Using Language(读写教学设计)
I. Learning objectives
At the end of the class, students are expected to:
1. Understand new vocabulary in the text and obtain the main content of the article;
2. Sort out people’s different attitudes towards technological development;
3. Use signposts to analyze structure and understand the writing style of argumentative writing;
4. Reasonably express their attitudes towards technological development and express views through effective argumentation in writing.
II. Analysis of the material
The theme of this section is “Welcome or reject future changes”. The text uses more writing techniques of refute dissertation. First, present opposing viewpoints, then refute them through argumentation to prove one’s own viewpoint. Starting from a specific accident, the text raises people’s concerns about new technologies and their rejection of technological development, and uses the Amish as an example to illustrate that people can live freely without relying on new technologies. Then, the text uses various conveniences brought by new technologies to argue for another viewpoint. Finally, the author presents his own viewpoint that the changes brought about by technological innovation should be viewed from a positive perspective.
III. Analysis of students
Students have active thinking and are interested in the technological change and emerging science and technology. Students have been exposed to practical writing that expresses their viewpoints and have a basic understanding of the structure of this kind of articles. But students have relatively weak writing abilities, and their dialectical thinking abilities need reasonable guidance. Therefore, during the teaching process, it is necessary to provide students with relevant vocabulary and sentence structures, and encourage students to participate in discussions and dialectical thinking on the topic through a series of activities.
IV. Teaching key and difficult points
Teaching key points:
1. Summarize the structure of the text and become familiar with signposts;
2. Analyze the writing style of refute dissertation and express viewpoints through effective argumentation in writing.
Teaching difficult point:
Expressing viewpoints on new technological changes in an organized manner in a refute dissertation.

Step 3: While-reading 1. Read the text and decide whether the statements are right or wrong. ·A person died in an accident while driving a car. ·The Amish avoid new technology because they do not want to have good lives. ·Many disasters have been prevented by weather-tracking computer programmes. ·Building large networks through social media helps us find new opportunities. ·The author uses a health monitor to know how much exercise he/she needs. 2. Read the text and fill in the forms. (1) Read para 1 and figure out attitudes and opinions of different sides towards driverless cars. (2) Read para 2-4 and find out the topic sentence and supporting details. (3) Answer the following questions about the text. · Which one shows the structure of the text · Why did the author write about this topic 互动方式:学生阅读语篇,完成正误判断、填写表格、回答问题等活动。 引导学生完成语篇阅读,了解文章细节内容,文章结构,写作手法。 获取与梳理,概括与整合,描述与阐述,内化与运用 学生能够形成对新科技发展的批判性认知,新科技的发展具备优势,也有挑战性。对议论文的结构形成基本认识。
Step 4: Post-reading 1. Find the signpost words or phrases in the text. How do they help tell us the purpose of the paragraphs 2. Summarize the structure of the argumentative writing. The issue – people’s opinions – author’s opinion 互动方式:学生小组找出标识性语言并回答问题,总结议论文的结构。 学生寻找标识性语言并分析其作用,总结议论文结构。 概括与整合 学生能够体会标识性语言的作用,通过对文章结构的分析,总结出议论文的篇章结构。
完成结构合理的议论文写作。 Step 5: Writing 1. Review the signpost words and phrases and the structure of the argumentative writing. 2. Write a passage. 随着人工智能的快速发展和普及,越来越多的中学生利用人工智能完成老师布置的作业。请你写一篇文章到校英文报投稿,说明你的看法。 要点包括: 1. 简介现象; 2. 正反方观点和理由; 3. 你的看法。 字数:80字左右。 3. Exchange your draft with a partner and help revise the draft. 互动方式:学生完成议论文写作并互评。 学生再次回顾标识性词汇以及议论文的结构,完成议论文写作。 概括与整合,内化与运用,批评与评价 学生能够深刻了解议论文的结构特征,形成条理清晰的写作思维,完成议论文写作,并完成互评。
VI. Homework
Write a passage with the topic “Should We Fight Against Cloning ”.
VII. Teaching Reflection
Students can learn the writing methods of argumentative essays by analyzing the structure of text through reading. Through language accumulation and analysis of the structure, students are able to imitate and write a well structured argumentative essay. But students have limited reading volume and insufficient application of argumentative language. It is necessary to strengthen the vocabulary of students and improve their reading and writing abilities.
