Are you sleeping well One third of a person’s life is spent sleeping, so sleep is a very important topic. How much do you know about sleep Do you know what kind of relationship there is between sleep and memory
In psychology, memory is learning that has continued over time. Memory is divided into three stages, one is sensory memory, one is short-term memory, and the other is long-term memory. Long-term memory is divided into situational memory (语义记忆), and procedural memory related to “how to do”.
After understanding memory, what is a sleep stage Sleep is divided into several different stages as follows, the first stage is just getting ready for sleep, then gently falling asleep, then we go into the deep sleep stage, and finally the rapid eye movement stage.
You might think that your brain rests when you sleep, but that’s not the case. In fact, our brain is working very hard when we are sleeping.
There are different forms of brain waves that match different stages of sleep. When we are just about to get ready for sleep, our brain waves go into a steady (稳定的) and rhythmic state, the brain waves will become slower. This stage is very important for our long-term memory. Besides, it’s good for getting rid of tiredness (免疫力) against disease. Finally in the rapid eye movement stage, this is when we are often dreaming.
Why do we sleep Two very important reasons are that sleep can be very helpful in our health, reducing stress, and that during sleep the brain cleans up waste in the brain and then helps to make those new memories form long-term memories. So when we don’t get enough sleep, we have mood swings, overeating and other problems.
Obviously, having a goodnight’s sleep is important for our memory.
44. Why do the writer use the questions in the first paragraph
A. To get readers’ answers. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To show the writer’s interest. D. To give readers’ suggestions.
45. The second and third paragraphs are about ________.
A. 3 stages of memory and 3 stages of sleep B. relationship between memory and sleep
C. 3 stages of memory and 4 stages of sleep D. long-term memory and stages of sleep
46. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Our brain is in the state (状态) of working when we are sleeping.
B. The brain waves becomes slower when we get ready for sleep.
C. We’ll lose our memory and get angry easily with enough sleep.
D. The deep sleep stage is only important for our long-term memory.
47. After the last paragraph, the writer may write about “_________”.
A. Why sleep is important to us B. How we have a good memory
C. When we can go to bed D. How we have a goodnight’s sleep

As soon as Ryan Marcelo turns on his computer, time seems to stop. After starting playing his favourite game, his eyes fixed on the characters on the screen. “I play every day, sometimes for more than four hours,” Ryan, a 14-year-old Canadian boy, said, “When I finish playing, my eyes are heavy and I just feel really tired.”
A familiar(熟悉的) story In families with children and computers, there’s a good chance of meeting children like Ryan, who spend too much time in front of their computers. And these children are starting to feel pains as a result of long-time computer use.
“What we’re seeing is that children’s levels of computer-related (由电脑引起的) discomfort are close to adults,” said Ms. Fraser, an engineer. “They’re reporting that they have problems with their eyes, and that they’re feeling discomfort in their necks, backs and in their hands, arms and wrists.”
A research report show computing has become an everyday part of life for Canadian children. Nearly 40%of children aged 4 to 11 have their own computers, and more than 20% have mobile phones. They use them to send messages to friends too often.
But is the growing use of technology among children the main reason for computer-related health problems Although there is little research in this area, the few studies suggest that such problems are quite common among children and teens. The researchers studied students aged 10 to 17 with laptop programmes. They found that about 60% said they felt uncomfortable, mostly in the neck and shoulder areas.
Part of the problem is that many of today’s computer games aren’t specially designed for children’s hands. Also most keyboards and computer mouses are too big for them. When children use the computer, they’re usually sitting in an adult-sized chair facing an adult-sized desk. And they need to take breaks—once every 20 minutes—where they get up for at least two minutes and walk.
48. The example of Ryan Marcelo in Paragraph 1 is to _____________.
A. give some details B. draw a conclusion
C. make a comparison D. introduce the topic
49. What does the underlined word “discomfort” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. A feeling of pain. B. A feeling of sadness.
C. A feeling of excitement. D. A feeling of tiredness
50. Which of the following is TRUE
A. Both adults and children are feeling computer-related discomfort.
B. Most people have problems with their eyes, ears, necks and hands.
C. Half of the Canadian children have computers and mobile phones.
D. Canadian children watch short videos on mobile phones too often.
51. What is the main reason for children’s computer-related health problems
A. Adult-sized chairs and desks. B. The growing use of technology.
C. Children’s favourite computer games. D. Big keyboards and computer mouses.
52. What may be the best title of the text
A. Ryan’s Health Problem B. Say No to Video Games
