The Plsstlc Bottle Vlllagc will show up
According to experts, over 22,000 plastic bottles are thrown away every second, and the
number is still growing. 36 a small pan of them get recycled, most end up in the ocean.
There, they break up into small pieces. Fish and birds often regard them-llfood by mistake,
which is dangerous for them.
Now, Roben has 38 an idea that may not solve the world's plastic problems, but \yill
at least make progress and hopefully inspfue (&#) others. He plans to use the plastic bottles to
build a village in thc forest ofBocas Del Toro, Panama.
Robert is a Canadian businessman. Hc has been living in the central American country for
many years. He siarted Bocas Del Toro's 39 project in 2012, after noticing plastic waste
beins 40 thrown away on the island's beautiful beaches. During one year and a half, Robert
and his volunteers collected over a million plastic bottles!
tn 2015, he had the idea ofusing the 41 to build houses, and then the Plastic Bottle
Mllage was bom. The project is on an island in the Bocas Del Toro. It's still in its beginning. So
far, they have 42 only a number of houses. But if Robert has his wan there will soon be a
special community, and 90 to 120 43 will live in the Plastic Bottle Village.
Ifhe can raise enough money, Bezeau also plans to build an education center with students
dormitories (fde). He wants 44 to leam how to use the plastic waste.
Recycling plastic bottl?s is 45 in cutting down the amount ofplastic that ends up in our
oceans each year, but the smartest thing to do is to avoid them completely. So do your part.

As climate change brings dangers to people, we are now facing
another problem-underground climate change.
With the development of cities, the rising underground
temperatue is causing the ground to heat up and deform ( A U ), reported a study team fiom
Northwestem University, US. In the last thrce years, the team had put morc than t50 temperature
sensors (d& #) under Chicago. The temperatures they recorded were surprisiog. For example,
air temperatures in underground can be up lo 25"C higher than thc normal ground temperatue.
After collecting information in Chicago, the team created computer models to see how
temperatures will influeDce the ground ultil 2051 .
The models showed, when heated, the ground may go up by as much as 12 centimeteis, or go
/L+4Ei{E H8E*12E
{#{QQABTYCEggCIABJAAQhCUQWwCEMQkhEAASgOgBAMIAABCQNABAA=}#}
down by as much as 0.8 centimeters. This may even cause the ground to break up, leaving people
who live and work above in dangerous situations,
However, Rotta Loria, who led the study, said in a report "it tskes a long time to see the bad
effects". As scientists have aheady known a lot about underground climate change, future plans
for cities should be considered. Materials that take in heat can be used to keep the heat from
entering thc ground.
The team also pointed out that the rising temperature could be seen as an opportunity. City
plann?rs can try to collect hcat underground and send it abovc for heating.
61. According to the passage, what may NOT happen to the ground when heated
A. It may go up. B. It may go down.
C. lt may break up. D. It may become smaller.
62. How does the writer express his idea in Paragraph 2
A. By telling a story. B. By asking a question.
C. By showing a picture. D. By giving an example.
63. What can we do to avoid tbe underground climate change
A. The number ofpeople who take the underground should be limited.
B. Fans should be fixed in the ground,
C. The materials that can take in heat should be used.
D. More sensors can be put in the ground to record the kmperature.
64. What can we infer (# {) from the passage
A. The underground heat may bc used to wann the house in winter.
B. Climate change influences the underground temperature.
C. The underground temperature has riser to 25oC.
