In the summer, the State Rooms in the palace are open to the public for tours. However, much of the Queen’s home is off limits. It is reported that the most expensive home in Europe at an estimated 1.5 billion includes 775 rooms.
The Richest YouTube channel recently took viewers on a tour of the grand inside part of one of the most famous residences in the world.

Real legacy of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games may be creation of new generation of young athletes. Schoolchildren slid around on roller skates, passing the puck (冰球) on an artificial ice field and practicing cross-country skiing skills on roller skis on a cool afternoon at the Yangfangdian Central Primary School in Beijing’s Haidian District. In one of the classrooms, photos commemorating (用以纪念) the school’s connection with the Olympics and trophies (奖杯) won at numerous competitions were on display.
Zhou Chenguang, the sports teacher for the fourth, fifth and sixth grades, is one of the teachers who helped make all of this happen. He has taught at the school for 32 years and is a crazy fan of the Games. “Our physical education classes are about enjoyment and competition, and ultimately, they’ve taught our children about the Winter Olympics and generated a passion for winter sports,” said Zhou, 52. “By knowing more about sports, our children have a greater chance of competing in the real Games in the future.”
In 2016, Zhou introduced hockey lessons to the primary school’s PE classes. “Demonstrating the popularity of winter sports at schools in Beijing should not just be a slogan. We must let students play real winter sports and learn the rules,” he said.
Students from the fourth grade and above can participate in winter sports classes, but Xu Hengyu, a 10-year-old fifth grader, began to learn cross-country skiing on roller skis by herself when she was in the third grade. “I saw some senior class students practicing and thought it would be fun to do,” Xu said. “When I got home, I asked my father to buy me a pair of roller skis and started to practice in our neighborhood.”

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot from OpenAI, an AI technology company in San Francisco. It can produce any kind of writing as required. Many schools are afraid that ChatGPT could result in dishonesty and harm learning. So the tool, called AI Text Classifier from the same maker, is invented. Its task is to decide whether the writing was produced by students or by AI programs.
OpenAI warns that its new tool—like others already in use—is not perfect. The method for detecting AI-written writing “will be wrong sometimes,” said Jan Leike of OpenAI. “Because of that,” he added, “it shouldn’t be only relied upon when making decisions.”
Teenagers and college students were among the millions of people who began experimenting with ChatGPT after it was put into use on November 30. The tool is a free service on OpenAI’s website. Many people have found ways to use it creatively and harmlessly. Still, some teachers are worried that it could be used to cheat.
So far public schools in some cities, such as New York City and Los Angeles, began to block its use in classrooms and on school computers. Public schools in Seattle blocked ChatGPT on all school computers but then opened it to teachers. One spokesman Tim Robinson said teachers wanted to use ChatGPT as a teaching tool. “We can’t afford to ignore it,” Robinson said. Students could also use the service as a “personal teacher” or to help create ideas when doing homework, Robinson said.
OpenAI talked about its new tool on a blog recently. But the company added that the tool could help to find some mistakes in writing as well as catch cheating. The longer a piece of writing is, the better the tool is at deciding whether an AI system or a human wrote something.
28. Who are more likely to use AI Text Classifier
A. Students. B. Parents. C. Teachers. D. Writers.
29. What is Leike’s attitude towards AI Text Classifier
A. Positive. B. Cautious. C. Unconcerned. D. Satisfied.
30. Why are some teachers worried about ChatGPT
A. Students will take advantage of it to cheat.
B. They can’t use it as a teaching tool.
C. It costs the users a lot of money.
D. It often makes wrong decisions.
31. What can we learn from the example of ChatGPT
A. Rome was not built in one day. B. A good beginning is half done.
C. A bit is better than nothing. D. Every coin has its two sides.
D
Many teachers believe frequent quizzes (测验) help students better grasp classroom material. Crede, an associate professor of psychology, was doubtful that something as simple as a quiz could positively affect students’ academic performance. He decided to dig deeper and conduct an analytic study of existing research to see if there was any proof to the idea. What he discovered truly surprised him.
Crede analyzed data from previously published studies that examined 52 classes with almost 8,000 students, primarily college-level courses, to determine if frequent quizzes improved the students’ academic performance. Laboratory settings were kept out of the study because Crede wanted to observe whether similar studies from labs would apply to general classrooms.
Crede discovered that when students are quizzed over class material at least once a week, they tend to perform better on midterm and final exams compared to students who did not take quizzes. He also found that students who took frequent quizzes were less likely to fail the class, particularly if they were struggling with the course content. Students who struggle the most in a class seem to benefit the greatest from frequent quizzes. The other surprising thing was how much quizzes helped reduce failure rates in classes. The chances of passing a class went through the roof where instructors used this. In addition to quiz frequency, another factor that seemed to positively affect students’ performance was immediate feedback (反馈) from instructors. Also, quizzes that required students to answer with written responses proved more beneficial to their understanding of class material compared to multiple-choice questions.
Asking teachers to grade written quizzes daily or weekly may discourage some from carrying them out in their classes. Instead, it is suggested that instructors give online quizzes that can be automatically graded by a course management system. Quiz attributes (属性) proved insignificant in the study, including whether the tests were pop quizzes or planned, or if they were online or on paper.
32. What did Crede do to make sure his study’s correctness
A. He researched many students.
B. He focused on what happened in classrooms.
C. He made laboratory settings as real as possible.
D. He gave easy quizzes to make every student do well.
33. What does the underlined part “went through the roof” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Appeared. B. Prohibited. C. Rose. D. Lost.
34. What did Crede discover in his study
A. Frequent quizzes could remove students’ failure in classes.
B. Multiple-choice questions shouldn’t be included in frequent quizzes.
C. Instructors’ feedback was more important than frequent quizzes.
D. Frequent quizzes were especially useful to the struggling students.
35. What may be a disadvantage of frequent quizzes for teachers
A. Having too many exam papers to mark.
B. Accessing the Internet less frequently.
C. Being unable to get suitable test materials.
D. Finding it hard to choose the right type of quiz.

Amy and I had been best friends since primary school and spent almost every day with each other. Sometimes, other children said we were no fun because we were both very academic and liked to study, but we liked it that way. Both of us were very hard-working and always got good grades at school.
I thought we would be like this forever, however, our friendship was on the rocks recently.
One Monday, we had a surprise math quiz. I thought it was quite easy and was not worried about the results.
I must have sounded very proud of myself after the quiz, saying how easy it was and how I was sure to get a good grade. And many classmates looked at me with admiration.
The next day after class, my math teacher told me that I had the lowest grade in the class! I felt so ashamed and couldn’t believe it; I must be really stupid to fail a simple math quiz!
Afterwards, I pretended to be cheerful and greeted others with a smile as usual, but Amy sensed something was wrong.
We went to wash our hands in the girls’ washroom before lunch. She patted me on the shoulder and asked me what happened. Seeing her concerned look, I had to admit how badly I had done in the math quiz. I begged her not to tell anyone else, and couldn’t help sobbing (啜泣). She held me tightly, saying she would keep my secret, and cheered me up.
However, the next day, I noticed that my classmates were staring at me as I came into math class, when I went to sit down, I was shocked to find a piece of paper on my desk that said, “...Stupid Sarah got a D!” I was so upset that I felt like crying.

Students could also use the service as a “personal teacher” or to help create ideas when doing homework, Robinson said.
由第二段中的“Laboratory settings were kept out of the study because Crede wanted to observe whether similar studies from labs would apply to general classrooms.”(实验室环境被排除在研究之外, 因为 Crede 希望观察实验室的类似研究是否适用于普通教室。)
由第三段中的“The other surprising thing was how much quizzes helped reduce failure rates in classes.”(另一件令人惊讶的事情是,小测验有助于降低课堂上的失败率。)
由第三段中的“He also found that students who took frequent quizzes were less likely to fail the class, especially if they were struggling with the course content. Students who struggle the most in a class seem to benefit the greatest from frequent quizzes.”(他还发现,经常参加小测验的学生不太可能不及格,尤其是当他们在课程内容上遇到困难时。
由最后一段中的“Asking teachers to grade written quizzes daily or weekly may discourage some from carrying them out in their classes.”(要求老师每天或每周给书面测验打分可能会阻碍一些人在课堂上实施这些做法。) 故选 A 项。
第二节
36-40 BGEDC
根据该段中的“When you notice anything good that happens, you’ll realize that the world has so much to offer to you.”
41.A 根据下文 As my car was...
42.B 根据下句中的信息;...and the wait at the checkout counter was long.
“be packed with”意为“挤满,塞满”。
46.C 根据上文第 45 空所在句子“I found myself in the middle of a long line of cars...”
Please Help!”
54.A 根据该空后的信息“...forced me to drive on”可知,应该是“我”后面的司机在催促“我”。
56.D “ make a difference”
“in the eyes of sb.”
①由第一段首句内容“Then I began to cry, wondering who let out my secret—was it Amy (然后我开始哭泣,想知道是谁泄露了我的秘密,是 Amy 吗?)”
②由第二段首句内容“Shocked by Alice’s truth, I hurried to say sorry to Amy.(当从 Alice 那里听到真相时,我很震惊,迫不及待地找到艾米道歉。)”

(Text 10)
W: I’ve always had a strong interest in acting and singing but when I started performing in plays and musicals locally, I realized that my true love was acting. It was a tough journey, but I worked hard and never gave up. I was turned down for different roles in nearby states, but I never let it get me down. I made up my mind to succeed, and it finally paid off. Luckily, I now work all around the world with some great people.
I made a mistake early in my job by trying to compete with other actors to get the best parts. I regret that now. I’ve learned that it’s better to support and help others instead of trying to outdo them.
Now, I try to find challenging roles that are different from what I’ve done before. I take risks and I am open to new opportunities. For example, I turned down a part in a film because I thought the writing was bad, and it ended up winning many awards. It was a tough lesson, but it helped me develop my present style.
I’m grateful to do what I love every day, with some great people. I hope to continue to grow and improve as I take on new and exciting challenges in the future.
