Text 10
W: In one small American city, snowball fights are not legal. Welcome to Severance, Colorado. The town, north of Denver, gets about 100 centimeters of snowfall a year. For almost 100 years, city rules have said it is not legal to throw or shoot stones or snowballs at people, animals, buildings, trees, or vehicles. Kyle Rietkerk works for the town of Severance. He said children cannot believe that it is not legal to have snowball fights in their hometown. He said town leaders have for years told the children, “You have the power; you can change the law.” But no one had tried until now. Nine-year-old Dane Best lives in Severance with his parents and little brother. He has made it his aim to get the snowball-fight ban removed. Dane says he believes the law is out of date. Dane wrote letters with his classmates in support of ending the ban. He says the first person he hopes to hit with a snowball is his four-year-old brother.

Teenage life is quite dramatic but that doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy your life in these years. Even with your daily troubles, your life is not very hard if you know how to deal with them.
I know exactly how you feel. Teenage life can be hard. You are not a kid anymore, because you are smart enough to consider your surroundings. However, you are still not an adult because there are still lots of experiences that you need to have and lessons that you need to learn from these experiences. Above all, the hormonal (荷尔蒙的) imbalance in your body can really mess you up. I have been there. I was in it for six years exploring what life is about!
As a teenager, I had a major problem completing my routine(日常的) tasks on time. And at that time, all that I needed to do was to finish my homework, study for the upcoming tests and clean my room. Now, I have much more things to do: cooking, cleaning and working while keeping a balance between all my relationships related to work, family and friends. That really is a lot of work. So, I will just give you one golden tip, “Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.”
Life becomes much easier now because I finish all my work on time and I have enough time to let my hair down. Half the problems of a teenager appear because we hate doing things. We’d rather go and have fun than sit down and take on our responsibilities. That is why you have so much trouble in your life; your parents won’t let you go out with friends because you haven’t cleaned your room or your teacher is always criticizing you because you haven’t finished your homework.

Small endangered animals are often hard to find in their natural habitats (栖息地), making it difficult for scientists to spot(发现) them and develop protection plans. But new technologies can help. Australian researchers have equipped flying drones (遥控飞机) with cameras so they can find koalas hiding high in trees.
Koalas spend most of their lives in eucalyptus trees(桉树) , whose leaves are their favorite food. Since the leaves are low in calories and nutritional content(营养成分), koalas are not very active — they sleep up to 20 hours a day. Living in high branches, they are not easy to spot from the ground, and they have few natural predators (捕食者). The greatest threat(威胁) to them is that lots of trees are being cut down. “Every single tree in Australia, right now, needs to be protected, and unless that happens I can promise you the koala is going to become extinct(灭绝),” said Deborah Tabart, from the Australian Koala Foundation.
Scientists studying koalas say one of the keys to saving animals is to know where they live and how many of them are left. Using drones fitted with cameras to conduct a census (数目调查) was an untested concept(未经试验的概念). Queensland Institute of Technology technician Gavin Broadbent said they were doubtful at first. “But when we saw the images come through, we saw the koalas were very clear compared to the trees and the environment. So we thought, yes, this is absolutely a proof(证据)of a concept that could work,” he said.
The images sent back to a computer clearly show the animal’s position, even from a distance far enough away not to disturb its sleep. Scientists can scan the trees from all angles(角度), picking out koalas even in the densest areas.
Scientists say it is now clear that drones with cameras can be used for spotting, and perhaps saving, other animals in the wild.
32.What can we learn about koalas from the second paragraph
A.Koalas have nothing to eat but eucalyptus leaves.
B.Koalas’ food is high in calories, so they are fat.
C.Koalas are not very active because they like sleeping.
D.Koalas live in high branches so they are difficult to spot.
33.What is making the number of koalas decrease(下降)
A.Hunting. B.Their natural predators.
C.Destroying of their habitat. D.Climate change.
34.Which of the following is NOT an advantage of the new method to spot koalas
A.It can help prevent koalas from becoming extinct.
B.The pictures shot by the cameras clearly show koalas’ position.
C.It can be carried out without disturbing koalas’ sleep.
D.The koalas in the densest areas can be picked out with this method.
35.What would be the best title for the text
A.How Koalas Live in Australia
B.Drones Help Scientists Spot Endangered Koalas
C.Measures Must Be Taken to Protect Koalas’ Habitat
D.The Number of the Koalas Is Decreasing Sharply
