Race at River’s Edge
Like me, my cousin Gabriel is into riding bikes. He’s 16 and I’m allowed to join him on longer rides because we’ re training for a charity cycling event.
One day, after checking our tires (轮胎), we set out for Tournus. Upon arrival, Gabriel and I parked our bikes near the river and walked to the town square. We’d just ridden 33 kilometers, and we were starving. We planned to get lunch and then ride to M con, a small city in France on the Sa ne River.
It was market day. Locals were busy filling their baskets with groceries. Tourists hunted for gifts. Gabriel and I bought a long, thin loaf of bread and some Brie, a soft cheese which tasted awesome.
As we ate, I noticed a girl wearing a USA Basketball T- shirt. She smiled at us.
Basketball is big in France too. You can even watch NBA games on TV. The girl stopped to buy some bread with her mum.
I saw them again by the river. They sat on a bench enjoying their food in front of a long, narrow riverboat named Voyageur. Then they boarded the boat. It was preparing to leave. Suddenly, I spotted a colorful shopping bag on the bench. The girl had left it! I looked up. Some passengers were gathering on the upper deck (甲板) of the riverboat, including the girl and her mum. I held up the bag and waved it to get their attention while Gabriel called to them.
When the girl noticed the bag, she opened her mouth in surprise. But her face fell as the boat started to pull away from the dock (码头). She didn’t think she’d get the stuff back.
Running alongside the boat Gabriel learned from a sailor that the boat’s next stop was M con—— our destination as well. It would take the boat just under two hours at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour.“ What can we do then ” he said.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
P1:“We have to find a way to return it” I replied.
P2:Then it happened: pffft! Flat tire!
P1: "We have to find a way to return it,”I replied.
P2: Then it happened: pffft! Flat tire!
had a head start
take a shorter route
hopped onto our bikes
powered through each pedal stroke
twisted and turned
pushed ourselves to ride faster
my bike wobbled.
skidded to a halt
flat tire
my back wheel wobbled
sped off down the road
pushed my bike off to the side
范文
P1: "We have to find a way to return it," I replied. Gabriel and I quickly realized that we still had a chance to beat the boat to M con if we rode fast enough. While the riverboat followed the winding waterway, we could take a shorter, more direct route along the riverbank. Without a second thought, we hopped onto our bikes and started pedaling furiously. The road twisted and turned through fields and villages, but we pushed harder with each turn. The girl’s look of disappointment spurred us on, motivating us to ride even harder. Every pedal stroke felt urgent as we flew past the scenic countryside, hearts racing, our only goal to reach the dock before the boat.
P2: Then it happened: pffft! Flat tire! My back wheel wobbled wildly, and I nearly lost control. I had to pull over. Gabriel screeched to a stop beside me, eyes wide with worry. “Take my bike!” he urged. Determination kicking in, I jumped onto his bike, leaving him to deal with the flat tire. I took off again, my legs screaming in protest, but I wouldn’t slow down. I had to make it. As I sped around the final bend, the riverboat loomed into view, just beginning to dock. On the upper deck the familiar USA Basketball T-shirt in view, I raced ahead, holding up the shopping bag. Her eyes lit up in surprise, and a broad smile spread across her face with hands waving excitedly.
“We have to find a way to return it,” I replied. Without hesitation, we grabbed our bikes and quickly calculated the time it would take to beat the boat to M con. It would be close, but if we rode fast enough, we just might make it. Gabriel and I jumped on our bikes and started pedaling as hard as we could. The wind blew against our faces as we raced along the river’s edge, the boat visible in the distance. The road was narrow and uneven at times, but we pushed forward, determined to return the girl’s bag. With each passing minute, my legs burned, but I couldn’t give up. The smile on the girl’s face kept flashing through my mind, urging me to ride faster.
Then it happened: pffft! Flat tire! I looked down in horror as my back wheel wobbled dangerously. “No! Not now!” I groaned. Gabriel stopped and looked at me with a worried expression. We had no time to fix it. “You go on without me!” I urged him. “I’ll catch up somehow.” Without arguing, Gabriel nodded, took the bag from me, and sped off down the road. I watched him disappear into the distance, feeling a mix of frustration and hope. I quickly pushed my bike off to the side and started running. Despite the setback, I wasn’t giving up. As I neared M con, I saw Gabriel waiting by the dock, a triumphant grin on his face. The boat had just arrived, and the girl was joyfully holding her shopping bag, waving to us in gratitude.
