You might sometimes feel that life is boring and repetitive. One way to change this is by adding a sense of ceremony(仪式). Today, young people are the most creative — they personalize celebrations to make everyday life more exciting.
Li Xinran is one of these people. In May, she celebrated her 27th birthday with friends, during which she introduced a special dress code(着装规定) — attendees dress according to their personality types(类型).
“The personalities are tied to our true characters and how we communicate with one another, so everyone was very excited during the preparations,” she explained.
While many young people enjoy planning their own celebrations, some choose to pay to do it, leading to the rise of “party planning” as a growing business in recent years.
Hu Mengdi, 25, is a party planner living in Chengdu. “It’s so interesting to plan parties for people with different needs.” she said. One of her most unforgettable events included five elderly women who wanted to celebrate Father’s Day for their husbands. These women allowed her to see that romance(浪漫) has nothing to do with age.
“Life is more than just living. The small surprises from a simple ceremony make our daily life brighter,” Hu said.
According to Ren Danhua, 24, a sociology graduate student at Wuhan University, a sense of ceremony plays a key role in self-identity(自我认知) and personal satisfaction.
“A sense of ceremony can be achieved without talking with others. For example, if I were to celebrate my birthday alone, I might get myself a birthday cake. This simple act is also a type of ceremony,” Ren explained.
So why not give our life a sense of ceremony
23. Who might be the most creative to celebrate everyday life
A. A 2-year-old baby. B. A 23-year-old girl. C. A 60-year-old man.

A. Party planning is becoming more and more popular.
B. Personalities don’t influence the way we communicate.
C. A sense of ceremony can only be achieved with others.
25. How is the passage developed
A. By expressing reasons. B. By giving examples. C. By listing steps.
26. What’s the main idea of this passage
A. The creativity of people helps with people’s development.

C. The sense of ceremony adds meaningfulness to people’s life.

On October 7, 2024, two scientists, Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, won the Nobel Prize in Physiology(生理学) or Medicine. They are given the prize for their amazing discovery of microRNA, which helps control how our genes(基因) work.
You might wonder how all our cells(细胞) know what to do. Every cell in our body has the same set of instructions(指南), just like a cookbook. However, different types of cells do very different jobs.
Ambros and Ruvkun studied how these different cells develop and found tiny molecules(分子) called microRNAs. These molecules act like tiny helpers that control gene activity. Their research showed that microRNAs are very important for the growth and health of all living things, including humans!
What’s exciting is that the human genome(基因组), which is our complete set of genes, has over a thousand different microRNAs. This discovery means a lot for human beings, because it revealed a new way in which our bodies use genetic information. No scientists had discovered it before.
Thanks to Ambros and Ruvkun, we now understand that these tiny RNA molecules are important for how bodies develop and work. Their work not only helps us learn more about biology but also opens up new ideas for medicine and health. So, next time you think about how our bodies work, remember these tiny helpers playing a big role in our lives!
