母亲节的由来
Mother's Dayis on the second Sunday in May. It is a day to honor mothers. On that day mothers usually receive flowers and cards.
On the cards, children often write, "Thanks, Mom", "To the best mother in the world" and so on. Then where did the idea for the holiday come from We should thank Miss Anna Marie Jarvis. It is she who brought up the idea of having such a day. She lived in West Virginia. Anna's mother was a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the Civil War and created Mother's Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. Her mother died on May 9th, 1905.On the anniversary of her mother's death, she invited some friends to an informal memorial meeting. In 1907, a church service was held on her mother's death anniversary. Anna's love for her mother moved other people. Besides, she wrote letters to important persons of the country suggesting a public holiday to honor all mothers. In 1914, the United States Congress agreed that the second Sunday in May should be appointed as Mother's Day. Finally, the decision was announced by President Wilson.

A MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother's Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and add in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

When their father understood what had happened, he smiled widely. "Do you need help " he asked. With his help, they quickly made new French toast and chicken porridge. The kitchen smelled very good. When everything was ready, their father left the kitchen and promised not to tell anyone
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. When their mother opened her eyes, still sleepy, she saw her children smiling and the delicious food"Happy Mother's Day!" the twins shouted happily. "Did you make all of this " their mother asked, surprised. The twins nodded proudly and looked at their father, smiling secretly. After trying the toast and hot porridge, their mother kissed their foreheads gently, "This is the best food I've ever had," she said, her eyes shining and face full of joy. The room was filled with happy laughter, making the morning even more enjoyable.

As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. Glancing at the disordered kitchen, he grinned with joy. “Are you making breakfast for you mother, kids ” The twins nodded, “But all of our efforts were in vain.” Jenna sighed in frustration. “Don’t worry. You still have ample time.” The father said encouragingly. Under the instruction of the father, Jeff adjusted the fire carefully and put the porridge pot onto it. Next Jenna cut off another two slices of bread, immersing it into the egg mixture. While Jeff watching the stove carefully, Jenna fried bread to an appropriate color, which is so tempting. Finally, they put some chicken into the porridge and the breakfast was done.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. Upon opening eyes, what greeted her instantly was a plate of hot and tasty breakfast. “Happy Mother’s Day!” exclaimed the kids excitedly. “Thank you. It’s really a big surprise!” said mom, as if choked to tears. With the company of the two kids, mom devoured the breakfast quickly. The fried French toast was soft and thick, while chicken porridge was warm and juicy. Hugging Jenna and Jeff tightly, mom smiled, “This is the best Mother’s Day”. With a heart filled with love, you are bound to give your beloved mother an unforgettable Mother’s Day surprise, no matter how arduous it might be.
save money for a mother's day gift
A 12-year-old boy saw something in a shop window that set his heart racing. It was a jewel box. But the price—five dollars—was far beyond Reuben Earle’s means. However, he opened the door and went inside. Standing proud and straight, he told the shopkeeper what he wanted, adding, “But I don’t have the money right now. Can you please hold it for me for some time ”
“I’ll try,” the shopkeeper smiled.
“I will raise the five dollars and not tell anybody,” Reuben said to himself.
Hearing the sound of hammering from a side street, Reuben had an idea. People built their own homes in Bay Roberts, using nails purchased in sacks (麻布袋) from a local factory. Sometimes the sacks were abandoned, and Reuben knew he could sell them back to the factory for five cents apiece.
That day he found two sacks and sold to the man in charge of packing nails.
The boy’s hand tightly held the five-cent pieces as he ran home. Near his house stood the ancient barn (谷仓). Reuben found a soda tin and dropped his coins inside. Then he climbed into the top of the barn and hid the tin.
All summer long, despite housework at home Reuben kept to his secret task. Often he was cold, tired and hungry, but the thought of the object in the shop window sustained(维持/支撑) him.
Mother’s Day had come! He uncovered the tin can, poured the coins out and began to count. He needed 20 cents more. He had to find four more sacks and sell them before the day ended.
Towards evening Reuben arrived at the factory. The sack buyer was about to lock up.
“Mister! Please don’t close up yet.”
The man turned and saw Reuben, dirty and sweat stained.
“Come back tomorrow, boy.”
“Please, Mister. I have to sell the sacks now — please.”

Reuben murmured a thank you and ran home. Then, holding the tin can in his hand, he headed for the shop. “I have the money.” he told the owner proudly. The man went to the window and fetched Reuben’s treasure. He wiped the dust off and gently wrapped it in brown paper.
Then the shopkeeper placed the parcel(包裹) in Reuben’s hands. Racing home, Reuben burst through the front door. “Here, Mum! Here!” Reuben exclaimed as he ran to her excitedly. Then he placed a small box in her work roughened hand. Mum unwrapped it carefully. A blue-velvet jewel box appeared. Mum gently lifted the lid, with tears welling up in her eyes. She had never received such a precious gift. A smile flashing across her face, she held Reuben tightly in her arms.
Mother’s Day for Aunt Kimmie
Like every other Sunday morning, Kimmie’s sister, Patty, dropped her children, Jeremiah and Rachel, off at Kimmie’s apartment at around 6:30 a.m. before she went on her way to work.
And, just like every other Sunday morning, they all went back to sleep for a couple of hours. When everyone awoke, Kimmie made a quick breakfast and then they hurried and got themselves out the door for the park, just like every other Sunday morning.
It wasn’t until they walked pass and saw a girl they knew standing there passing out flowers that Kimmie remembered this wasn’t like every other Sunday morning, it was Mother’s Day.
Before Kimmie could stop him, Jeremiah, always the curious child, went up to the girl and tugged on her arm. “Linda, what are you doing ” He asked.
Linda smiled at him and said brightly, “I’m giving a flower to every mother today because it’s Mother’s Day.”
Jeremiah’s eyes grew bright. “My mom had to work today. Can I have a flower to take home to give her ”
“Of course.” Linda answered, and lowered the box she was holding so that Jeremiah could pick out a flower for Patty.
Jeremiah turned towards Kimmie, proudly holding a pink carnation in his hand. He smiled at her. His dark eyes danced with pride and love and excitement.
Kimmie smiled at him and motioned for him to come with her, but instead, he turned back towards Linda. “Can I please have a flower for Aunt Kimmie too ”
That was the last thing Kimmie had expected Jeremiah to do. It was one of the sweetest and most sincere things she had ever heard him say. But neither of them was ready for what happened next.
“Oh, no, Jeremiah. She can’t have a flower. She isn’t a mom.” Linda replied.
After they came back home, Jeremiah went to the courtyard of the apartment building.

Immediately, the sparkle in Jeremiah’s eyes faded with disappointment. Gone was a happy child, and in its place stood a discouraged boy. At this sight, Kimmie’s heart ached. However, a second thought brought her pure delight: she figured out how much Jeremiah loved her. “Darling, it doesn’t matter,” she said, patting his hand in a loving manner, “because you are the sweetest flower I have ever had.” Mercifully, his face expanded with a satisfied smile. Hand in hand, they continued their way to the park.
After they came back home, Jeremiah went to the courtyard of the apartment building.Kimmie was preparing lunch in the kitchen when a voice came, a lovely voice from Jeremiah, “Aunt Kimmie.” The moment she turned around, a bunch of flowers came into her sight. “Happy Mother’s Day!” Never had Kimmie imagined her Mother’s Day would come in such a romantic way. “Jeremiah,” tears welled up in her eyes as she knelt down, took the flowers and gathered him in her arms. “I love you. It’s you that transformed this common Sunday morning into my precious memory.”
Mother's Day roses
Tom was working in a big company. He had been on the road visiting people for more than a month without going home. He couldn't wait to get back to see his wife and children. It was coming up on Mother's Day, and he usually tried to make it "back home", but this year he was just too busy and too tired. The day when he was driving in a small town, he saw a flower shop. He said to himself, “l know what I will do. I'll send my mother some roses."
He stopped and went into the flower shop and saw a young man talking to the girl in it. “How many roses can l get for five dollars, Ms " the boy asked. The girl was trying to explain that roses were expensive. Maybe the young man would be happy with something else.
“No, I have to have roses," he said, "my mum was badly sick last year and l didn't get to spend much time with her. l want to get something special. It has to be red roses, because that is her favorite." He was stubborn.

Tom ordered his own flowers and asked the girl to have it delivered to his mother. After that, with a relief he drove down the road. Not long after his driving, he saw the boy walking to a graveyard(幕地).

On the walk home from school,my friend, Cherry, happily said, “Tomorrow is Mother's Day. I’ve been saving up for the past month and plan to buy my mother the perfume(香水) she's been wanting for so long.” Her excitement made me realize that I hadn't prepared anything special yet. But I only had a little money left. I began to regret spending so much on snacks every day. “See you next week!" Cherry's voice pulled me back to reality. We waved goodbye as she went into a perfume shop.
I continued walking along the road, carefully thinking about what gift I should choose. I planned to buy something like flowers or chocolate, but now it seemed like those were way too simple. Therefore, I pushed open the door to a mall and tried to find the perfect gift. The bright lights illuminated(照亮) the collection of various goods. I picked up a lipstick but immediately put it back after seeing its price. I could never afford that! Then I walked into another shop and saw a lovely cup. This cup, besides being beautiful, would also remind my mother to drink water. It'd be a wonderful gift. I picked it up and turned it over to see the price, hoping it was not too expensive. But once again, I couldn't afford it even with all the money that I had. Feeling sad, I continued to wander around the shops. Time flew by quickly, and before I knew it, the sky began to darken, so I had to go home.
Since there was no time or money for me to pick out a gift,I decided to make a simple card. When I finished, the clock on my bedroom wall struck 11 pm. I held up the card, examining its hard cover, handwritten letters, and the tiny pictures I'd drawn of my mom and me. It's probably never going to compare to the expensive gifts that my friends bought for their mothers, I thought sadly.

优秀范文
Soon, morning came, and it was time to give my mother my handmade card. Ill at ease, I stepped into the kitchen where Mom was busy making pancakes for breakfast. The air was filled with the dairy sweetness of the pancakes. “Hey, Mom,” I said in a low voice. As she turned around, I took out the card, handed it over and smiled shyly, “Happy Mother's Day!” With a sparkle of excitement in her eyes, she gently took the card from me and started to read it.
“I love this card!"My mother said excitedly. “Really ” I almost yelled out. She replied, “Yeah, I love the words and drawings. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much, dear.” The smile on her face made it all worthwhile. Tears misting my eyes, I told Mom what I was worried about. Mom hugged me and kissed me lightly on the cheek. She told me it was the love behind the gift that mattered most.

As we get older there are certain gifts standing out in our memories for a variety of reasons.
One gift I was given and treasured most was a doll named Patsy. She wasn't originally mine but was my younger sister's Christmas gift, but on holding Patsy I immediately fell in love with her and couldn't bear to part with her. Luckily, my sister was quite happy to exchange dolls. From then on Patsy was my baby and I continued to love her dearly and would have died for her.
Another gift I offered my Mom has been shining in my mind. On a Saturday, I was on my way to the local cinema when I happened to glimpse at the window of the gift shop at the corner of our street. There were lovely gloves, pretty flowered handkerchiefs, and rose patterned teacups and saucers, all in pretty boxes. Seeing all these lovely gifts reminded me that it would soon be Mother's Day and my mother's birthday. Wouldn't it be nice, I thought, if I could give my mother something really special, something I'd bought myself So I stepped inside the shop and admired a dressing table set, which was green cut glass with an ornamental tray(饰托盘) and several matching pieces. I was sure my mother would love it.
The lady must have seen my disappointment when she told me the price. But she had a suggestion which immediately lifted my spirits. She pulled out a large notebook and wrote my name in it and the gift I wanted to buy, and in return I paid her a penny from my pocket money. It meant no sweets that day but I didn’t care. At the age of nine, I’d made my very first lay-by(分期付款)... and felt like a grown up. From then on, every Saturday I dropped in at the shop on schedule and paid a penny, which the lady dutifully recorded in her notebook.

Too excited to wait till Sunday,I excitedly presented the gift to my mother.
参考范文
The day before Mother's Day I paid the last two pence. As the lady wrapped the gift in brown paper and tied it with string, I attentively signed the notebook to say I had completed my lay-by. I thanked her and excitedly left the shop. "Be careful not to drop it," she called after me. Securely, the gift tucked under my arm, I skipped the short distance home.
Too excited to wait till Sunday, I excitedly presented the gift to my mother. I placed the parcel on my mother's lap and I stood by her side, hopping from one foot to the other, as she painstakingly untied every single knot in the string and slowly peeled away the brown paper as if she were unfolding butterfly wings, to reveal the box. My heart was racing. Then, as I bit into my bottom lip, she carefully began to lift the lid. "Do you like it, do you like it " I asked excitedly, "Yes, I love it so much and I'll keep it with me," said my mother. She was delighted, smiling sweetly. The special gift survived many house moves, and it was still sitting on my mother's dressing table.
