Greet the students and have a free talk about their hobbies and interests. T: Hello, boys and girls! How was your weekend Ss: Fine, thank you. T: Great! What do you like to do in your free time S1: I like playing basketball. S2: I like reading books. S3: I like listening to music. 2. Show some pictures of different clubs on the PPT and ask students if they have ever joined any clubs. T: Look at these pictures. These are some fun clubs. Have you ever joined a club like this Ss: Yes/No. Step 2: Pre-reading (5 minutes) 1. Present the words and phrases in the box on the blackboard and explain their meanings and usages. I love, I'd love to, I'm really interested in, Can I, I can, I can't T: Let's look at these words and phrases. "I love" means you have a strong affection for something. For example, "I love music." "I'd love to" is used to express your willingness to do something. Like "I'd love to go to the party." "I'm really interested in" shows that you have a great interest in something. "Can I" is a question to ask for permission. "I can" indicates your ability to do something, and "I can't" means you don't have the ability. 2. Ask students to make sentences with these words and phrases. T: Now, can you make some sentences with these words and phrases For example, "I'm really interested in drawing." Who wants to try S1: I love watching movies. S2: I can play the piano. S3: Can I go to the bathroom Step 3: While-reading (15 minutes) 1. Ask students to read the email in 2a quickly and answer the following questions. What kind of club does Bill have What does Xu Cong like to do T: Now, please read the email quickly and try to answer these two questions. I'll give you 2 minutes. T: Who can answer the first question S1: Bill has a reading club. T: Good job! How about the second question S2: Xu Cong likes reading all kinds of books. 2. Ask students to read the email again carefully and complete it with the words in the box. T: Now, read the email again carefully and fill in the blanks with the words in the box. You can work in pairs and discuss with your partner. I'll give you 5 minutes. T: Let's check the answers together. The first blank should be "I'm really interested in". Who can explain why S1: Because Xu Cong says he likes reading all kinds of books, which shows his great interest. T: Excellent! The second blank is "I can't". What about the third one S2: The third blank is "I'd love to". Because Xu Cong wants to read more and share his thoughts. T: Well done! The fourth blank is "Can I". Step 4: Post-reading (10 minutes) 1. Have students work in pairs and role-play the conversation between Xu Cong and Bill. They should use the target language and try to act it out vividly. I love reading all kinds of books. I can't read fast, but I'd love to find many good books to read. Can I join your club Bill: Of course! Welcome to our club. T: Great performance! Thank you. 2. Ask students to think about a club they want to join and write an email to the organizer. They should explain why they want to join the club. T: Now, think about a club you want to join and write an email to the organizer. You can refer to the email in 2a. I'll give you 10 minutes. T: Have you finished your emails Let's share some of them. Who wants to share first S1: (Read the email) Dear Organizer, I'm really interested in the music club. I love singing and playing musical instruments. I can play the guitar, but I can't play the piano very well. I'd love to improve my skills and make friends with other music lovers. Can I join your club Best, XXX T: Well written! Anyone else Step 5: Summary and Homework (5 minutes) 1. Summarize the key points of this lesson, including the target language and the format of an email. T: Today, we learned how to complete an email and write an email to express our desire to join a club. We also learned some useful words and phrases. Let's review them together. 2. Assign homework: Ask students to revise their emails and send them to the teacher by email. T: For homework, please revise your emails and send them to my email address.
