areas of the race: swimming, biking and running. Training athletes like her also tend to lift weights and gain muscle to help them succeed in the race.
However, this particular competition proved to be a challenge beyond the physical training aspect.
Sodaro said the Big Island of Hawaii had unique climate conditions that required additional training on her part. But during the days leading up to the race day, Sodaro said she was very nervous. But she said that right before the race began, she felt a sense of peace. “I poured so much into my work, and my family made a lot of sacrifices to get me to the start line in one piece. I knew that I was ready to have a great day,” she said.
So how did Sodaro make it to the finish line first She said she stayed focused and didn't panic when things went wrong.
Sodaro crossed the finish line at 8:33:46. That made her the first rookie (新选手) to win the IRONMAN World Champion in 15 years and the first American in over 25 years.
28. What does the underlined phrase “throw down” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Beat others. B. Take up challenges.
C.Create history. D.Get pleasure.
29. Why did Chelsea Sodaro win a big success in the race
A. She is good at various sports. B. Her preparation had gone well.
C. She is an experienced competitor. D. The local residents gave her support.
30. How did Chelsea Sodaro respond to stress before the race
A. By encouraging herself. B. By giving herself a short break.
C. By talking with her family. D. By adding more physical training.
31.What is the best title for the text
A. The Best IRONMAN Races in Kailua-Kona

Text 10
M: This is the local daily news. More than half of British airline pilots say they have fallen asleep during flight, a survey said yesterday.
According to BALPA, the British Airline Pilots’ Association, 300 out of 500 pilots surveyed admitted being asleep during work. And one third of these sleeping pilots said that they had woken up to find their co-pilot also asleep.
Pilot exhaustion became the headlines and aroused public concern this week when a newspaper reported two pilots on a British flight fell asleep, leaving the full plane traveling automatically in the air. The survey came before the European governments decide on the air rule changes.
The rule changes would mean that pilots could work a total of 110 hours in a two-week period, more than the 95-hour limit under the current regulations and at night pilots could be expected to fly for up to 11 hours, against a current 10-hour limit.
Many people are worried about the changes. Tiredness is already a major challenge for pilots who are deeply concerned that the new EU rules will increase levels of tiredness, which is believed to be the leading cause for air accidents, beating mechanical faults and natural threats such as storms or fogs.

The boy had to shoulder the burden to do a part-time job to help with the debt. These things impacted his grades. Mr. Morgan told Archie the principal’s plan and promised to help him out. “You’re meant for something better. Look at your hands; you should be holding books. As for the cooking, I can do it for you and you can focus on your study after the work,” Mr. Morgan said. It became a routine. Later, Archie’s grades improved and went to college.
Fifteen years later, successful Archie returned to his old school to thank Mr. Morgan. Walking down the familiar hallways, he felt excited. A familiar voice came and Archie recognized it immediately. “Mr. Morgan! It’s me, Archie. Do you remember me The boy who worked and never did his homework,” Archie revealed himself, throwing his arms to Mr. Morgan. Archie talked excitedly about the days when Mr. Morgan accompanied him and cooked for his family, making sure Archie had enough energy to study. Archie was a successful businessman now but he missed Mr. Morgan so he came back to thank him.
