What began as a frightening situation was rapidly solved by the fast thinking of one person. Andrea Fuentes, the head coach of USA Artistic Swimming, is known for her successful career — she won four Olympic medals for Spain as an artistic swimmer herself. But after a dangerous incident in June 2022, she has also been praised as a hero.
During the solo free final at the World Aquatics Championships, Anita Alvarez was performing her routine when things took a turn for the worse. While impressing the judges with her routine, she suddenly lost consciousness(意识) and sank to the bottom of the pool.
Fuentes, her coach, looked for help. “I saw that the lifeguards (救生员) were not jumping into the water because they were shocked. I shouted at them from the other side to get into the water immediately!” Fuentes told a Spanish radio program. Growing increasingly concerned, the coach jumped into the water, fully dressed, to rescue Alvarez when medical assistance arrived. Alvarez was then placed on a stretcher and taken away to receive medical care. The team later posted an update(最新报道), saying that the swimmer was feeling much better, with normal vital signs(生命体征), oxygen, and sugar levels. After a careful evaluation, she was considered healthy and went back to the swimming pool.
Almost a year after the incident, the USA Artistic Swimming(艺术游泳) team announced the athletes who make up the senior national team at the 2023 World Championships and Pan American Games(泛美运动会). Not only is Alvarez one of them, but Fuentes remains the head coach. Together, they’ll work to bring home some much-deserved medals and awards. Coach Fuentes states, “I am very excited for this next chapter, and I feel honored as their coach to lead this group of talented swimmers to make Team USA the best team we can be.”
24. Why has Andrea Fuentes been considered a hero
A. She won four Olympic medals.
B. She reacted quickly to the incident.
C. She was head coach of a USA team.
D. She risked her life to save a stranger.
25. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The process of Fuentes’ saving.
B. The ways of medical assistance.
C. The dangers faced by artistic swimmers.
D. The reason why the lifeguards hesitated(犹豫).
26. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Alvarez has left the senior national team.
B. Fuentes’ action has earned her more rewards(奖励).
C. Alvarez won several medals after the recovery.
D. Alvarez’s life has recently returned to normal.
27. Which can best describe Fuentes as a coach
A. Quick-thinking and ambitious. B. Strict and adventurous.
C. Careful and caring. D. Humorous and kind-hearted.

During the lively Paris Olympics, while the spotlight shone on the athletes, a group of unsung heroes worked tirelessly behind the scenes—the Olympic volunteers. This year, out of 300,000 applicants, around 45,000 were chosen as volunteers, with 20 percent coming from nearly 150 countries. These volunteers wore bright green uniforms(制服)to be easily noticed in the purple venues(场馆). They offered help to the audience and media alike, making them an important part of the Olympic experience.
On my first day as a reporter, I met a technical problem with my media system account. Thankfully, Chinese volunteer Guo came to help me out. “I hope to improve my language, communication skills, and problem-solving methods through this event,” said 24-year-old Guo from Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province, who was studying wireless communication at the Paris Institute of Digital Technology. As a former expert swimmer, Guo saw this as her chance to take part in the Olympics, though in a different role. Another Chinese volunteer, Yang, faced challenges in managing her job and volunteer duties. Despite giving up her holidays, she felt great pride in contributing to the event.
One of my most memorable experiences was meeting with a French volunteer. When I needed help to find the visitor center, a young man on a scooter (小型摩托车)appeared, like a sort of “Monkey King riding a cloud”, and offered to take me there. After helping me, he expressed his admiration for the Beijing Olympics and his desire to visit China again.
Volunteers like them were seen everywhere—from bus stops to competition venues— offering directions and helping with a smile. When large crowds left the venues after the events, causing overcrowding, some volunteers sat on high chairs with loudspeakers, providing directions to go outside in both English and French with a smile. These amazing volunteers, truly show the Olympic spirit, making the event and Paris shine even brighter.
28. Why might the volunteers wear bright green uniforms
A. To stand out in the crowd. B. To show love for athletes.
C. To fit in with the venues. D. To stand for their countries
29. What do we know about Guo
A. She found it hard to balance(平衡) her job and volunteer work.
B. She both swam and volunteered in the Paris Olympics.
C. She wanted to improve herself through volunteer work.
D. She wasn't as patient and helpful as the French volunteer.
30. What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A. To doubt the organization of the Paris Olympics.
B. To praise the service of Paris Olympic volunteers.
C. To show the meaning of hosting Olympic Games.
D. To provide a detailed schedule of Olympic events.
31. How is the text mainly developed
A. By listing the benefits of volunteer work.
B. By discussing Olympic events.
C. By comparing different views on Olympics.
D. By sharing personal stories and experiences.

Climate change is speeding up the frequency(频率) and seriousness of extreme weather events in places like the Horn of Africa(非洲之角), where deadly floods and the worst drought(旱灾) hit in tens of years. Besides, traditional weather forecast(预报)models in sub-Saharan Africa often aren’t dependable enough to forecast extreme weather events correctly ahead of time, leaving the areas at risk. Based on the facts, exact and timely forecasts are important to safeguard lives.
Climate scientists are building artificial intelligence(AI)into the traditional weather forecasting method in East Africa to improve the accuracy(准确性) of extreme weather forecasts. By using both physical atmospheric processes in traditional forecasting and AI, researchers develop a first-of-its-kind new modeling way to give more accurate rainfall forecasts.“We start from the traditional forecasts and add the AI model over it to make up for what the traditional forecasts have missed, so that the final forecast results can more accurately match the data that has actually been observed,” explains Shruti Nath, a climate scientist and researcher at the University of Oxford Department of Physics.
According to Shruti Nath, this model, which only requires a notebook computer to run, without the need for expensive supercomputers, gives local meteorological (气象的) organizations an affordable way of making more correct forecasts in an area where there is a shortage of accurate observational data(观测数据). The researchers say the project could change early warning systems in East Africa, making the area get better prepared for the extreme weather caused by climate change.
Traditionally, many forecasting organizations in Africa had not good computational resources(计算的资源). The project is supported by an IT company, which provides funding and computational resources. This approach gives them the ability to use AI to make forecasting at the least computational expense.
The model is now being rolled out in Kenya and Ethiopia. If successful in East Africa, researchers hope to use it in other parts of the world facing similar challenges. More countries are trying to spread the technology as well as build local ownership and trust.
32.What does the author want to stress in the first paragraph
A. The great climate changes caused by human activities.
B. The necessity of using the new weather forecast model.
C. The seriousness of the flood and drought in Africa.
D. Little progress has been made in weather forecasts.
33.How does the new weather forecast model work
A. It needs much less observational data.
B. It uses supercomputers to process data.
C. It depends on AI instead of the former way.
D. It connects AI with the traditional method.
34.What can we say about the new weather forecast model
A. It is low-cost.
B. It runs easily.
C. It doesn't work as wished.
D. It is geographically limited.
35.What can be the most suitable title for the text
A. Climate Change and Its Effects on Africa
B. Uncertainty of Weather Forecast with AI
C. AI Helping Improve Weather Forecast in Sub-Saharan Africa
D. The Challenges Faced by Traditional Weather Forecast Models

第二节(满分15分)

During lunchtime, Emma suggested going to the zoo to feed the animals and her mom agreed.
“We’ll stop by the bakery and pick some bread up. Now hurry and eat and then we'll go. It’s going to be a lovely day. Grandma is coming with us. She'll be here any minute,” Mom said.
Emma ate her lunch and then ran into her room to get her shoes. The problem was that she could only find one of them. She looked under her bed, but all she could see were dirty towels and pants. She moved some of her toys out of the way, but still couldn’t find her shoe. After she’d checked everywhere in her room, she ran into the kitchen. “Mom, I can’t find my shoe. Will you wait while I look for it ” she asked.
Her mom thought about how many times she’d told Emma to clean her room up. She whispered something to Emma’s grandma and then said to Emma, “You will have to stay at home. Your dad and I will take Ryan to the zoo. Grandma will stay here with you.”
“No! Please wait for me. I want to go to the zoo,” Emma cried. “I’m sorry, Emma. I’ve told you a dozen times to clean your room and you ignored me. You can’t find your shoe now. It’s your own mistake for not doing as I asked. You will stay at home.”
Emma ran into her bedroom, crying. Her mom came to the door and said, “Emma, clean that room of yours before I get home. I’ve told grandma not to give you any sweets until you finish the work.” She went out to the car with Ryan and Emma’s dad and then they drove away.
Emma sat on her bed and cried for a long time. And then she wiped her eyes and started to clean her room. It took her two hours to clean up the room. “I did it!” she said proudly. She even found her missing shoe. She ran into the living room. “Grandma! Come and see. I cleaned my room and found my shoe.” Grandma looked at Emma’s room. “If you had kept it this way, you wouldn’t have lost your e and have some sweets now,” she said.

On Losing Weight
Losing weight has gained much popularity, especially among girls who are influenced by the idea that the slimmer they are, the more attractive they become.
However, the side effects of unhealthy weight-loss habits should not be ignored. For one thing, those who lose weight quickly may suffer health problems, like getting ill easily. For another, some students even report having trouble concentrating in class.
For those who are dangerously overweight, it is very important to try to lose weight properly, like having a healthy balanced diet, keeping regular hours and getting plenty of exercise. After all, being healthy is more significant than being slim.
