India’s past is full of rich cultural legacies （遗产）. But for many rural people, especially children, a world of art and culture remains distant because of limited resources and inaccessible opportunities. As a result, even the doors to museums — where artifacts, artworks, and historical objects are displayed for public viewing and learning — feel out of their reach. To handle this, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya （CSMVS）（a museum in Mumbai）started the “Museum on Wheels （MOW）. This creative effort aims to break the barrier of the geographical location and economic factors, and bring the wonders of history, art and culture to the remote areas of India.
“People don’t connect with the museum as a place where they can come, spend time, and enjoy the pieces,” says Krutika Mhatre, who leads the MOW project. “The concept of museums, with a bricked room and a gallery of displayed objects, is old and outdated. It has evolved so much. Most people are not much aware of this. We do not have museums in remote areas, like the countryside. So reaching museums is also a task. With the intention of solving the above issues, the idea of the MOW was generated.
Beginning in 2015, the MOW has two buses that have travelled across the country so far. The first- ever exhibition on wheels happened in Mumbai and the theme of the exhibition changes every six months. “Whenever we decide to change the theme, we speak with different school teachers and educators to understand what would stimulate the children more. If they are learning something in the curriculum, we will display the related knowledge on the bus,” says Krutika.
In the past years, the MOW has hosted exhibitions on Indian traditional games, the history, fossils, and various civilizations, which sources its pieces from the CSMVS and some local artists. “When questioned about the MOW, children are always up on their toes to share their experiences. There is light in their eyes. They are able to recollect what they have seen when the topics are taught in the class, which is in itself an evidence of good work,” Krutika says.

Unlike humans, most insects don’t have brain systems to help them keep a sense of direction. “But they do have a system that allows them to tell what’s bright and what’s dark, and lets them know about the sky so that they can fly smoothly,” Yash Sondhi, a scientist says. If they mess that up, they start falling.
Some theories have suggested that insects fly to light because they are blinded by artificial （人工的）light. Sondhi’s team put this question to the test. First, they hung a downward-facing light bulb（电灯泡）and in another test, they turned the light upward. In the first case, insects flew in an endless circle around the bulb. But when the light was pointed up, the insects often stopped flying and fell to the ground.
What if the light is spread over a wide area The researchers spread a large white sheet（床单）across the treetops and shone light on it. Surprisingly, the insects flew straight through the sheet, flying in the way they would during the day. The team then placed the sheet on the ground and shone light on it, and found all the insects flying over it turned upside down and fell to the ground.
One of the most important things in flying is identifying the upward direction. Flying insects seem to depend on light to do this, keeping the brighter areas overhead and darker settings below them.
“It’s not that insects are just attracted to light. It’s that they are balancing light and dark. But then you get an artificial environment that turns it over,” says Simon Sponberg, a physicist. The use of artificial light has risen quickly over the years, which may keep insects in a tiring circle or send them falling to their death. Along with influencing flying, too much light of this type can affect insects’ ability to find partners, search for food, and protect themselves against other animals.
Losing dark sky areas is a serious problem. Unluckily, the situation is worsened by climate change and land loss. What’s comforting is that humans are changing the game through both personal and collective practices. Rebuilding dark sky areas including parks and communities will be beneficial to animals, plants and humans alike.

A friend of mine, in response to a conversation we were having about the injustices of life, asked me the question, “Who said life was going to be fair, or that it was even meant to be fair ” Her question was a good one. It reminded me of something I was taught as a youngster: life isn’t fair. It’s a disappointment, but it’s absolutely true. One of the mistakes many of us make is that we feel sorry for ourselves, or for others, thinking that life should be fair, or that someday it will be. It’s not and it won’t be.
One of the nice things about surrendering（屈从）to the fact that life isn’t fair is that it keeps us from feeling sorry for ourselves by encouraging us to do the very best we can with what we have. We know it’s not “life’s job” to make everything perfect, it’s our own challenge. Surrendering to this fact also keeps us from feeling sorry for others because we are reminded that everyone is dealt differently; everyone has unique strengths and problems in the process of growing up, facing the reality and making decisions; and everyone has those times that they feel unfairly treated.
The fact that life isn’t fair doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do everything in our power to improve our own lives or the world as a whole. To the contrary, it suggests that we should. When we don’t recognize or admit that life isn’t fair, we tend to feel pity for others and for ourselves. Pity, of course, is a self-defeating emotion that does nothing for anyone, except to make everyone feel worse than they already do. When we do recognize that life isn’t fair, however, we feel enthusiastic for others and for ourselves. And enthusiasm is a heartfelt emotion that conveys loving-kindness to everyone it touches.

As the pace of life continues to increase, we are getting more and more stressed and we are fast losing the art of relaxation. Dear friends,
I’m Li Jin, a student from Chen Guang High School. Today, it is my great privilege to be here to deliver my speech. My topic is Feeling Changes Around, Telling Stories of China Aloud.
What I want to mention first is that more and more people, are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of environmental protection, and they go all out to participate in the campaign of garbage sorting, making the best of the recyclables, avoiding much waste as well as reducing garbage pollution to some extent. What’s more, it is obvious that traditional Chinese culture has gained its popularity home and abroad. We can witness many people are learning Chinese poems, Chinese painting and Chinese history and so on, which will definitely promote the development of traditional Chinese culture in the long run.
As far as I can see, our society as well as our life will surely change for the better. Our culture will definitely attract more foreigners to come to China.
I sincerely hope everyone present can feel the changes around and tell the stories of China a lot by yourself just as I’m doing here.
